Gosling Cup Design a Cross Country Fence Challenge

The Gosling Cup is a well-established and long-running competition, unique to Area 8. It is open to teams in the southern Branches of Area 8, to participate in a competition that consists of:

  • Turnout of Pony & Rider: in which pony, rider and tack are all assessed individually (marks out of 20)
  • Individual Ride: a current dressage test
  • Team Ride: a special quadrille dressage test, in which all four ponies are in the arena together!
  • Handy Hunter Trial: using whatever cross-country course is available, this includes some simple challenges e.g. opening gates
  • Show Jumping

Each year, the competition is hosted by one of the participating Branches.  It is a brilliant day with spectators, who are also often previous Gosling Cup competitors themselves. We are hosting in 2022!!

As you plan your fences, remember that you should mimic the arc a horse makes as he jumps. When designing a jump, consider what’s good for the horse, not what’s good for the builder. Think safety and jumpability.

As an idea, also think about how we can incorporate “EHNPC” into the jump design.

  • To enter, (up to THREE different designs) please design your fence and send a picture of it to Jo via WhatsApp 07931 504880.
  • We need the members name and age too – VERY IMPORTANT!

  • You can enter up to THREE different designs.
  • Each design gets you 1 ticket to the Crafty Pony Prize Draw – see the website for more info!
  • Closing date by 5pm 21st February (end of half term)

A panel of judges will select their favourites and we will notify the winners and rosettes will be awarded for the best designs.

Please note: We will do our best to try to incorporate one of more of the winning designs into the Handy Hunter Trial course but cannot guarantee that we will be able to follow the designs perfectly!!
