Polocrosse Success!

An Area 6 polocrosse team formed entirely from Burghley branch members played outstandingly in the Bombers Pony Club Polocrosse Autumn Challenge at Admington Polo Grounds in Warwickshire on 5th and 6th September. Ava Lambert (9), Zara Stafford (11) and Perdy Gale (9) played in the Novice Minis group. They won their first match 2-1, won 4-1 in their second match and played a blinding final where they surged ahead by 3 goals only to lose out in the last couple of minutes. How amazing to come second in their first tournament as a team (and the first one ever for Zara, Ava and their ponies Mara and Ozzy, who only took up the sport a matter of weeks ago). Well done!!

Mickey Mouse Club!
Our under 11s have been very busy throughout the summer attending our MMC weekly rallies in the park. Our super-enthusiastic (and very smiley) members have all worked very hard and made lots of progress with their riding, all whilst having lots of socially- distanced fun with friends. There have been mini Achievement Badges galore, and we’ve also worked on stable management aspects, culminating in 15 members achieving their D Efficiency Test and a further 10 gaining their E test. Here are just a few snaps to whet your appetites!
MMC will be continuing throughout September and October (weather permitting) and everybody is extremely welcome. Please contact Hannah for more information.

Cottesmore Team SJ Competition 31/08/2020

Bank Holiday Morning saw the first inter-branch showjumping competition of the year and it was great fun to be out testing our wits against out neighbouring branches again! We had a great day with lots of fantastic results! Full results on the FB page, but huge congratulations to Ava Lambert who finished 1st in the 60cm, Faith Harwood who was 3rd in the 80cm, and great team results with team 3rds in 60 and 70cm and 2nd in the 90cm! Well done everyone –  great riding all round!

Huge thanks to all competitors, you were all a credit to the branch –  Holly, Perdy, Isabelle B, Maddie, Ava, Faith, Matilda H, Savannah, Annabel A, Barney, Millie H, Harry H, Clara, Els, Emily T, Sophie M, Emily VdW, Jess T, Tash  – super stars!!

Lockdown Camp 2020

26 of our younger members enjoyed two days of fun in the Burghley Fields this August for our special Lockdown Day Camp. The small groups meant plenty of opportunity for everyone to experience dressage, showjumping, working hunter, gridwork, games and even Polocrosse. Every member threw themselves fully into the spirit of things in spite of the British weather doing its utmost to confuse! Huge thanks to the parents and instructors who made this such a special occasion for all involved.

July 2020 –  Business as usual for Burghley!

Full programme of activities back in the park and it’s been great to see so many of our members getting involved, from the tiniest, at the very popular Saturday morning Mickey Mouse Club, through to our oldest members preparing to get out competing again!

June 2020 –  Rallies back in full swing and it’s great to be back in the Park!

Very excitingly, June saw the recommencement of ridden activities for our pony club (of course whilst strictly adhering to the Goverment guidelines to keep us safe in relation to Covid-19.) All rallies have been very well supported and it’s been lovely to start to get us all back together again. The highlight of course has been the return to our home in the beautiful grounds of the Burghley Estate –  Welcome Home Burghley Pony Club!

Great Participation in our virtual show! – May 2020

Our recent Virtual show held in lieu of the cancelled Novice Show was a great success, with a huge numbers of members, parents and general ‘hanger-on-ers’ all taking part. Huge thanks to Hannah Hoyles and Sarah Hind for all their work in pulling it together.

Easter Holiday Activities –  April 2020

Although the Covid-19 lock down has meant that we have not be able to get together on our horses, it most definitely hasn’t stopped The Burghley from getting together virtually! We’ve had a huge range of activities to keep us busy during the Easter Holidays, from virtual dressage, to our very own bake off  and of course the loo-roll challenge, to name but a few! Huge thanks to Sarah Hind and Hannah Hoyles for all their hard work!

Huge congratulations to our super assistant DC, Claire Daly, who recently rode like a demon to win the BE90 Open Arena Eventing Championships on the irrepressible Ralphie G! Great start to the season –  come on Burghley Members you’ve got a lot to live up to!

Triathlon/Tetrathlon News 2020

January – The Quorn Triathlon

Our intrepid team of Burghley Triathletes braved the freezing cold at the Quorn Tri today… and all performed brilliantly!

Huge successes for our older members with Harry 5th in the Junior section with ‘Best Shoot’, and Oli coming an almighty 2nd individually in the Open with ‘Best Run’. Well done to both!

Representing our younger members, Felicity was an impressive 3rd individually with a medal for her incredibly fast ‘Best Run’, and was also part of a mixed team with the Cottesmore, finishing in 3rd position. Millie and Pips were both awesome in the Minis section: Pips (with a mighty PB in her shoot) was placed 5th individually, and Millie (with ‘Best Swim’ and her own PB) was placed 6th. Together they were part of the mixed team finishing in 2nd with the Belvoir.

And in the all-important Geriathlon section our “Burghley Burlies” were a mighty 5th and are very pleased with their pink frillies.

A huge well done everyone.

February – The Fitzwilliam Triathlon

A huge well done to all the fantastic competitors at the Fitzwilliam Triathlon today.

There were some very strong performances across the board with individual placings for Faith (3rd out of 22) in the Tadpole Girls, and Felicity and Maddie (3rd and 6th respectively out of 31) in the Beanie Girls. Personal Best swims for Millie (best swim in her class) and Faith and Maddie; an amazing ‘Best Run’ for Felicity with a very quick time; plus a full trio of PBs for both Jemima and Flo, who are on an absolute roll!

Teams were a bit confusing and the final scores took forever to be released, so more results to follow… but we definitely had a 3rd in the Beanie Girls and I think a 4th for our only Beanie Boy, Archie!

Not the easiest weather conditions (wet, windy and muddy) but as you can see, spirits were high, behaviour was exemplary, and everyone tried their hearts out. Incredibly well done to our First-Timers: Archie, Phoebe, Laura, Perdy, Felicity H and Harriet – we hope you’ll do it again! And to Flo, Esme, Annabel who all moved up a class in this competition and shot with a gun for the first time.
