Mini Camp 2011

Mini Camp 2011

Mini-camp was held on the 15th-17th of August at  Holly House Brinkhill and a jolly good time was had by all.

Holly Ashcroft and Sandy and Rachel McMunn and Sox attended both girls and both ponies were absolute delight.

Camp started on monday morning with dressage and showjumping practise, working towards combined training style competition on wednesday afternoon. Sandy proved to be quiet a dressage diva!! On monday afternoon the girls worked towards their points of the horse achievement badge and then went on a hack which incorporated looking for and identifying crops and plants which both proved to be excellent at, they also worked on their riding and road safety skills whilst they were out.

Tuesday started with more practice for wednesday afternoon’s competition, after which, the girls worked towards their shoeing acheivement badge and had shoeing demonstration from Stuart Marshall who is the local farrier.  Tuesday afternoon was games afternoon which was great fun, Sox thought it was particularly good fun and amazing at the bending race.

Wednesday was test morning and both girls acheived their Road Rider mini acheivement badge and sat PC efficiency tests. Holly took and passed her E and  D and Rachel took and passed her D test very well done to both girls. Wednesday afternoon was spent getting ponies ready for the competition which included learning how to sew plaits in. Parents arrived at 2pm and the competition began. The dressage was very tense and the scores were very close, Holly and Sandy scoring 69.23 percent and Rachel and Sox scoring 68.46 percent, just 1 mark dividing them. The showjumping was also very close with both girls going clear, Rachel and Sox just has the edge on a style mark. Both girls and ponies did brilliantly well.

A big thank you to Abbie Ffitch-Moye who helped for the whole mini camp, she did a great job and to Emma Colson who is trainee equine coach who came to help us on monday and wednesday.

A big thank you to David Madeley who took on the role of camp dad. He looked after us all and we had some great lunches, with a BBQ on the last day.
