Dengie Dressage Championships 2015

Dengie Dressage Championships April 4th 2015

Two Beaufort members qualified for the Dengie Dressage Championships which was held at Warwickshire College of Agriculture at Moreton Morrell on Easter Saturday. Dengie  and the Pony Club worked together to make this a special day for the competitors, there were flower pots down the drive and lots of banners and more pots around the arenas. The warm up was rather busy and the atmosphere was definitely a step up from the Area Competition. Gareth Hughes was there to offer advice and to lead a question and answer session for the competitors. My favourite answer of his was to the question ‘What do you look for when you buy a horse’ – he replied that the horse had to make him smile when he got on it as unless that was the case all the hours he has to spend training are too much like hard work.

Claudia Wallis rode in the Novice Championships on Greybrook Larry. They produced a competitive test but it wasn’t their day to show the best they can do, still a very good score of 68% but in a tightly contested class they were just squeezed down to 11th place so missed out on a rosette.

Best moment for Claudia was picking up the qualifier’s plaque (see photo) and getting a decent score.

Most challenging moment was coming to terms with the fact that missing the centre line on one of the movements cost her a placing

Laura Warren also rode a decent test (with a few extra movements – see worst moment below) on R Boycie to gain a score of 68% and 7th place in her section of the Open class.

Best Moment : Boycie enjoyed getting tacked up and smart for the prize giving as it made him feel  very important. It was also nice that Gareth Hughes was presenting the rosettes as he was really lovely.
Worst moment: without realising I leg yielded the wrong way and continued for four more movements until I realised, the judge hadn’t noticed. It then took a fairly lengthly conversation to realise where I’d gone wrong. This was a shame as it disrupted Boycie and we didn’t really get back into it which affected our mark. I wont make that mistake again!

So a good day out for the Beaufort members – well done Claudia, Brook, Laura and Boycie.
