What is Show Jumping?<\/h3>\n

Show Jumping is where a horse and rider combination are tested over a course of colourful obstacles, known as fences, which can be easily knocked down if they are hit. The goal is to complete the course in the fastest time without getting any faults.<\/p>\n

Faults are gained when a fence is knocked down, the horse stops at a fence (refuse) or the horse runs around a fence (run out).<\/p>\n

Show Jumping can take place both indoors and outdoors, so is perfect to enjoy all year round.<\/p>\n

Intended to demonstrate the horse and rider\u2019s courage, athletic ability, precision, speed and partnership, your aim is to jump a clear round. If you manage to jump clear, you will go through to the second stage which is called a \u201cjump-off\u201d. A jump-off is a shortened course which is timed. The winner is the horse and rider with the least faults and the fastest time in the jump-off.<\/p>\n

There are various levels you can jump at and you can go on to compete as an individual or as part of a team.<\/p>\n

At Burton Hunt Pony Club we offer SJ training for all abilities from those just starting out on lead rein up to the more advanced wanting to compete at higher levels. We have a variety of instructors and hold training both indoor and outdoor at several locations. Training sessions focus on different aspects of SJ from rider position to straightness, riding lines and bends over a mix of fences. All training is focused on rider confidence as well as improving ability.<\/p>\n

Show Jumping in the Burton Pony Club<\/h3>\n

Showjumping is always popular with members, we do regular training on alternate Tuesday evenings at Riseholme with a selection of enthusiastic, experienced coaches. Training in small groups of riders of similar ability. We can accommodate those jumping small cross poles to members jumping big tracks 1m+.<\/p>\n

We also run specialist Showjumping training on an ad hoc basis especially in the run up to Area Showjumping and Pony Club Team Competitions at Chatsworth, Osberton & Burghley.
