Endurance opportunities
Endurance really isn’t hard to “do”:
It’s not a marathon.
It’s not orienteering.
It’s not exhausting.
It’s just a great ride out!

Any members wishing to participate must be 8 years old on the day of the ride, and be 13 years or older on that day, to be allowed to ride alone, without an adult accompanying them  (Endurance GB rules)
Having said that, it’s much more enjoyable to ride as a group of friends along with any parents who might want to join in too!

DCs , CPs – Why not get a few members together and just try one of these rides?? Everyone completing the ride will get a rosette!
A typical ride takes about 2 hours, but of course it depends on the distance you choose – longer distance rides will usually take longer than shorter ones. Hilly rides are different to flat rides – it’s all common sense really.
All you need is a pony that is not lame and at a fitness level to be participating in rallies or schooling once or twice  a week; and hacking for an hour or so on a regular basis.
At this level of fitness, you’d be fine to do up to 22km. (10km is about 6 miles)

All rides are run by EGB. Pony Club branches can run their own rides – but let’s be honest, we have enough to organise without this! (But they can be a good way or raising money for branch funds)

Everyone (member, parent, friend) makes their entry online via EGB Clubhouse
Just create your profile as a Club member (free)
Find a ride you want to do and enter!
Enter ASAP – rides have an opening and closing date, and are often oversubscribed.
Book early to avoid disappointment – full refund if you withdraw before the closing date

For entry level, go for a Pleasure Ride (PR) – they are cheaper than the Graded Rides (GERs). GERs are like affiliated competition – so no need to start there!

Please let me know when you have members out and about at a ride – I’m happy to “meet and greet” and get them across that start line and offer any help and advice they may need.

PS: Ride list attached as pdf (easy to read on mobile devices and tablets)
Ride list attached as Excel (Easy to add all your other “life events” like birthday’s, holidays and PC rallies – make a ride planner for your season!)

Kind regards, Fiona Williams
Bicton, The Elms and Tet training

Please see info and attachments about some forthcoming events and training.

I’ve added some advance info re the Bicton Inter Area Tetrathlon to encourage competitors to save the date. Please feel free to pass on and publicise. More info and actual schedule to follow shortly from Gill Whetman.

Please see the attachments about a training clinic .  Heather Mccalman will post on FB and send to Area 18 tet  branch reps. She has  requested that you send any feedback or queries ( it is mid GCSEs!! so maybe we will get  younger kids than we had hoped !) Please email her at <walesandborderstet@gmail.com>

Another date for your diaries.  The Elms Tetrathlon / Triathlon will be held on Sunday 1st May, not in June, this year. This is because of so many Bank Holidays, etc when no one will be at school. The schedule will be out next week.

Hope that all is well with you and that you’re making the most of improved weather!  Kind regards

Endurance CPD for coaches

The Endurance Committee is working to support more members to take part and try the sport. To help this to take place in branches themselves Robert Blane has progressed an online session for Coaches to support them to find out more about the sport and get members ready to take part.

Spaces are limited to 20 people on the 5th April at 7 pm.

For a summary of the session and to book please see the link below. The session is an approved CPD for coaches and following successful attendance, our PELHAM records will be updated to reflect.

https://pcuk.org/sports/endurance/coaches-training-in-endurance/

Would it be possible to encourage coaches to sign up where possible?

Many thanks

Pony Club Race Days 2022

We’re very pleased to confirm we have 9 Race Days this year and it is looking rather positive that there may be a 10th soon to be available. This is in line with the Pony Racing Pathway progression Charles and I shared in our summer update last year.

The first Race Day is early April, we have 4 race days currently accepting entries. The two new ones to note are Bangnor on Dee and Milborne St Andrews.

If you have members who would be interested in taking part in Pony Racing they can find out more about the Days:

https://pcuk.org/sports/pony-racing/competitions-and-events/pony-club-race-days/

To enter a Pony Club Race Day, the Combination of Member and Pony must have since 1st July the previous year participated in;

  1. a minimum of 2 Qualifying Rallies/Coaching/Training Sessions as per The Pony Club Handbook or
  2. a minimum of 1 (passed) PRA/PC Training Day
  3. attended and Completed a British Racing School or National Racing College Level 3 Training day (Passed)

I very much appreciate your help and support o far with encouraging centres and branches to give racing a try and wondered if you might share that entries are open with DCs/ Centres and via your social media please?

If you have any questions or queries about Pony Racing please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Many thanks

Area 10 Eventing League

Area 10 PC/BE League 2022

Area 10 is going to run a BE/PC league competition again this Year.

There will be three classes: BE90, BE100 and BE Novice (PC110)  and the entry fee for EACH class will be £10 (or £15 for a later entry) this is a one off payment for that class for the Eventing Season. You can enter as many different classes as you would like on the same horse or different horses. Separate entries are required for each horse/class. This is a non-profit making competition and the entry money, plus a donation from Area 10 will make up the prizes.

The prizes will be training vouchers with a BE accredited coach or someone from the Pony Club coaches list of your choice. The more entries we receive the more prizes that will be given. Previous prizes included a rug and voucher up to £100 for the winners. Please see the table below regarding how the point system works. We have changed this from previous years to reward good XC/Jumping Horses. We will also be giving DOUBLE points for those who do the Area Eventing qualifier. Half points will be awarded for points earned before your entry is made, so it will pay to get your entry in quickly. All BE results during this year will count. The winner of each class will be the one with the highest number of points.

Entry fee for EACH class will be £10 (or £15 for entries after 1st May). Please include your name, the BE/passport name of your horse, the class, or classes you wish to enter plus BACs payment. Entries can be taken now but will close on 1st July. Please email all entries to monmouthshire@pcuk.org.

The Hurst College National Schools and Pony Club Championships (hickstead.co.uk)
As many of you will remember Hickstead has for very many years held a very prestigious competition for Pony Club teams. Unfortunately, last year the date was changed to fit everything in after the covid delay and it was very poorly attended. James Loffet has spoken with Lizzie Dunn and they have moved it forward to avoid clashes but unfortunately, it is not within the school holidays but hopefully after most exams.  There is now no limit on teams from each Area, the more the merrier and the whole competition will take place in the international arena.

Please can you promote this wonderful competition within your areas as it is another highlight of the year.

Best wishes all
Isobel
