26/8/14 What a week – 1000 miles; 20 hours of driving; I could do a guide to the best bacon sandwiches available at the Championships!  I have watched some talented riding from our members all on beautifully turned out horses and ponies – horses and riders a credit to the South Durham Branch.  The results speak for themselves with rosettes awarded from each of the three Championships (see the TAB). A huge congratulations to you all… your hard work has paid off, not least of all by your parents who between them probably walked the length of the UK between arenas, stables, courses, camp sites etc….  It was worth it not only for the prizes but the team spirit and general great fun to had at the Championships, I  enjoyed myself immensely – thank you.  Lesley Makin (DC).

20/8/14 The South Durham Pony Club are holding a Pony Club/PRA Pony Racing Training Day, Sunday 21st September at Howe Hills Farm, Mordon (where we hold our pony race day).
The day begins at 9.00am and ends at 4.00 – 4.15pm approximately.
These are a joint training initiative run by the Pony Racing Authority and the Pony Club.

Experienced Pony Club Instructors teach alongside BHA accredited Jockey Coaches and provide the best possible introduction to pony racing. These days not only allow children to ride their own pony in a controlled environment and on the gallops but also provide an insight into balance and control in a forward seat with the simple use of wobble boards, space hoppers and stepping stones, running alongside the use of traditional racing equipment such as an equicisor.

In addition to riding tuition, the training programme includes advice on rider and pony fitness and nutrition, tack guidance and race day procedures and etiquette.

Members and their pony will be assessed as to their ability, confidence & competence and at the end of the day will be informed by the Assessor as to whether they have passed. If this is the case then they will be able to use this qualification to enter a Pony Club Race Day and be eligible to take part in Pony Racing Authority (PRA) races staged in 2014.

7/8/14 CAMP LOST PROPERTY - remarkably I haven’t come home with a boot full of lost items!  But I do have a couple of things – has anyone lost anything?  Jade Hesler has lost her white dressage saddlecloth – that was almost brand new!  Contact Lesley.

26/4/14 Lovely afternoon at the Cleveland Games Friendly well organised and great atmosphere we all need to remember the effort that goes into these competitions by dozens of volunteers so thank you!  Our little mini teams were a credit to South Durham, beautifully turned out  and picture of smiles and laughter.   We had very respectable results especially since two of the team members hadn’t reached their 4th birthday yet!  3rd Rosie Carr, Chloe & Samantha Johnson, Kate North;  5th Nicole Apicella, Poppy Laws, Thomas Loughlin, Ben Summers 6th Ella and Martha Gibbon; Hannah Loughlin; Edie Shotton-Cracknell (who celebrated her 7th birthday on the day!); Lola Shotton-Cracknell.  Well done boys and girls and a huge thank you to all that helped and supported these teams to practice…. Lesley Makin (DC)

14/4/14 TET SHOOT PRACTICE …. Next shoot training session with Kim Dougall is the 16th May. There will be shoot practice on 25.04.14. I am unable to do the 02.05.14 and the 09.05.14 however if anyone wants to volunteer to take the sessions, open up, lock up etc then please contact me. Names for practices Monday before please. Are you under 10 years on the 1st January 2014 & interested in being part of a team at The Cleveland Hunt Pony Club Prince Philip Cup Mounted Games Friendly on Saturday 26th April?

12/2/14 The Tetrathlon Championship dates and venue are now confirmed as the 19th to 21st August at Bishop Burton.  These dates squeeze between the National Championships at Cholmondeley (Cheshire) August 15th to 18th and the Novice Championships at Kelsall Hill (Cheshire)  23rd August to 24th.

For those of you who feel optimistic about being selected for teams and qualifying for two sets of Championships i.e Tetrathlon and National or have siblings that might…. please consider the commitment BEFORE accepting a place on a team.  Thank you Lesley Makin (DC)

12/1/14 Musical Ride Team Training – Following the success and enjoyment of the participants last year Friedl is training a team again for the 2014 competition. The competition this year will be held at the PC Championships between 15th – 18th August at Cholmondeley Castle in Cheshire. First training session this year is Thursday 16th January @ 7pm at Dalton Piercy Indoor School. If you can commit yourself to those dates and would like to give it a go, we would love to see you on 16th January.

26/10/2013 I realise you may be out of practice in booking rallies, so please can you read the booking information on the 2013/14 Programme TAB as we’ve just made some changes.

These changes have been created because we are still receiving too many later comers wanting to join a rally.  The committee absolutely believe that where possible any member wishing to come to a rally must be given the opportunity, despite their parents somewhat lax administration skills!  However, we also need the time to ensure that rides are grouped into similar ability etc which in itself is complicated to then add someone else can tip the balance unless there is a clear gap and or a suitable ride.  Putting a child in the wrong ride isn’t any good for the other members or the child and if I recall parents are the first to complain about this – so please don’t create any more work for Margaret or complaints for me to address by getting the in booking late.
