Day Camp

DAY CAMP 2012

WILL BE HELD

 24th JULY TO 28th JULY 2012

For those who don’t know what day camp involves, I will tell you a little about it.

We hold it at Burcott Riding School in Wells, Somerset. They have a cross-country course with the jumps being no bigger than 2’6” which makes it suitable for less confident children (although all are welcome). We also set up a dressage arena and a show jumping arena.

Parents and children attend daily from 10am to 4pm.

For the parents it’s a sociable event where you get to watch your children while meeting people and possibly making friends for life.

For the children it gives them a chance to have fun while learning and gives them confidence to go into the summer events.

The children get to have a go at 4 disciplines. These are: dressage, show jumping, cross-country and gymkhana games. They also learn how to look after their ponies and other dismounted activities. We also have some fun events arranged. For example, a treasure hunt, sometimes a hack to the local park (which we treat as an organised adventure), and sometimes we arrange demonstrations by outsiders.

They start the day with inspection in which they get marked on their own appearance, their ponies appearance and their tack. This teaches them how to improve throughout the week on turning out themselves and their pony. Each day they ride for 4 hours (depending on weather and their riding ability). The first two days of camp are the same. However, on Thursday they each have a test which they have been prepared for. Friday afternoons they all do gymkhana games. Saturday we finish with a One Day Event suited to their ability with prizes for all at the end.

This whole experience gives the children confidence and fulfilment.

We have to have all deposits of £50 no later than 1st July. This year we will not be accepting anyone after this date.
