2016 Area 9 – Horse Trials

Area 9 has had to make a change of dates for the Area Horse Trials . The Open are now going to have to run on the weekend of the 2nd /3rd July as a Pony Club section within the BE Chepstow Horse Trials and not now at Upton House. This change has been brought about due to BE moving their Festival of the Youth Under 18 to Frickley Park at the end of July, from Weston Park in Oct and hence too close for many to run at Dauntsey .

We realise that this is going to collide with the Area Tet at Gadbury but this is out of our hands . Any competitors wanting to compete at both disciplines will be given the opportunity to run in another Area Tet competition to ensure of a chance to qualify to the champs. We have yet to be informed which day they will run the Open PC Class, as Chepstow are still doing there own schedule.

The Intermediates and Novice will run as arranged on Sat 23rd July at Dauntsey run by the Beaufort. The 70cms and 80 cms will run at Rabson Sunday 7th Aug run by the VWH Hunt.

This year the 80cms is not a Regional Qualifier but the 80cms SJ at the Area’s will be as will the Grassroots Dressage test which will be held at the Area Dressage. Regional Championships will be held between Areas 7, 9,10 and 18. Venue to be announced.

>Cheltenham Races – Pony Club Day – 1 January 2016

Pony Club Day – Friday 1st January 2016
We very much look forward to welcoming you back to Cheltenham Racecourse on New Year’s Day 2016. Once again we have reserved an area of the Centaur Balcony exclusively for The Pony Club, providing a warm base for the day along with a selection of food and refreshments to purchase. A discounted ticket price to gain entry to the racecourse is also available to all Area 9 Members.
The Adult (18+) ticket price will be £20 and this discounted price can only be accessed by buying tickets online at and using discount code NY16PONY. This is limited to 4 per household and Under 18’s will get in for free.
Gates open at 10:30am with the first of seven races at 12:10pm and the last at 3:40pm. This year, we will be providing the opportunity for everyone to enjoy a tour of the racecourse with a member of the Racing to School team from BHEST, a tour for which will provide everyone with a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes at Cheltenham Racecourse. The tour will start by the Christmas tree within The Hall of Fame at 10.45am and finish within the Centaur Balcony facility where every child will be gifted an official Cheltenham stress horse. To ensure we provide the best experience for your members, please could you provide me with the number of people who would like to attend the tour via email no later than 18th December.
I do hope you can share this offer with your members and let them know the above details, allowing them to purchase the tickets at their own convenience. If you are able to let me know how many members will be attending on the day that would be appreciated.
Yours sincerely,
Maddie Webster
Regional Sponsorship Coordinator

>Tetrathlon Training Rally Success

Tet Rally 1 Tet Rally 2

A joint VWH/OBH Tetrathlon Rally was held at Wickstead Equestrian Centre and Highworth on Monday 26th October.  The event was a great success, with 14 budding and returning Tetrathletes from U-8 to Mini attending and with the instructors helped by current, experienced Tetrathletes giving first-hand accounts to the newcomers.  The participants enjoyed 2 hours of cross-country riding, and learning about gates and slip rails, followed by an hour each of running, shooting and swimming.  All interspersed with doughnuts and drinks!  Everyone went home tired and happy, having had an enjoyable Tetrathlon taster.  Pictures of the participants are enclosed.
