JCB National Championships: LATEST UPDATES
Burghley Pony Club Showjumping Report
Seven Burghley riders qualified for the champs across the 90cm and 100cm team classes. For the competition, each rider had to complete two rounds, the second of which was in the main JCB ring with bold, challenging fences and a buzzing atmosphere.
90cm Team – Holly, Ava, Maddison and Laura
Despite a tack malfunction mid-round, Maddie kept her cool in the first phase with her horse, Dr Pepper, picking up 12 faults. Some super riding saw Holly, on Teddy; Ava on Gunner and Laura on Dawn jump brilliant clear rounds.
In the second phase, Maddie came back strongly picking up just four faults, Holly had an unlucky eight, and Ava and Laura each tipped a single pole.
The girls ended on a very commendable 12 faults, which meant that they came a very impressive 13th in a massive field over almost 70 teams.
100cm Team – Tilda, Ava, Flora and Faith
Next up were the Burghley Titans. Tilda, riding Darcy; Ava on Gunner; Flora on Douglas and Faith on Bean all rode with such confidence and professionalism throughout the competition that the judges awarded them the cup for best horsemanship.
Ava set the tone with a clear, Tilda and Flora followed with four faults each and Faith finished on eight.
The team’s second round in the JCB Arena was a highlight. Ava and Tilda both produced stylish clears, while Flora had just one pole and Faith finished off the team effort strongly.
With 12 faults overall, they ended up in 12th place out of nearly 50 teams.
In huge national fields, both Burghley teams delivered top-quarter finishes with strong, confident rounds under pressure – a fantastic achievement at this level. Huge well done, Team Burghley!
Burghley Pony Club Polocrosse Round-Up
Our polocrosse riders did Burghley, and themselves, proud at this year’s Pony Club Championships, showing impressive skill and sportsmanship in some very tough matches.
Zara rode up an age group, playing as a Senior for the first time. Despite the challenge of competing with and against older players, she and her team battled hard throughout the competition to finish in an impressive second place.
Thomas made his Champs debut playing in the Novice Minis. One of the youngest competitors in the section, and playing as part of a mixed areas team, he scored several goals to help his team to come a brilliant second place in what was a tough, hard-fought final.
Ava played in the Open Juniors as part of an Area 6 team, which won the coveted Tack and Turnout award. On the pitch, the team came up against some tough competition, and, despite the scores not going their way, Ava played brilliantly.
A huge well done everyone!
