Sports & Teams

As of 2018, Pony Club UK disciplines will be called “sports”. These include :

Dressage – “The art of riding and training a horse in a manner that develops obedience, flexibility, and balance”

Endurance -“Endurance riding is an equestrian sport based on controlled long-distance races. Endurance promotes a high standard of horse mastership, particularly in developing an awareness of fitness in the horse or pony and the need for rider fitness.”

Eventing – “Eventing is a competition which needs courage, determination and all-round riding ability combined with careful and systematic training of the horse.”

Mounted Games – “Provides a team competition for all Branches and Centres encouraging determination and all-round riding ability, with careful and systematic training of their ponies.”

Pony Club Polo – “Helps young players to understand the basic principles of polo: rules, riding, tactics, striking the ball and the care and welfare of ponies.”

Polocrosse – “Polocrosse provides The Pony Club with a team competition requiring courage, determination and all-round riding ability on the part of the rider and careful and systematic training of the pony.”

Pony Racing -“Provides an opportunity for all Members interested in Racing to compete against each other and to encourage a high standard of riding.”

Show Jumping -“Provides an opportunity for all Members interested to compete against each other and to encourage a high standard of riding. All horses and ponies can experience the fun and excitement that Show Jumping can offer.”

-Tetrathlon – “Tetrathlon provides Members with a challenging competition – requiring sound practical horsemanship and general athletic ability.”

Currently, Dalkeith and District are running training for Dressage, Eventing and Show Jumping. For these sports we are hoping that we will be able to send some fantastic teams and individuals to the Area competitions this year if you are interested in being in a team or just getting involved, see Teams and also Whats On? for information on training and events, updates are also now posted on our Members Facebook Group.
