PONY CLUB MOUNTED GAMES TEAMS
(PRINCE PHILIP CUP)
There are two age groups:
Seniors Riders must be 14 and under on 1st January
Juniors Riders must be 10 and under on 1st January
Ponies must be 14.2 and under.
OBH North were invited to a display at Olympia as part of a presentation by the FEI to Prince Philip on his retirement, and also took part and loaned their ponies to famous show jumpers in the Show Jumpers Mounted Games competition at Olympia.
Mounted Games gives children the opportunity to compete in teams at a much younger age than the other disciplines, it gives children boundless confidence and a secure seat, as well as great team spirit. Although the top riders are extremely fast and proficient, the majority of teams competing are much slower.
Past members of our branch have had the opportunity compete at prestigious competitions, an opportunity not often offered to the other disciplines. Richard Beavis was selected to ride for Great Britain in Canada. Ex. OBH North member Sarah Hern competed at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in the England team and HOYS in the Prince Philip Cup. Ex member Lisa Keys, who is now a Pony Club instructor and Eventer, says she owes her stickability to doing games. Ben Thornton, who started his games career at the age of 6 training in a field at North Hill Farm, was selected to ride for England in 2007 at the European Mounted Games Championships and was part of the winning team. Current senior team member Meg Ridler was selected for the winning MGA European under 14s team.
In 2008 Amber Williams was selected to ride in the winning England Team at the DAKS Pony Club Mounted Games Competition at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. In 2010 Amber rode for the GB Pony Club Mounted Games Team.
Past and present Prince Philip riders are always seen in the ribbons at show jumping and eventing.
