OBH Chilterns branch was established in 1968 when the Old Berkeley Hunt West was split into three new branches. The branch draws its membership from those living or keeping their ponies within an approximate triangle between Amersham, Hemel Hempstead and Tring. We are part of Pony Club Area 12, the Northern Home Counties, which covers the whole of Buckinghamshire as well as parts of Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Middlesex.
We have members aged from 5 to 25 years old. As a member of our club you will have the opportunity to study for and take tests which enable you to learn progressively about riding and horse and pony care. The tests are taken at recommended ages and are taken with certain objectives in mind. Details of the tests can be found on the Main Pony Club web pages.
We aim to provide a full programme of activities throughout the year, including both competitive and non-competitive activities.
The highlight however is Pony Club Camp which we have held at Bellingdon End Farm since 1972. There is a 4 day Mini Camp for 5 to 7 year olds, with the 8 to 10 year olds coming to camp daily. Main Camp is open to members 10 years old and over, with a separate three day senior camp offered to the older members.
Training is provided in the form of Rallies and squad training sessions. These will normally take place at our Pony Club Field which is situated at Bellingdon End Farm in Bellingdon. During the winter months indoor rallies are held at Milesfield and Affricks Farms. In addition we will usually provide a Stable Management lesson in each school half term and holiday. These rallies and training sessions are a very important part of belonging to the Pony Club and members must be aware that they need to attend at least three rallies in order to be eligible for Area teams.
As part of our contribution to the Pony Club we run five Open Shows each year. The first of these is our Tetrathlon and Hunter Trials held at the end of April each year. This has become one of the highlights of the Pony Club Tetrathlon calendar attracting entrants from all over the South East of England. We hold shows for under 12’s, Show Jumping Shows and a Derby show.
During April to June we run Club Nights at the Pony Club Field where you will have the opportunity to take part in Dressage practice and clear round jumping.
The Pony Club has strong links with hunting and you are welcome to join meets of our local hunt The Kimblewick Hunt. Our Hunting Co-ordinator will provide you with details and organise an escort for you.
