The Pony Club is a voluntary youth organisation for young people interested in ponies.  It is a Registered Charity.  There are more than 43,000 Pony Club Members in Great Britain, belonging to either a Branch or a centre – there are over 350 of  these, spread over 19 areas.

Internationally, the Pony Club has a membership of over 110,000 across 18 countries, making it the largest association of riders in the world.  Most British equestrian medal winners at the Olympics and World Championships have been members of the Pony Club

The Pony Club’s purpose is:-

  •  To encourage young people to ride and to learn to enjoy all kinds of sport connected with ponies and riding
  •  To give instruction in riding and horsemanship and to educate Members to look after and take proper care of their animals
  •  To promote the highest ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty and to create strength of character and self discipline

Fitzwilliam Hunt Branch

The Fitzwilliam Hunt Branch was established in 1930 and is part of the Pony Club’s Area 6.  There is a close association with the Fitzwilliam (Milton) Hunt, as many members and their parents hunt regularly.   Our President is Sir Philip Naylor-Leyland the Master of the Fitzwilliam Hounds

The Branch has a base of around 140 members spread across our area and so we try to hold our rallies and activities at a variety of different venues.  We encourage our members to take part in all disciplines with rides being split on ability and age at rallies.   We are lucky to have a fantastic group of specialised instructors and trainers on hand who are always eager to advise and encourage at our rallies.  Achievement badge rallies are very popular with our younger members and we hold specialised Clinics for our older members.  The rallies are organised at weekends, evenings and during the school holidays.  We publish a quarterly newsletter which informs members of all our forthcoming events.  A copy of the current newsletter can be downloaded from this website to get a taste of activities over the coming months.

Training in riding and horse and pony care is available to prepare members for the full range of Pony Club Tests.  These are held regularly throughout the year.

During the course of each year the Committee, with a lot of help from friends and parents (both of past and present members), endeavour to run the following competitions:

  • Triathlon
  • Tetrathlon
  • Hunter/Eventer Trial
  • Mini Hunter/Eventer Trial
  • Junior Hunter/Eventer Trial
  • One Day Event
  • Novice Show
  • Novice Xmas Fun Show
  • Team Show Jumping

Schedules for our competition will be available on the website throughout the year

We run three very popular Summer Camps  –  two fully residential  for our Junior members  and Senior Members; and our Mini members (aged 10 and under) are offered the choice of camping for 2 nights or attending daily but at this camp the ponies go home.  These all offer a wide range of riding and stable management teaching as well as fun activities.   Details and booking forms for these are sent out around March each year.

We are a very competitive Branch with Fitzwilliam members regularly competing in Show Jumping, Dressage and Eventing team competitions and are successfully represented at Area level and the PC Championships in all disciplines.  We also have a very active Tetrathlon Team.   Details of how to join our teams area available on the website.

Many of our members join the Fitzwilliam when they are pre-school age and remain active members throughout their school years and beyond.  Many friendships forged through the Pony Club last a life time and it is great to see many parents re-united with their old friends as their children start to come into the Branch.

To join our Branch please contact the Pony Club    select Branch membership and Fitzwilliam and complete the membership process.    We will be informed of your application and will look forward to welcoming you to our Branch.
