EAST KENT HUNT PONY CLUB – Celebrates as Volunteers are Recognised at their AGM by the National Pony Club

Two long standing volunteers were recognised for their 30 plus years in volunteering with East Kent Hunt Pony Club at the Club’s Annual AGM on Friday 17th November 2017. The Cubit Awards are just one way for The Pony Club to say ‘thank you’ to some of its most exceptional volunteers, and are given for outstanding service of volunteering of 20 years or more with the Cubit Bar being given for 30 years or more service to the Pony Club. They are awarded annually and take their name from the late Hon Guy Cubit, who was Chairman of The Pony Club for 25 years and President from 1970 – 1979 .The Cubit Bar Award was given to Philip Harland and Mally Spens and presented by the Pony Club’s National Chairman Mary Tuckett, who herself has just been awarded the Equo Events Volunteer of the Year.

Philip Harland, a great supporter of Tetrathlon, has helped many children over the years with the shooting element of this sport, plus encouraging and mentoring them.He was also District Commissioner and treasurer for many years for East Kent Hunt Pony Club and runs, with his wife Claire, our Tetrathlon and Triathlon competitions.

Mally Spens, a former international Show Jumper  and now  President of the East Kent Hunt Pony Club Branch, has instructed two generations of Pony Club members in show jumping and regularly judges competitions.

The awards were a surprise for both of them, each attending the event, on the assumption they were there to watch the other receive their award.  Members had made video clips thanking each of them and saying how much they had appreciated their help. As part of the evening events Mary Tuckett the Pony Club National Chairman then presented the Pony Club members with their annual awards and spoke of the importance of volunteers in all organisations.
