Rufford Pony Club Triathlon – 19th Nov 2023
On Sunday 19th November, 4 members of the Essex and Suffolk Tetrathlon team made the long drive up to Newark Leisure Centre to compete in the Rufford branch triathlon. Being one of the first tri’s of the winter season for many, and the fact it was not a qualifying comp, it was all about blowing away the cobwebs and working on PBs while catching up with TET friends too.
With the shoot phase starting at 9am it was a seriously early departure of 6am for the team. Alfie Lax, Matthew Caley, Annie Ford and Jemma Caley all arrived slightly weary from long car journeys but soon got into their stride and were ready for action.
First up was the Shoot Phase. Matthew and Alfie were in the Junior Boys section and made a good start to their day, Alfie scoring an impressive 920 for his shoot. Annie was in Junior girls and the shoot is normally her strongest phase – every comp has its own challenges and today was no different as we saw problems with some of the turning targets in the heat for Junior Girls and Mini Girls which hampered concentration slightly. Jemma, in her last competition of the mini girls class before moving up to juniors had a solid shoot.
Next up was the run phase – all of the team put in impressive times with Alfie and Annie making good progress and smashing their PBs from the Winter Tri Champs 2023. Alfie taking ten secs off his and Annie managed to shave 11 seconds off of her PB to take Best Run position in her class.
Swim phase was last this time and it was all to play for. The Junior boy’s class was hotly contested with an impressive line up of competitors. Amazing swimming from both Alfie and Matthew showing that their hard work at swim club is certainly paying off as they both achieved PBs in the pool today. Jemma did an amazing swim too and it was great to see her confidence soar in the pool as well. Annie’s swim was solid to add valuable points to her overall score.
It was lovely to be back out with our TET friends from other branches after not seeing some of them since the Tetrathlon Championships in August. With the Qualifiers for the Winter Tri Champs kicking off soon we will all be seeing much more of each other I’m sure!
Tetrathlon really is the most fab sport and it makes lifelong friends – if you fancy getting involved, please speak to one of the team or contact our Team Manager Anita Steel (contact details on the E&S PC website Contacts Page) who can give you more info and detail on training and competitions coming up.
