Ledbury Hunt PC Tetrathlon

Ledbury Hunt Pony Club Tetrathlon
Saturday and Sunday 16th & 17th May 2015

Day one at the Ledbury saw the eleven strong team turn up at Whiting Ash Farm, Berrow for shooting or bean bagging depending on age.  The tour then proceeded a few miles down the road to Gadbury where the running phase took place and the riding courses were being prepared for the following day. Fortunately the weather was kind, allowing some relaxation time in the sun in between running and walking the ride course.  Tiddlers were given an arena with show jumps, Tadpoles a separate arena with small but spooky rustic fences and all levels Mini and above were to head out on the full cross country course. The going was good after recent rain and the courses were each challenging enough to make the riding phase influential. The last phase on Saturday was the swim at Ledbury swimming pool – roasting hot, crowded and noisy but certainly full of tension and excitement! We were all keen to get home in good time with an early start the next day and horses to get ready.

Fortunately Sunday also brought good weather and some great results for the team.

Our sole representative was Miles Hall whose mixed team took 2nd place. Miles produced a good round in the riding to score maximum points.

The Tadpole team of George Hall, Orlo Clark, Harry Smith and Monty Adamson took 5th place.  Orlo finished individual 4th while he & Harry Smith both scored maximum ride points.

The Beaufort team of only 3 Minis managed to take team honours with all scores counting.  Will Connors (1st & =Best Shoot), Bea Adamson (2nd) and Charles Hall (6th ) made up the team. Will & Bea scored maximum ride points.

Our Junior team of Tom Connors, Maddie Adamson & Poppy Clark really had their work cut out for them.  With only 3 members and Poppy unable to do the Shot & Run on Saturday, they had to rely on “two-and-a-half” scores to count.  Still they managed to take team honours by a narrow margin. Maddie won the Junior Girls and Tom was second in Junior Boys.  All three team members scored maximum points in the ride over a 90cm course. Poppy should really be a first year Mini so this was quite an achievement!

It was a long two days but everyone enjoyed the weekend and felt a great sense of achievement with their results.

Well done everyone

Alex Connors
