Well done to Kate Jackson and Pembridge Dym Sharydd (Autumn) doing their first BD event on the 1st April. The weeks of learning tests and hours of cleaning certainly paid off when they won their first test with a score of 68.75%. Kate came out her of second test in tears saying how bad it had gone, however later finding out she had also won that class with a percentage of 72.08% she soon felt silly! This also qualified them for the Area Festival at Arena UK in summer, bring it on! With Anna and Tracy also winning both their classes, it was definately team Tracy’s day!:D

Area Quiz

On Monday 13th Feb 4 members of our club travelled to Ashover Parish Hall, Ashover Derbyshire for the Area Quiz,  there were 11 teams taking part each team was made up of 4 members, 1 team member had to be under 12 years, 1 team member under 14 years, 1 member under 16 years and 1 member under 21, our team was Sinead Bramhill (under 12) Katie Willerton (under 14) Amber Major (under 16) Alice McGrath (under 21) This is the first time we have had entered a team in this competition and the team were a credit to the club coming 3rd, what a result for them, we are really proud of you, well done girls.

The following is a report on the quiz

Hi this is a picture of all four of us and our team mascot, Buttons the Pony, outside Ashover Parish hall.
After driving up hill and over dale, past many sheep fields and down roads thinking if we meet something the other way we have nowhere to go, we arrived at Ashover hall, Chesterfield.
The team was made up of Alice McGrath , Katie Willerton, Sinead Bramhill, and Amber Major, not forgetting the team Mascot Buttons the Pony, who looked very smart in his PC jumper and tie.
The quiz started just after one o’clock with Christine Thompson as quiz master, and was well organised by the High Peak Branch (who make amazing cakes). The first round was all about the pony club, followed by rounds on, Olympics, Paralympics, Know your horse, Foot ailment and shoeing, practical round of a difficult remembrance game, of which Katie and Sinead excelled at, and lastly a picture round. The Team finished 3rd and had a great day not  a bad result for our first go at the Area Quiz. Many thanks to Alice for taking all of the team it was greatly appreciated and to Gaynor Major who came for support.
Hopefully next year we will have more time to fit in revision as the other teams had, and to take another team or perhaps three???
The End.

Pony Club Novice Eventing Championships 2011 – Georgia Harness and Burgundy Jack the Lad.

After a three hour drive down to Cheshire, due to a crash on the motorway, we arrived at 8pm. When we finally unloaded Jack, it was dark and chucking it down with rain, typical. Although, it was dark and bad whether, Jack seemed to settle, fine in his temporary cosy stable. On the Saturday morning, I took Jack out for a ride around the ‘farm track’ to stretch his legs, because I wasn’t due to do my dressage until 4.30pm. When I got back on Jack for dressage later on that day, it had surprisingly brightened up, which put me and Jack in a good mood. He was warming up brilliantly, until the hail decided to come 5 minutes before we were due to perform our dressage test. But, surprisingly enough, once we got into the ring, we went alot better than expected. Jack seemed to just accept the fact that the  weather wasn’t going to change. We ended up with a score of 33.2,  The next day was another miserable, wet day, right from the beginning. It was an early start, 8.30am was my showjumping time, but of course Jack is a grey and loves to get as dirty as possible. Warming up for the showjumping, it was hailing once again, but it didn’t seem to affect our performance. We ended up with a unlucky 4 faults, after we got too close to a fence, and it just rolled off. After the showjumping I was  with a score of 37.2. When it came to the last and best phase, cross country, the hail and the rain had  stopped and it brightened up. Although the course was challenging and technical, right from the start, it made no difference to me and Jack. Right from start to finish, Jack was constant and flowing, we loved every minute of it. After the cross country, with a clear round and no time penalties, we finalised on a score of 37.2, which left us in 14th place. Throughout my weekend at the pony club novice eventing championships, I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. I was so pleased and proud of my Burgundy Jack the Lad.

Byrds Dressage.

In May Alice was selected to represent Northern BYRDS for one of the England teams at the Home International Rowallan, Scotland 26-27th July. After a 6 hour journey through some beautiful countryside, we arrived at Rowallan, a really impressive competition centre over looking the Isle of Arran.

There were 28 teams from the 4 home nations and Southern Ireland.

Proudly sporting the St Georges cross on her jacket and on Jaffa’s saddle cloth, even england quarter markers, they executed 2 accurate, highly scoring novice tests. The competition takes place over two days and Alice was lying in 1st place of the Novice Young Riders at the end of the first day. With only a slight hiccup of nearly forgetting to stop at X on the first centre line and handbreaking at G, Alice again finished in first place and was awarded Novice Young Rider Champion 2011 at the huge awards presentation at the end of the day, receiving a sash and rosette. Her team was placed 5th

Grace triumphs in Dressage at Advanced and Prix St George!

Grace Webster recently culminated a year spent at the Moody sisters Dressage yard by taking her horse Jack, who she also rides at Pony Club, up to some of the highest levels in Dressage and winning an Advanced competition on a score of 70% and also gaining 63% in her Prix St George. This is the product of much hard work over the last year by Grace (and Jack), who now have the rest of the summer to look forward to before heading to Manchester University to study Medicine.

Eland Lodge BE

Well Done to Anna Sutton and Louis for finishing second at their latest BE Novice event, held at Eland lodge which is their favourite venue having won the event last year. They came away with a Dressage score of 29, putting them well in contention, then with just one pole in the Show jumping and a fast clear Cross-country round they ended up in second place, continuing their row of success.

Port Royal Showjumping

Well Done to Becky Anderson, Joe Dowse and Daniel Richardson who all competed at Port Royal on Sunday, 29th May. Becky rode in the BSJA 90cm and 1m classes, gaining a clear round in the first and then four faults in her next class, Joe had a very unlucky four faults in the first round of the 85cm, and then produced a double clear in the 90cm but was just out of the rosettes, and Daniel had a couple of poles in the BSJA 1m class and then had a double clear in the 1m10 to be placed 2nd.

Bishop Burton Horse Trials

Congratulations to Anna Sutton, Molly Hunter and Georgia Harness who all competed at Bishop Burton Horse Trials. Anna and Salvador were in the Novice class on the Saturday with a very early start! They produced a brilliant Dressage of 30.5, and after a quick dash around the Cross Country course went on to get a clear round in the Showjumping phase and sailed round a very testing Cross Country course effortlessly with just a few time penalties. This put them in 4th place overall in their section, setting them up well for the Novice Regional Finals at Catton Horse Trials later in June.
