Welcome

Welcome to the Duke of Buccleuch’s

Hunt Branch of the Pony Club

The Duke of Buccleuch’s Hunt Branch of the pony club was established in 1931 by Eildon Watherston from Menslaws she was a huge Equestrian character in the Borders and became the pony clubs first DC, she taught good ‘old fashioned’ horsemanship. The Duke of Buccleuch’s Branch is a one of the oldest in the whole of the UK, 2011 will see our 80th anniversary which is very exciting and I am sure it won’t be passed by without some celebrations!

We have around 160 members ranging in age from 4 to 25 years; we are part of area 19.  Our pony club members are very active in all spheres, and we are lucky to have some very successful past and present members who have enjoyed national success.  Many members are keen supporters of the local hunt.  We pride ourselves on our strong competitive side while still keeping the BALANCE with FUN and EDUCATION for all members.Training is offered for all levels of Pony Club Proficiency Tests and BHS Riding and Road Safety Certificate. There are mini badges for the younger members.

Our annual Summer Camps are well attended and great fun.  Juniors go to the Pavillion at Melrose and Seniors to Carterhaugh Bowhill. We also cater for the little ones with a mini camp at Holydean, Melrose.
