Pony Club Day – Sunday 1st January 2017

We very much look forward to welcoming you back to Cheltenham Racecourse on New Year’s Day 2017. For 2017 we have reserved an area on the top floor of marquee M30 for The Pony Club, providing a warm base for the day along with a selection of food and refreshments to purchase. A discounted ticket price to gain entry to the racecourse is also available to all Area 9 Members.

This is a day for the kids, with Characters from ICE AGE making appearances throughout the day in the kids entertainment area, along with other fun activities to keep the little ones amused. For the grown-ups there are seven races scheduled to take place.
The Family Fun Zone is situated in a new location in the tented village where you can look forward to not only meeting Chase and Marshall but Showtime Shane performing on the hour live magic for all the family. There will be face painting, chickens, ducks, rabbits, a dog, pet mice, guinea pigs as well as a duck pond to explore and enjoy! Plus try your hand at milking Mavis, a life-size cow. As well as all of this there will be balloon artists, indoor inflatables, rosette making, colouring-in zone, plaiting a horse mane zone and dressing up as a jockey zone alongside our magic mirror.

Gates open at 10:30am with the first of seven races at 12:40pm and the last at 3:40pm. We will be providing the opportunity for everyone to enjoy a tour of the racecourse providing a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes at Cheltenham Racecourse. The tour will start within marquee M30 at 10.45am and finish within the Family Fun Zone. To ensure we provide the best experience for your members, please could you provide me with the number of people who would like to attend the tour via email Maddie.webster@thejockeyclub.co.uk no later than December 23rd.

The Adult (18+) ticket price will be £20 and this discounted price can only be accessed by buying tickets online at www.cheltenham.co.uk and using discount code NY17PONY. This is limited to 4 per household and Under 18’s will get in for free.
I do hope you can share this offer with your members and let them know the above details, allowing them to purchase the tickets at their own convenience. If you are able to let me know how many members will be attending on the day that would be appreciated.

Yours sincerely,
Maddie Webster
Regional Partnership Coordinator

OPEN INTER-REGIONAL TETRATHLON

The Open Regional Tetrathlon was held at Breckenbrough, Thirsk on 6-7 August.  The Central England teams comprised members from Areas 7, 9 and 12, with the Area 9 representatives being:

John Church (OBH) – Boys’ captain
Jack Church (OBH)
Harry Stevens (VWH)

Alice Harper (Ledbury) – Girls’ captain – Red team
Ellie Bliss (Cotswold) – Red team
Phillippa Hall (VWH) – Red team
Sasha Green (Beaufort) – Blue team
Jess Telford (Beaufort) – Blue team

After the first day of competition (shoot and swim), held in the evocative setting of Ampleforth College and Abbey, the Central Boys were lying 6th, with the 2 Central Girls teams placed 6th and 8th.  However, it was clear that the following day’s cross-country course would be a huge test and might easily affect the final placings.

And so it proved.  With only some 20% of riders achieving a 1400 score, maximum riding marks from John and Jack Church proved crucial, along with a strong run from Harry Stevens, and moved the Central team up to 3rd place, behind Southern England and the Republic of Ireland team.

In the girls’ competition, The Central Red team held 6th place, and the Blue team 8th after the shoot and swim, with Alice Harper coming 2nd in the shoot, and Ellie Bliss 5th.  However, the placings changed dramatically after the ride and run, again with clear rounds cross-country making a difference.  Alice Harper obliged with a great clear round that helped the Central Reds finish in 5th place.  Unfortunately, even with a clear round from Sasha Green, the Blue team picked up injuries on the ride that stopped two of their team running, and so slipped back to 11th.

In sum, a fantastic weekend’s competition in a very friendly environment, hosts who could not have been more accommodating and a very challenging competition in every phase.  And great results from Central England, both as teams and individuals.

A-Test to be offered 29 December 2016

We have arranged for ‘A’ Test Riding Training on 29th December from

10.00 – 12.00 at Rectory Farm, the coach will be Carole Broad FBHS.

This is for older members who have a serious intention of working towards taking the ‘A’ Riding Test, members must bring a suitable horse to ride and be prepared to swap horses.

Carole is an extremely experienced coach and assesses at all BHS exams up to Fellowship and PC ‘A’ Test, this is an excellent opportunity to get a feel for what is required for PC ‘A’ Riding and guidance of what you need to work on before taking the test

The cost for the 2 hours training will be £40, if this proves to be popular we will arrange more training sessions in the future.

If you would like to attend please email  julie@jcrew.plus.com

B+ Test – 9 Aug 2016

B+ Test Syllabus

B+_Nomination

The date for the ‘B+’ Test is fast approaching and although I have been
told there are a couple of members who would like to do it I have not
had any nomination forms yet.

I do need to have entries for tests at least 2 weeks before the date so
that I can inform assessors if they are not needed.

Please note the ‘B+’ Test is ‘riding’ and ‘riding theory’ only and is
done in a morning, I have attached the ‘B+’ syllabus and nomination form
to this email.

Please contact Julie Crewe.
