These focus on the cross-country riding element and take place on grass through the summer and on all-weather XC facilities through the winter. As we also offer dressage and show jumping as stand-alone disciplines, training for these is combined. See the dressage and showjumping pages and rallies for specific practice and training in these disciplines.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grassroots Rallies &#8211; these sessions are an introduction to jumping solid fences and are a \u201cstarting point\u201d to cross country. They are aimed at our younger or less experienced members, who are confidently jumping solid fences of 60cm to 70cm in height. They are also suitable for our more experienced members who may be riding a young or inexperienced horse. To attend these rallies, pony and rider combinations must be safe in an open space. These rallies are not suitable for riders still on the lead rein.<\/li>\n<li>Eventing Rallies &#8211; these rallies are for those riders who are experienced jumping solid fences and confidently jumping XC fences at 80cm, 90cm, 100cm and 100cm+. They are suitable for riders who may be either aiming towards their first eventing competition, or for our more experienced eventers who want to progress through the British Eventing competition levels. These rallies are also a perfect opportunity for a pre-competition outing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All upcoming dates and details for each rally are published on Entrymaster and can be found on the Calendar page. Entries typically close a week before the rally and group times are sent by text two days before the rally. Contact Sally for further enquiries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>XC Rally Notes\u00a0\u2013 applicable to all eventing rallies inc. grassroots rallies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dress, Tack &amp; Turnout: please see the Useful Information page of the website in relation to dress for all PC rallies.\u00a0 In addition, long sleeves must be worn together with the correct standard of SKULL CAP &amp; BODY PROTECTOR. Please ensure your skull cap complies with the 2023 Hat Rules and has been tagged (pink tag), and that your body protector complies with the BETA 2009 Level 3 standard (purple tag) or BETA 2018 Level 3 standard (blue and black label). There will be a tack check at each rally.<\/p>\n<p>Attendance: each member MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult. For rallies taking place within an arena, parents are required to remain out of the arena while the lesson is taking place.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: var(--bs-body-font-family);font-size: var(--bs-body-font-size);text-align: var(--bs-body-text-align)\">Upcoming Competitions:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>1. Area 5 Eventing Competition &#8211; Sunday 6th July at Kelsall Hill. Classes 70cm, 80cm, 90cm, 100cm, Chairmans Cup and 110cm. This is a qualifying competition for the PC Eventing Championships and the PC Regional Championships.<br \/>\n2. PC Championships 15th, 16th &amp; 17th August at Off Church Bury, Warwickshire (90cm, 100cm and Chairmans Cup)<br \/>\n3. We have now embraced a new format to reflect the changing requirements and available venues. There will be classes from 60cm and will be open to all from other branches and non-Pony Club members.<\/p>\n<p>The competition will also incorporate the cross-country riding phase of our new branch Tetrathlon competition. If you are interested in riding on part of an East Cheshire team, or entering any of the area qualifiers found below, please contact Sally via <a href=\"https:\/\/branches.pcuk.org\/eastcheshire\/contact-us\/\">Contact Us<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Winter (Arena Eventing):<\/h3>\n<p><b>What is Arena Eventing?<\/b><br \/>\nThere are 2 phases to the competition \u2013 competitors will jump a course of show jumps immediately followed by a course of cross-country style fences (solid fences).\u00a0 Penalties are awarded for knocking down, refusals etc.\u00a0 There is an optimum time to jump the course and penalties are awarded for exceeding the optimum time \u2013 so the closer to the time the better. The winner is the competitor with the lowest number of penalties.\u00a0 In the event of a tie the competitor under the optimum time and closest to it will win. Cross country dress should be worn with skull cap and body protector mandatory. Stopwatches are not allowed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/branches.pcuk.org\/eastcheshire\/files\/2024\/01\/Guidelines-Arena-Eventing.pdf\">Guidelines \u2013 Arena Eventing<\/a><\/p>\n<h5>Barrier Spring Festival Qualifiers and Championships<\/h5>\n<blockquote><p>The Barrier Spring Festival is a competition series for Dressage, Show jumping and Arena Eventing. Each Area holds and Area Qualifying Competition between September and February. Members compete at their area competition with the aim of qualifying for the final, held at Arena UK in February.<\/p>\n<p>Levels:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>70cm<\/li>\n<li>80cm<\/li>\n<li>90cm<\/li>\n<li>100cm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2023\/24 Dates:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Spring Festival Area 4&amp;5 Eventing Qualifier \u2013 Sunday 4th February 2023 (Hosted by Chipping) at Kelsall Hill<\/li>\n<li>Spring Festival Championships, England &amp; Wales (70, 80, 90 &amp; 100) at Grantham<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Full details, rules and eligibility criteria can be found here:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/pcuk.org\/members\/ridden-competitions\/barrier-spring-festival-england-wales\/\">Barrier Spring Festival Dressage Details &amp; Rules<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Summer (Eventing):<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h5>Area Qualifiers &amp; The National Pony Club Championships<\/h5>\n<p>Annually, branch teams from our area (Area 5: Cheshire and North Wales) compete against each other, and members can qualify individually for the Regional and National Championships. Area qualifiers are hosted by a branch in area 5 and are held between May and July.
