Team Show Jumping News inc Lincolnshire Show 2012
The Team Show Jumping competitions are fast approaching!
The first one we will be doing is on Saturday 5th May at Grant Equestrian near Newark and is run by the Rufford Pony Club. This has always been really popular with our members in the past and the SWN have had great success over recent years. There are classes for everyone from 60cm (10 & under) to 1 metre. A full list can be found at:
http://branches.pcuk.org/rufford/team-showjumping-competition-2012/ .
Please contact me ASAP with your interest so that teams can start to be put together and entries sent off.
On Thursday 21st June the Lincolnshire Show Junior Baton relay takes place. For those of you who don’t know this is a team completion where teams of 3 compete head to head round a course of show jumps in the main arena at the Lincolnshire Show. Competitors must be no older than 16 on 1st of June and horses/ponies be no larger than 15hh. You must be confident show jumping 1 metre at speed. Preliminary entries will be sent shortly so it is important that anyone who is interested in being considered contact me now. Selection trials will take place in May. If you want to discuss this in more detail please do not hesitate to contact me.
We also need to start thinking about the Area competitions that are on 22nd July again at the Lincolnshire Showground. Your Horse/Pony must have attended at least 3 rallies since July 1st 2011 (This includes camp) so if this is not the case please book in to ensure eligibility. You must also be available for the Championships if we are lucky enough to qualify. These are on 16th – 19th August for the intermediate/open and 25th – 26th August for the Novice.
For those who are not aware there are 3 levels. Novice (90cm in 1st round), Intermediate (1.00 in 1st round) and Open (1.10 in 1st round). Will all those wishing to be considered for the teams please let me know by return.
I look forward to hearing from you.

South Wold Hunt North Show Jumping 2012
I thought it would be a good idea to give you all some information about what 2012 has in store for us and introduce myself to all of our new members. We have an action packed year ahead and we are looking forward to taking part in lots of team competitions and events where there are usually opportunities for all levels and abilities.
Our year started with a very successful Show jumping competition at Kenwick with all classes being well supported. SWN members were out in force and had some brilliant results which are posted on the website. We also took all four qualifying places for the Dengie area final which will be held on 18th March so good luck to Jenny, Georgie, Alice & Lydia who will represent the branch at Trent Valley Equestrian Centre.
Training is held every fortnight at Kenwick which we can’t always guarantee to be warm but it is dry!!!! Ian Bennett, our instructor does a great job teaching our members and everyone is welcome to attend. If you are new to the branch and don’t know what to expect then just give me a ring and we can have a chat about the sessions.
We would love to hear about your own results and experiences (and photos) which can be sent directly to me david@tjrecruitment.co.ukso I can get them put on the website or our facebook page. Otherwise you can send them to Greg Smith who looks after the website – his details can be found there.
We have a number of very exciting team competitions to take part in throughout the year which range from 10 & under 2’3 level to the Hickstead Qualifier which is 1.10m in the first round. None of the schedules are out yet but provisional dates for team events in area 6 are:-
Hargate Arena (Meynell PC) Monday 9th April
Rufford PC near Newark Saturday 5th May
Quorn Sunday 13th May
Grove – Osberton (I Think) Sunday 27th May
Arena UK (Belvoir PC) Tuesday 5thJune (inc Hickstead Q)
Cottesmore Sunday 10th June
Brocklesby Show Sunday 24th June
South Notts Saturday 30th June
South Trent Saturday 7th July
Barlow Saturday 8th September
Fitzwilliam Sunday 14th October
These competitions usually have classes suitable for everyone although some clubs have restrictions on pony heights or age of rider. We probably won’t have time to compete at all events but we usually manage the ones in red so hopefully can do so again this year.
In addition to regular team competitions we also have three other very important dates for our diary:-
21stJune – The Lincolnshire Show baton relay
A very exciting competition held in the main arena at the County Show. Teams of 3 put themselves under enormous pressure and have lots of fun whilst doing so. We are hoping to get two teams to this event this year. Combinations must be able to jump up to 1m at speed – ponies must be under 15hh and riders no more than 16.
22nd July – Area Championships – Team and Individual at Novice, Intermediate & Open, This year’s area competition will be at Lincoln Showground so not very far away and a great venue.
30thAugust – Burghley Team Show Jumping, another fantastic venue and a brilliant experience for anyone taking part.
Competitors for these competitions will be selected so if you are interested in taking part then please let us know your results throughout the year and it is important to attend as many training sessions as possible so that we can assess suitability and experience.
Finally if you have any ideas, comments, concerns or questions then please contact me by phone or email. 07900 274595 david@tjrecruitment.co.uk
Showjumping with Dengie Qualifier
We enjoyed a busy and successful day at our annual show jumping competition at Kenwick on 22nd January 2012. As usual, Ian had built a challenging course and the team of Nick West and Charles Moses did an excellent job in the commentary box.
Throughout the day we had over 100 competitors. Many from our own pony club ,but also lots of local people and members from surrounding clubs too. We hope you all had a good day and thank you for your support.
There were lots of excellent performances from our own members with wins for Katrina (Novice pony), Jemma (Intermediate) Jenny (Small Open) & Lydia (Open).
SWN members also dominated the line up for the Dengie Qualifier with all four qualifying places being awarded to our SWNPC members. Well done to Jenny 1st, Georgie 2nd,Alice 3rd & Lydia 4th. The four can now enter the area final at Trent Valley Equestrian Centre in March, Good luck to them at that competition. Just missing out on qualifying were Jemma 5th and Becca 6thso a clean sweep for South Wold North.
There were also rosettes for Ella (2nd Intermediate), Amy ( 4th Intermediate ) Leon (3rd Minor Open) and Lily (2nd Minor Open & Open) and lots of others. Full results are on the website. Please forward any photos to Greg for the website.
We would like to say a great big thank you to everyone who helped either on the day or beforehand and to our sponsors who generously donated for the classes.
Show jump training has now started in earnest and we are looking forward to an exciting and fun packed year. There are lots of competitions coming up in the next few months and we hope to take part, as usual, in many of these. Please keep us informed of your achievements we love to hear how you are getting on. Any comments or suggestions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
David
Team Showjumping @ Burghley
Congratulations and really well done to Georgie Frow, Lily Dicker & Robyn & Niamh Lawrie, who represented the club at Burghley for Team Showjumping recently. It was a tough course and only 5 teams went through clear to a jump off. The first round is about 1’05 with a meaty treble and big spreads so quite a challenge. Set within the grounds of Burghley with the house as a backdrop it is a fantastic event to take part in. Our team finished on 8 faults which is a very respectable result for a young team. They all enjoyed the day and the experience of competing at such a prestigious venue will be something to remember for a long time.
Many thanks to Ian for his course walk and support on the day.
Novice Championships, Kelsall Hill Saturday 27th August 2011
Jemma Smith and River represented the pony club as an individual in Showjumping at the Novice Championships in Cheshire. The weather was appalling with almost incessant rain making jumping so much more difficult. Jemma started confidently in the 1st round, but a stop at the second last proved very costly. Following this disappointment (and buckets more rain!!!), the 2nd round presented a huge challenge. Despite a very brave attempt, the same fence as in the 1st round ultimately got the better of them.
The experience gained will hopefully be put to very good use next year.
