Area 13 Prince Philip Cup Qualifiers | Sunday 31 May 2027

Thank you to Staff College & Sandhurst Hunt Pony Club for hosting the Area 13 Prince Philip Cup Qualifiers held at Stanford End Farm, Reading.

As a branch we took on the Area MG competition for the first time, not realising quite how stressful some of the preparations would be in the sunshine.
Namely measuring out the arena! Good job we had a trundle wheel to go back and forth measuring and re-measuring and then checking again that all the poles and lines were all correct.
It was disappointing to have very few teams, especially when we all reminisced about the days of three heats and a final for each race.

Thank you to all the teams that entered, and a big shout out to the mixed teams from Chiddingfold and Petersfield. All teams were well turned out and prepared for the competition, which ensured that we had a competitive day. They also brought with them many supporters who happily ate the refreshments we provided.

After a few hiccups with passports and a briefing from MG Committee Chair Ian Mariner, the competition began.

The Senior competition as usual was fast and furious, especially between Staff College & Sandhurst Hunt and Bisley & Sandown. This year was to be Bisley & Sandown’s and they were all really excited by the chance to lift the trophy, especially Philippa as their trainer.

The Junior Competition was a well fought battle too between two teams Bisley & Sandown and Petersfield and Chiddingfold; Bisley & Sandown couldn’t believe their win to make it a double header. Well done 

Three pairs took to the start line for the final competition of the day, but a strong experienced team from Staff College & Sandhurst Hunt demonstrated a near perfect performance to take the win ahead of Bisley & Sandown.

Good luck to all who have qualified for Southern Zones on Saturday 11 July.
Hopefully next year will have more teams competing.

Finally, a big thank you to all the volunteers from our branch past and present who helped make the competition a success.
