“As part of my prize for winning my section last year at the Pony Club Open Eventing Championships I was invited to attend the Eloise and Katie Bursary training at Attington Stud with renowned World Class trainer Gill Watson. Due to 2 of the winners having to drop out I was invited to bring a second horse along with Kellen so I took my 5 year old, William. (Dad was chuffed as he no longer had to muck him out while we were away!!) Having my 2 horses there was really useful as I was able to get an insight into Gills views on young horse training as well as the more established horse.
William had a very useful Dressage lesson on the first day followed by a Cavaletti session in the afternoon for Kellen. This is something I don’t do a lot of but all three of the horses who took part showed marked improvement through the session. That evening we were very kindly invited to Gill’s home for supper along with Celia Plunkett who also came to watch the sessions. The next morning Kel had a ‘test run through’ session which was really helpful as Gill commented on it as a Judge would so that we could see where we could gain valuable marks.
The afternoon sessions focused on course jumping and both of my boys jumped really well. Although it was a long way to travel it was more than worth the journey and I would love to do it all again……. Fingers crossed for this years Champs!”
Some photos from the Area 5 PC L2 Coaches Course which was held at Mostyn Farm Ride on Sunday 17th September 2017.
Great day, lovely atmosphere and fab experience for all the demo riders and coaches to fine tune their skills, and we even got to have a play around the cross country course at the end.
A big thank you to Meg Green and her team for organising this training.
