Road Rider Test

In view of our very busy roads we feel this is an essential part of our members’ training and strongly advise that all children should attain the Road Rider Test.

This is for children aged 12 and over, working at C Test level and above. It involves 3 sections: theory, tack and turn out and a simulated route test.

Training consists of theory sessions and practical ‘off road’ sessions to hone road riding skills safely.

What is the Road Rider Test?

Road safety and awareness are essential for children riding on today’s roads and the Pony Club recognises this. They recommend that all Pony Club members undertake this training. The RA PC runs courses each summer. Please contact Jules Ursell for more details. Juliet.grieve@tpoll.com

The Road Rider test is split into three age related parts.

The Pony Club Road Rider Mini Achievement Badge (E/D Test)
The Pony Club Road Rider Achievement Badge (D+/C Test)
The Pony Club Road Rider Test (C+/B Test)
  • The Pony Club Road Rider Mini Achievement Badge (E/D Test)
  • The Pony Club Road Rider Achievement Badge (D+/C Test)
  • The Pony Club Road Rider Test (C+/B Test)

The Road Rider Mini Achievement Badge – Prerequisite to D Test
Recognises riders who can control their pony, are aware of what is behind them, can recognise simple signs and understand the principles of being safe, being seen.

The Road Rider Achievement Badge
Recognises riders who know how to dress appropriately, understand being safe, being seen, recognise common road signs and understand amber traffic lights and can ride a simulated practical test including observation, road positioning and signals. It is expected that the training will take approximately 5 hours to complete.

The Road Rider Test
Recognises riders who can show that they ride with courtesy and responsibility, are aware of and obey the law, the Highway Code and The Pony Club Road Rider book. The test comprises three parts, theory, tack and turnout and a practical ridden. Candidates must be over 12 years and have their C Test. Candidates will have already taken the Achievement badge.
