Cattistock Triathlon 21/1/18  Area 14 Championship qualifier

The weather could not have been more miserable on Sunday for our Area 14 triathlon (2 qualify per class for champs- mini & above)!!  Rain, rain and more rain!!  Leweston school kindly hosted us in great style despite the appalling conditions and deepest mud!! In total 27 Cattistock kids entered with 7 Cattistock cubs turned out in 2 teams.  Good bean throwing by all followed by the run in terrible mud and they all did so well just to get round!  Charlie O flew round to win The run & 3rd swim to win overall! Eloise F also had a super run & best swim

These 2 & with  Jack D & Florence R  coming team 3rd! Tabby S, Freya H & Evie B all competing for the first time had fun and looked good!

The Mini girls had a great result of team 2nd (out of 15!) with Skye F1st individually & qualified for the Tri Champions with a fantastic shoot (2nd) and swim (1st) Flora SB 7th and Loveday F 9th. An unfortunate error of course on the run by Flora and Skye gave them extra penalties on the run – lesson learned for the future! The other team of Ellie C, Ruby B, Mary S & Erin M did well too, some out competing for the first time as well!  Mini boys Arthur F (just up from Cubs & best Cattistock!) and Freddie G put in great performances finishing team 6th as part of a mixed team.  Arthur had a brilliant run keeping up with much bigger boys, giving them all a run for their money, definitely one to watch.

The juniors also did brilliantly! The boys team of Jake & Fred F & Tom S came team 3rd despite poor Tom having to go home after the swim feeling unwell!  Fred was 4th in swim and 2nd run (against strong opposition!) coming 3rd individual & qualified for the Tri champs & brother Jake came a close 4th but sadly not not qualifying but this is his first year in this strong age group.  The girls Issy C, Isabel H, Elektra C, Darcy D & Flora S all performed well. Issy C won overall & qualified with a 3rd in run/shoot & 2nd in swim! Elektra came 4th – 3rd shoot & 1st swim but just missed qualifying by 1 point!! Darcy was 2nd (but had already qualified elsewhere) won the shoot, 2nd run 4th swim.  These 3 & Flora came team 1st! Isabel had a lovely swim & run and was a mixed team 3rd. Our Open girl Coco S also had a storming day, 3rd individually & qualifiedfor champs and was part of the winning team!  A great success and fun had by all, despite the mud, technical hitches & rain we had a great triathlon.  Lovely CHPC parents helping out all day, getting wet and muddy, many rosettes won and smiley faces and PC kids from all over SW coming to compete.

Thank you to all who helped out, you were brilliant, thank you for bringing the kid along and come again!!

Any one who would like to take part in the next triathlon in Feb please be in touch with Camilla Roberts, everyone welcome & we love having you along. Shoot rallies will recommence shortly!

Congratulations to those who have now qualified for Tri Championships, Darcy D, Bea S, Fred F, Issy C, Skye F & Coco S – just fantastic & we wish you all the very best of luck in March at Milton Keynes!!

South Devon and Moorland Pony Club Triathlon 2018

Bea S was competing in the Mini Girls. She really enjoyed her day having not competed for a while. She got a PB in the swim, very nearly getting to the magic 6 lengths! A good run and shoot meant that she qualified out of area for the triathlon champs in March. bea 2018

Wylye Valley Triathlon Results 19th November 2017

As ever the WV put on a fabulous triathlon, a huge thank you to them.  Charlie O and Arthur F made up an under 7 team with 2 members from the Beaufort & came first out of 22 teams! Individually Arthur came first overall and Charlie 2nd out of 78 competitors with  Arthur winning the swim and the run and Charlie came 2nd in the run and 3rd in the bean bag throw.

A very good day for the Cattistock minis!

Tabitha T had her first triathlon outing and did well and had fun in the minis. Fred F had a super day, he won the run by miles, even having gone wrong twice!!  He had a lovely swim and shoot to just miss the top slot by 3 points to come individually 2nd. Well done Fred!!

B&SV Triathlon – 29th October 2017

On Sunday 29th October Charlie O, Arthur F and Mary S (all 7yrs old) took part in the B&SV Triathlon at Hazlegrove, representing the Cattistock Pony Club. It was a really well organised day with delicious hot and cold food available and lots of friendly people.

The trio swam like fish, threw bean bags like experts and ran like the wind. There was a lovely relaxed atmosphere, the focus was to have fun and enjoy the day. The bonus was that this Cattistock team won their section and also had a collection of individual prizes. A fun day all round!

CONGRATULATIONS & WELL DONE

Bea S competed in the Wyle Valley Tetrathlon at the end of August and won indivudally,  This competition was also the Area 14 Mini Championships so Bea is now Area 14 Tetrathlon Champion !

WYLYE VALLEY TETRATHLON

Seven of our fantastic tetrathlon team enjoyed the beautiful sunshine last week end at one of the most competitive tetrathlons in the area. As always the Wylye Valley team hosted an excellent event providing us all with a beautifully built and substantial cross country course, excellent organization and, very importantly, lots of cake!

The cross country on Saturday provided challenges for all but our two mini girls, Flora and Bea showed everyone how to do it with two lovely clear rounds. Our other athletes all had a few mishaps but still had a fantastic day and completed with smiles and big pats for their horses.

Poor Elektra woke on Sunday morning not feeling well but the others all returned to Nunney ready to face the shooting range, swimming pool and running course with some excellent results.

In the mini girls Flora SB was placed 6th with a good shoot and swim and PB in her run. Bea S had an outstanding day with a win in both the shoot and run and second in the swim which secured her another fantastic individual win. Both girls were in the winning team.

Emily S was competing in the Novice juniors and with a winning swim and her always exceptional run came home with a very commendable individual third.

The junior boys also had a good day with Fergus G gaining 5th place and team Second and Tom S gaining 4th place with a winning run and third place in the swim. He also was in the third placed team.

Issy C surprised herself with a win in the shoot, equalled her PB in the swim to take second and then won the run to secure the individual win.

Well done to you all.

Area 14/15/16 Tetrathlon Qualifier  – 8-9th July – Launceston, Cornwall

Our area 14 tet qualifier was held in Launceston.   Just Elektra from CHPC journeyed down for this and had a super weekend despite being very tired at the end of term! A good shoot, an ok swim for her (rather off her pb!) and a hot run in the long grass set her up for the xc on Sunday. Sadly we got home to find her horse was lame so we took her (very kind!) sisters horse that Elektra had not ridden before down! The xc course was up to height and had some tricky technical questions, very few clears and Elektra had run outs due to over jumping tight trebles! A super round none the less and brought her home 2nd Area junior girl and qualified for Bishops Burton tet championships in August! Much looking forward to them!

Sandroyd Tetrathlon, June 2017

We had Bea, Loveday, Eloise and Fergus competing in this popular tetrathlon. It was Eloise’s first tetrathlon and she did amazingly well, winning the run and jumping a lovely clear round, helped by Connie who deserved a rosette of her own after running round the course! Loveday had her best shoot ever, a very good run and swim and a clear round to come 4th in the very large Mini Girls class. Bea had a very good day in the same class, jumping a swift clear round, winning the run and having an excellent shoot and swim to win overall. Fergus had a good shoot and an almost clear on Buzz who he had never ridden before. Well done all.

Inter-Area Tetrathlon at Bicton, May 30/31 2017

This two-day event is always a highlight of the tetrathlon calendar. This year there were competitors from across Southern England and Wales. Over 40 different Pony Club branches were represented!Bicton Tet

Cattistock PC had Fred , Jake and Fergus as a team in the Junior Boys class, Elektra and Issy in the Junior Girls and Skye, Loveday, Bea and Flora in the Mini Girls.  Fred, Jake, Elektra, Issy, Skye and Bea were all selected to represent Area 14 and make up the prestigious Area teams.

The swim and shoot took place at Exmouth Leisure Centre. There was some great shooting from the Cattistock crew, particularly from Elektra and Bea who both won the shoot phase in their respective classes. The swim also went well for our intrepid tetrathletes. Of particular note were: Loveday, who has been swimming regularly and has improved hugely with an excellent 5 length 6 metre swim. Bea and Issy also achieved PBs. Fred also had a great swim in an incredibly strong Junior Boys class and another PB for Elektra with a fabulous 9l 13m swim!

The next day the competition moved to Bicton Arena for the ride and the run. First up, the Junior Boys ride. Fred rode an effortless clear round a testing 90cm course. Jake would have ridden clear..except he made an error and jumped the wrong fence! We all said it was because the actual course wasn’t enough of a challenge for him! Sadly, this earnt him lots of ride penalties which put him out of individual contention. Fergus showed his excellent horsemanship by borrowing Sarah Covells horse Max – 17.1 and Fergus had never ridden him before. He did incredibly well by jumping perfectly clear, sadly some time penalties at the slip rail prevented a full 1400 point ride.

Elektra rode an excellent clear in the Junior Girls and Issy just had a few time faults.

The Mini Girls course was a full-up 80cm, quite meaty and testing. Flora, Loveday and Skye all did absolutely brilliantly to jump completely clear. The course was a bit much for Bea’s pony, Brandon and he had two early stops, but they did very well to jump the rest.

The run was organised much better than last year and the Cattistock competitors all ran really well. Skye and Fred did really well to come second in their classes.

When the final scores were added up, the Cattistock Mini Girls had absolutely smashed it! Skye, who had performed excellently across all phases, was first individual, Bea was fourth, Flora 6th and Loveday scored over 4,000 points. Their team won the Pony Club branch competition by over a thousand points. Bea and Skye were also part of the winning Area 14 branch team. Bea won the shoot and Skye, Flora and Loveday all got Best Ride rosettes. Well done girls, a real ‘dream team’!

The Cattistock Junior Boys team came second overall, with Fred a very creditable 6th individual in a very strong class with some top class swimmers.

Elektra and Issy were part of the Junior Girls Area 14 team who came third overall. Elektra did particularly well to come 5th individually in this very large class full of very talented girls!

Eve Southcombe – TET Training Camp

During the Easter holidays I was lucky enough to attend the Pony Club Tetrathlon Training Camp at Bath University. This was a really special opportunity, with tetrathletes from the UK Ranking List invited to apply.

Eve Southcombe Tet Training25 of us spent the three days in the amazing surroundings of Bath University, with its excellent sports facilities and top-class coaches. International running coach Kylie Mansfield put us through our paces on the running track, Rachel Wreyford fine-tuned our shooting and Olympic swimmer Robin Francis gave us expert swimming training in the amazing 50m pool. We also had additional sessions of land training and conditioning, nutritional advice and sports psychology which was really interesting.

It was great to meet so many other like-minded tetrathletes, really good fun and I came away motivated and well prepared for the rest of the season. Thank you so much to DC Susan Harris for supporting my application and to the Pony Club for giving me this opportunity.

Pony Club Winter Triathlon Championships 2017 @ Milton Keynes

Cattistock members worked very hard over the winter to qualify for this prestigious event. We had six members representing Area 14 – an unprecedented number, of which the CHPC can be justifiably proud.

Mini Girls.

This was an exceptionally strong field. A score of 3,000 would have only given you 16th place in the final! Darcy D and Bea S swam first. Darcy was unlucky to just miss 6 lengths but still finished equal 7th in the swim. A fabulous shoot of 980 kept her in the placings and then a really impressive run catapulted her into Gold position. Well done Darcy. Bea was suffering from an ear infection but managed to struggle through the swim and then recorded the best shoot of the day in all sections, she was the only competitor to reach the magic 1000 points. Sadly, after the shoot, the calpol wore off and she was far too ill to run and had to withdraw.

Mini Boys.

Jack A kept us all on tenterhooks after an excellent swim put him third place overall but then a gun malfunction looked as though it might damage his chances in the shoot. We needn’t have worried as he borrowed a gun that he’d never used before and shot a cool 920 to keep him in contention. A really amazing run moved him into second place, missing out on the gold by 6 points! Well done Jack.

Junior Girls.

Issy C and Elektra C were always going to be strong contenders in this class and they didn’t disappoint. Issy had a cracking run on the track, recording the 5th fastest time against some particularly strong runners. She had a PB in the pool and kept her nerve to shoot 940 (a season’s best) and move into bronze position overall. Well done Issy. Elektra had a great swim to finish 4th in this discipline, a good shoot and her run kept her in the placings finishing in 6th overall. Brilliant work girls.

Junior Boys.

Fred F had his trademark brilliant run to finish 4th in this discipline. A good ‘top-half’ finish in the swim and shoot meant he finished a fantastic 5th overall. Well done Fred.

Area 14 Team Blue (Fred, Elektra, Darcy and Edie from the Tedworth) finished 3rd overall.

Area 14 Team Red (Issy, Jack, Bea and Holly P from the Wylye Valley) finished 6th from 56 Area Teams.

Congratulations everyone and thank you to Sarah Covell for doing such a good job over the Winter and being so patient!

Congratulations to Emma G, Sophie C & Emily C For winning the “Have A Go” Quiz and Horse & Pony Care Competition on 14th February 2018.

quiz picture feb 18

So after a few messages and phone calls Emma Greenway, Emily Chubb and Sophie Clotworthy were entered as a team for the Area 14 Pony Club Quiz & Horse and Pony Care Competition, which was held at Divorky Riding Centre, Shepton Mallet on a very wet Valentine’s Day!   Extremely smartly turned out, the Cattistock Hunt girls arrived along with 11 other teams from Area 14 Pony Clubs ready for a 1pm start.   Teams consisted of 3 members and the quiz was made up of 12 subject sections including road safety, poisonous plants, bits and biting, native breeds, grooming, tack, feeding and the foot, rotating at 5 minute intervals to the different sections around the room.  With an army of team managers supervising each section, the quiz began, with welcome breaks every 4 sections for drinks and snacks to fuel the competitors and allow some marking time for the organisers, calculators in hand!  A tense time then began to the sound of Oh and Ah as some of the answers were read out and the final result tally was made.   A tense few moments were then undergone, whilst I frantically checked the Cattistock Hunt teams score sheets – a wise move – as the “feeding” section   was 14 points short in the total, and the girls moved from 2nd into 1st place with a clear 8 points ahead of their nearest rivals.   Emma, Emily and Sophie were thrilled with the result, and whilst the competition was “have a go” style it gave them a tremendous confidence boost and was great fun!  Well done girls.

12th April CHPC Annual Team & Individual Show Jumping Competition at Kingston Maurward Equestrian Centre, Dorchester

This year we opened the competition up to Schools, Riding Clubs as well as Pony Club Branches and Centres.

We were incredibly lucky with the weather this year as the sun shone!

We had lots of lovely comments saying how friendly and relaxed the day was.

Katy and I work hard to make sure that the day runs smoothly however this would not be possible without our brilliant helpers who include Audrey Clarke, Sarah Covell, Jane Alexander and Claire Godman-Dorington who spent all day tack checking.

There is an art to running the arena gate and big thanks go to Chloe Diment and her helpers, Elektra Covell and Abigail Humphreys who kept the riders to their timings.

Esme Diment was the secretary for the day and she ensured that the judges and stewards knew of any changes to the riders, horses and running order.

Our judges were Mary and Marianne, and as always they were very efficient which meant that we were able to give the results out promptly and at one point we were running 30 minutes ahead of time!!!

Sarah Whittington was the course builder and from previous experience was careful of which fences we used, as in past competitions the ‘wavy planks’ have caused no end of trouble!! This year however it was our red wall and a very plain rustic fence that caused the most problems. Connor Pullin was our arena steward and he was kept busy putting fences back up.

In Class 1 we had 3 teams, Class 2 had 6 teams, Class 3 had 7 teams, Class 4 had 8 teams, Class 5 had 9 teams and Class 6 had 5 teams.

We had a Clear Round set up in the outdoor school and it proved very popular with the height being adjusted according to the horse & rider. The Clear Round was run smoothly by Mollie Diment, Abigail Humphreys, Portia Alexander,Kitty Godman-Dorington, Sacha Godman-Dorington and many other of the CHPC members who helped when not competing.

Shane Pym was our photographer and he took some amazing photos which can be found on his website:

http://www.esp-photographic.co.uk

We awarded Double Clear Rosettes in Classes 1 & 2 which many of the younger members were thrilled with!

Katy and i would like to say a big thank you to all our helpers, members and parents from CHPC and other clubs who helped us pack up at the end of the day, we were finished in record time.
