JUNIOR AREA SJ 2011
Junior Area Show Jumping Report Wincanton 2011
Mendip sent a junior team to Wincanton on 24th August for the area show jumping.
The team of Isobel Twiggs, Emma Clothier, Billie Lockyear, Lucy Osborne and individual Charlie Padfield had a great day and the parents were particularly pleased that the sun was shining!
Charlie Padfield had a bit of a surprise when her pony slipped over in the collecting ring and they both ended up sitting on the floor. She did really well to go round with only 4 faults.
Lucy, Billie, Emma and Isobel all had clear rounds in the first round and the pressure mounted. Lucy set off first and put in the second fastest round of the whole day but learned an important lesson when she dropped a pole at fence 8 and that was 4 faults. Isobel went next and gave her new pony an excellent ride to go clear. Then Billie’s pony Hewie took a dislike to a spooky fence (that also had many others stumped) but eventually got him over, collecting 12 faults on the way. (She is now going home to practice jumping through fire!) Emma went next on Rumba who (thanks to a good deal of hard work on Emma’s part) got another steady clear.
Eventually it was only Emma who rode in the third round and she managed to coax yet another clear round out of Rumba over some fairly meaty fences…brilliant but only in his own time!
Great camaraderie and great fun… bring on next year as most will still be eligible to be juniors in 2012.
Well done girls and ponies and thank you to Mandie for giving up most of her day to walk course/encourage/cajole as appropriate and to the most welcome Dimaline and Phillips support teams!

AREA SJ 2011
Area show jumping took place at Newbury showground on Thursday 28th July. One novice team, Yasmin Phillips, Kayla Davey, Aimee Knight and Gemma Gurvidi made a promising start in round one with Yas and Gemma finishing with 4 faults each and Kayla and Aimee with fantastic clear rounds. Round two didn’t go quite to plan with Yas notching up 12 faults, Kayla having an unlucky pole leaving her on 4, Aimees pony had never seen anything quite as exciting and after the fab clear in the first round ended on 20 faults. Gemma and her pony went really well until the last 3 fences where they unfortunately knocked 2 of them. So final scores Yasmin 16 faults, Kayla 4, Aimee 20 and Gemma 12. No rosettes but well done to all of them.
Katie Dimaline was our only representative in the intermediate class . A full up brightly coloured course including parrot’s, trains and some huge spreads. Katie and Sambucca rode a lovely clear and went into the next round with 0. A very unlucky pole at the white spread left them on 4 faults overall, a great result for their first time at this level.
Lizzie Provenzano, our only open entry rode a brilliant first round with just one down, A delay for medical attention to another competitor meant a slight wait but eventually Lizzie got to do her second round and once again rode brilliantly finishing on 4 faults with 1 time penalty. Considering there was only one double clear in the whole class finishing up on 9 faults for the 2 rounds was a good result..
Many thanks to all the parents and grandparents who made the journey and a massive thanks to Claire Loney for all the teaching and help on the day and throughout the year.
