Amalia Kinsella and Sammy have just started competing and did very well in Northampton Pony Club Derby on 9th October, coming second in the 1′9 and 2′ classes. They were 3rd in the Reasby Lodge 2′ class. At Vale View on 26th November they came 6th in the 2′ class with two clear rounds.

Wow! What an honour to ride as part of the winning Fernie show jumping team at Burghley Horse Trials 2011. Early Thursday morning we set out with horses loaded, plaited up and looking smart, not knowing what was ahead of us. Once we arrived at Burghley the team met up (Annie Frankham, Ellie Saunders Watson, Annie Keir and me) to walk the course at 8.30 am with Angus Smales who instructed us on how to ride the course. It was plenty big enough – and that was only the first round. We then had time to watch a few jump as we didn’t jump until 10.18. When we got up to the collecting ring there were only two teams clear. Angus very kindly worked us in and helped each of us to try to keep a cool head.
I was first to jump and as I cantered into the enormous ring I noticed that the grand-stands were packed. I don’t think I breathed all the way round the course until I cleared the last fence and the crowd cheered. Annie Frankham was next to jump but the atmosphere got to her pony and unfortunately she had a pole down. So the pressure was on for Ellie and Annie Keir. Ellie had a foot-perfect round so we were all hopeful by this point but still not knowing what would happen for Annie K on her tiny pony and a huge track.
Annie had so much pressure which she coped with very well to jump another foot perfect round meaning that we were one of only five teams to go through to the jump-off from forty teams. Eventually 4.15 came and we learnt our jump-off course. Once again Angus did a very good job of keeping us relaxed. The jump-off course looked huge. As I cantered into the ring there were even more people watching. My young horse just loved showing off and he jumped the first clear jump-off round. Annie F again had a very unfortunate pole but was happy with her horse’s performance. Ellie and Annie K both went clear and when we heard the screams from our parents and saw Angus jumping up and down cheering we know WE were the champions.
The best part of the whole day was the presentation as we got to meet Mark Todd! We then did a lap of honour which I may say was rather out of control.
I still don’t think it has completely sunk in, but we would like to say a huge Thank You to Mrs Hutchinson for giving us this opportunity. And also to Angus for all his help.
WELL DONE TEAM FERNIE!!!

Trail Blazers Championships at Stoneleigh, 22nd July 2011
On Friday 22nd July, Tilly Toone, Emily Stout and Clarissa Ingram went to the Trailblazers Championships at Stoneleigh. A big national show which included competitors from Devon, Cornwall, Kent, Wales, Yorkshire, Scotland and even the Isle of Wight!!. Tilly was riding Badger who qualified in the 75cm and the 85cm, Emily was riding Rebel who qualified in the 75cm and Clarissa was riding Lizzy who qualified in the 75cm and the 85cm. Throughout the year they had qualified for the first round, the second round then Stoneleigh. You had to go double clear in the first round and placed in the second.
On the first day, the practice day, they did single phase jumping. Tilly went clear and won, Emily got 4 faults in the first phase so couldn’t continue to the second phase. Clarissa also got 4 faults in the first phase as well.
On the Saturday Emily went clear and unfortunately clipped a diamond plank in the jump off. Tilly went clear in 75cm but rolled a pole in the jump off.
On Sunday because Tilly and Emily both went clear the day before, they got through to the Championships finals. But instead of the jumps being 75cm they were actually 90cm with massive oxers and a 4ft water tray!! Emily just knocked the back pole off an oxer but was still really pleased with her 6 year old pony, Rebel.
All three of them really enjoyed being at Stoneleigh and camped over night, the ponies were stabled. Everyone really enjoyed themselves and will hope to appear at more events.
