Area 13 Dressage & Showjumping Qualifiers 2026 | Saturday 11 – Sunday 12 July 2026

What a fabulous two days of competition we had over the weekend for the Area 13 Dressage and Showjumping qualifiers at Coombelands Equestrian.

It was hot but the team did a fantastic job to ensure the best available conditions for both human and equine competitors.  There was a horse wash-off area provided and a last minute move to get the Dressage arenas onto a surface proved to be a popular decision.  Our Dressage Judges were very understanding and coped admirably with their quite unique viewing positions.

This move meant that the Showjumping arenas were a little smaller than originally planned but course builder John Farrell took this in his stride and created cleverly designed courses for the PC70, PC80 and PC90 where the rounds were run concurrently.  For the PC100 and PC110 the arena was made bigger and the rounds run consecutively.  We also took the decision to run the PC110 over two rounds (rather than three) to reduce fatigue for both horses and riders.

The gusty wind on Sunday caused additional issues and credit must go to Molly Barnard and Catherine Van Randwyck for some very calm riding in the face of some very unexpected adversity!

Special thanks must go to all the fabulous volunteers who braved standing out in the sun.  We really can’t run any event without parking and ring stewards, writers, pole pickers, scorers, caterers and “bun run” so thank you to all of you who put yourselves forward and gave up your time so that the members could have a fantastic two days.  There were lots of familiar faces and it was fabulous to see some new volunteers too so a massive thank you to all of you for your time.

A special mention for Julie Campbell our Chief Steward, we always feel grateful for her steady hand on the wheel.  The conditions certainly tested us all this year, but she guided us through and managed everything brilliantly.
