4 Cheshire Hunt South Tetrathletes competed at the National Championships held at Hartpury College this summer.  They were Megan Barrow, Sara Ashworth, Molly Broster and Jamie Thomas.  Megan and Sara were in the Open and Jamie and Molly in the Intermediate.  Sara ended up a credible 14th out of 91 competitors in her class and Jamie 12th (including Irish) and 9th Nationally.  Before the Championships Molly’s horse went lame,  fortunately a replacement was found, so at least she could compete, but with practically no practice the challenging Intermediate cross country  course at Hartpury was a step too far for them.  Jamie is definitely keeping the tradition going of extraordinary boy Cheshire Hunt South Tetrathletes following Guy Hinnegan, Chris Woodward and Harry Ashworth.  I am sure we are going to be hearing a lot more about him.

We all had a fantastic time with the usual amount of partying taking place alongside the competition!  We wont mention who escaped through the driver’s door window when supposedly getting ready for bed!  Harry made a guest appearance for the party on Saturday night with some dubious photos appearing on facebook of him dressed as a woman!

We are now back into winter triathlons with 13 CHS tetrathletes competing at the North Shrops Pony Club Triathlon last Sunday.  Wrekin College is the perfect place to put on a triathlon and the weather was great!  Of the 13 competing, 7 came either 1st or 2nd in their classes.  These were Jamie Thomas 2nd in the Junior Boys, Jessica Thomas 1st Junior girls, Ruari McBennett 2nd in the 10/11yr old minimus boys, Freddie Ashworth 1st in the 9/10yr old minimus boys, Kate Samuel 2nd in the 10/11yr old minimus girls, Orla Stott 2nd in the 9/10yr old minimus girls and Simon Ashworth 2nd in the Wrinklie mens!!  However, by far the biggest achievement of the day was

Many many congratulations Orla, this is an amazing achievement.

We all had a great day with lots and lots of memorable moments, which is what makes Tetrathlon such a lovely sport to be involved in.

Want to improve your results in Tetrathlon/Pentathlon?

Here is a fantastic opportunity for up and coming tetrathletes to improve their scores.  We are extremely lucky to be able to use the Chester Academy coaches and I hope everyone will make use of this great opportunity.  If we show support and enthusiasm I am sure this could be the beginning of a long and happy relationship with Chester Academy.

Any queries.  Ring Linda on 07974 000507 or woodworthgreen@btinternet.com

Training Info

Warwick and Area Tetrathlons

Well what contrasting weekends.  Luckily, the right way round!  23, yes, twenty three Cheshire Hunt South Tetrathletes plus their families descended upon the Warwick Tetrathlon on the sun drenched weekend of 9th/10th July, with 200 competitors it is always a serious competition.  Then we had 16 competitors taking part in the horrendous conditions last weekend at the Area 5 and Cheshire Hunt South Tetrathlon.  I think Sunday, the day we were out all day riding and running, will have to go down as the worst day of the summer.

However, the weather didn’t change any results, as on both weekends CHS dominated the prize givings.  On both weekends Sara Ashworth won the Open Girls class, Ruari McBennett won the Minimus boys classes with Freddie Ashworth 2nd both weekends and Tom Exley 3rd both weekends, and William Rayner won the pre mini boys classes.  Not surprisingly our Minimus boys team won at the Warwick which included a new recruit in Charles Lanni .  Tom, Charles and William were all within a second of each other on the run.  The other team to win at the Warwick was our tiddlers girls team of Camilla Broster, Keeva Stott, Tamzin McBennett and Immy Okell.  Keeva, Immy and Tamzin managed a one, two , three in this class as well.

The most important thing here is a mammoth CONGRATULATIONS to all the parents for making such a massive effort in bringing the children, all their kit, in some cases 2/3 ponies plus camping kit and food for a fantastic weekend of fun.  There will DEFINITELY be more outings for the camping equipment!!

At our Area Competition there were 13 teams and our teams came 1st, 2nd and 3rd!!!!!

Jamie Thomas, Jessica Thomas Ruari McBennett & Tom Exley came an incredible 1st

Sara Ashworth, Freddie Ashworth, Megan Barrow & Molly Broster came 2nd

Jessica Smith, Kate Samuel, William Rayner & Max Smith came 3rd

Other 1st placings went to Jamie Thomas in the Intermediate Boys, Jessica Thomas in the Junior girls and Tamzin McBennet in the Pre mini girls.

Sara, Megan, Jamie and Molly all qualified for Hartpury as hoped for.

Everyone now needs to keep up the training over the summer holidays ready to repeat our recent performances at the Flint and Denbigh Tetrathlon on 16th/17th Sept and at the Area 5 Minimus and Junior Championships on 1st/2nd Oct.

The three CHS girls of Sara Ashworth, Jessica Thomas and Molly Broster were the best 3 girls in the Wales and Borders team that came 3rd at the Junior Regional Tetrathlon competition and Jamie Thomas was the best boy in the boys team that came 2nd.

Teams from Scotland, Northern Ireland and all over England descended on Milton Keynes Equestrian Centre on the weekend of 11th/12th June for a weekend of great competition and fun.  The teams all started out well but it was the cross country that sorted everyone out and our boys team climbed from 5th to 2nd with four good rounds.  Clear rounds were very scarce with a skinny barrel causing most of the trouble.

Saturday night saw its usual amount of partying with the ‘Talent Contest’ being well and truly won by the Northern England Team who had managed to somehow persuade their boys to dress up in leggings, pink socks and dance around with pom poms!!!  Luckily the Wales and Borders team weren’t quite the worst, but if Pickle (the dog) had jumped the welsh flag as intended, who knows, we might have done even better!!

Individually, Sara came 4th, Jessica 10th and Molly 14th , there were 75 in their class so these positions are tremendous.  Jamie came 4th in the boys class.

A special mention must go to Jessica Thomas who at a pony club age of 10 has four more years left in this competition!  She was up at 5am, went to bed after 11pm, was always smiling and laughing and performed brilliantly.  Keep it up Jessica.

All the Cheshire Hunt South Tetrathletes have been very busy recently.

Jamie Thomas came individually a fantastic 3rd at the Home International Junior Tetrathlon Competition held at Windsor Horse Show.  The best from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland were there so to come 3rd was brilliant.

Jamie has also been picked for the Wales and Borders Boys Junior team for the Junior Regional Competition to be held at Milton Keynes.  After his performance at Windsor the pressure will be on him to repeat his success!

Sara Ashworth, Molly Broster and Jessica Thomas (Pony club age 10!) have all been picked for the Wales and Borders Girls A Team for Milton Keynes.  So that is three CHS tetrathletes in the Welsh Team of five, go CHS!!  We wish them all the luck for 11th/12th June.

Area 5 had a massive total entry of 66 children for the Northop One Day Tetrathlon held on Saturday 14th May which is aimed at the younger/ less experienced tetrathletes.  There were 18 CHS tetrathletes competing who all dominated the prize giving.  A special mention must go to Mia Brown who was a ‘first timer’ and who came a very close 7th in her class so went home without a rosette.  Well done Mia, you did brilliantly.  We had four 1st s from Keeva Stott, Ruari McBennet, Mimi Ashworth and Orla Stott.  Also our team of Ruari McBennet, Tom Exley, Tamzin McBennet and Alice Okell won as well.  So another great day out for CHS Tetrathletes.

The following week we had 10 tetrathletes schooling around the Kelsall 2ft 6 cross country course with David Llewellyn boosting their confidence to go clear cross country at the Area 5 Tetrathlon held at Kelsall on 16th/17th July.

With training sessions in the pipeline with former British Team member and now CHS pony club Dad, Joe Pugh, we are hoping to be dominant at the Area in all the classes!!

For those of you who fancy having a ‘go’ at tetrathlon, winter triathlons are a good place to start.  There are lots of classes to choose from including beginners.  Its all very low key and a good day out.  For those parents who are encouraging their offspring to have a go, there are also classes for the mums and Dads, aptly named ‘slightly creased’ classes for the mums  and ’wrinkly’ classes for the Dads, so you can have a go with them!!!! (oxygen masks at the end are not provided)!!
