What to wear

CHIDDINGFOLD PONY CLUB 2021-TACK AND TURNOUT GUIDELINES

Safety for horse/pony and rider are of utmost importance. Your tack and turnout will be checked at each and every rally. Everyone should be smartly turned out, with clean ponies/horses, manes and tails brushed and feet correctly shod/trimmed.

 

Rallies, training, stable management and clinics

  • Dressage Rallies

THE RIDER:

Plain dark coloured (black, brown, navy, grey) or beige/white jodhpurs (no patterns), long boots or jodhpur boots with either long matching chaps or clips, clean and polished. Chiddingfold polo shirts or white/blue/red plain shirts/tops. A PC sweatshirt/jacket or plain coloured jacket without a hood maybe worn. No hoodies for riding. Tagged hat with plain black/brown/navy cover – no pom poms. Hairnets and plain gloves to be worn. Schooling whips only, no Jumping whips. No earrings or jewellery.

THE PONY:

Clean, plain clean tack. Numnahs should be plain coloured in the following colours, black, navy, brown, grey, white. No names, no sparkly bits or logos other than Chiddingfold PC.                                                                                    

Check your tack is in good condition, stitching on stirrup leathers etc.         Please check with the Committee/Team Manager about bits that are discipline legal. No martingales. Plain coloured boots or correctly applied bandages may be worn. Grass reins (must not attach directly to the bit from the saddle) are allowed up to walk and trot.

  • Show Jumping Rallies

THE RIDER:

Plain dark coloured (black, brown, navy, grey) or beige/white jodhpurs (no patterns), long boots or jodhpur boots with either long matching chaps or clips, clean and polished. Chiddingfold polo shirt or white/blue plain shirts or top. A PC sweatshirt/jacket or plain coloured jacket without a hood maybe worn. No hoodies for riding. Tagged hat with plain black/brown/navy cover – no pom poms! Hairnets and gloves to be worn.                                            

Body protector recommended, as well as jockey skull without fixed peak.  Remember no jewellery, piercings or nail varnish. Jumping whip no schooling whips.

 

THE PONY:

  • XC Rallies:

THE RIDER:

Plain dark coloured (black, brown, navy, grey) or beige/white jodhpurs (no patterns), long boots or jodhpur boots in black/brown with either long matching chaps or clips, clean and polished. Standard Chiddingfold polo shirt or white/blue shirt or top (tie not necessary, stock optional) or XC colours either Chiddingfold or your own. Jacket not required but if very wet Chiddingfold jacket or plain waterproof – no hoods. Body protector to be worn, if wearing an air jacket over it please make sure it is fitted correctly and annually serviced, as well as tagged jockey skull (no fixed peak). Plain dark gloves to be worn as well as hair in a hairnet and securely tied back. Remember no jewellery, piercings or chipped nail varnish. Jumping whip, no schooling whips.

Competitions with Branch

THE RIDER:

Hat – Hat rules are clearly displayed on our website, these are updated each year. Click here to see the 2021 Hat rules             Hats should be plain with a navy, black or brown cover, tagged with the aqua Pony Club tag. Fixed peak is not permitted for Cross Country. Please advise if you purchase a new hat and we will tag it for you.

Boots – Black or brown long boots or jodhpur boots with either long matching chaps or clips, clean and polished.

Clothing – Beige, white or cream jodhpurs/breeches. Long sleeved white, blue or pale blue shirt with Pony Club tie, Associates tie or PC stock.

Jacket – Tweed/hacking or black/navy. If in doubt prior to an area event or test, please check with a Committee Member or Team Manager. It is always nice to have a team in matching colour jackets. It is essential that the Pony Club badge and test felt is clearly displayed on the left lapel at all times.

Gloves – Gloves need to be brown/black or for dressage – white.

Hairnet – Members with longer hair must wear it securely tied back and in a hairnet.

For cross country you may wear cross country colours, Chiddingfold  XC tops  are available from GG Gear,  a soft peak hat cover is compulsory as is a jockey skull. Please wear a body protector for show jumping. You can see Hat & Body Protector Rules 2020 here.     it is compulsory for XC. Please make sure air jackets fit correctly over the body protector, and are serviced annually, they are not to be worn without a correctly fitting body protector underneath

No jewellery, piercings or nail varnish allowed

 

THE PONY:

  • Leather or synthetic saddle suitable for pony and rider, with appropriate stirrup leathers, irons (Check stirrup irons have 7mm either side of boots), and girth.
  • White square for dressage competitions. Please source Chiddingfold numnahs from  GG GEAR click here
  • Plain black, white or brown for SJ.

Black or brown snaffle bridle, plain leather – with suitable non slip reins. Very minimal bling for competitions although a tiny few sparkles on the brow band or white trim on a bridle are allowed and not marked down. (Stronger bits may be used where they are necessary and appropriate for that pony). No coloured Happy Mouth bits. Please check with the Committee/Team Manager about bits that are discipline legal. All available in the discipline rules on the website www.pcuk.org. Protective boots, neck strap, saddle balance strap, martingale, breastplate or crupper as needed for that pony /rider.

For dressage competitions boots/bandages are not permitted nor martingales. Grass reins (must not attach directly to the bit from the saddle) are allowed up to walk and trot for dressage competitions. Grassreins diagram

  • All polished and gleaming! Including manes and tails. Properly shod as appropriate. Remember most PC competitions at Area are on grass – you may need studs, think about that when shoeing.
  • Manes should be plaited for competition and tests C+ and above, tails plaited or pulled and tidy.
  • Whips may be carried as appropriate for that discipline, spurs may be worn if your instructor thinks necessary.
