The Squad

The focus of the team training is on the Pony Club Area competitions in the summer leading to the National Championships, at the three levels of Open, Intermediate and Novice.  There will also be a Regional competition and championship for SJ (80cm), Eventing (80cm) and Dressage.

We will have a Training Squad of children who aim to represent the Grafton at open, intermediate and novice level at the Area competitions next year.  This will be open to anyone capable of jumping a course at 90cm high.  We are also keen to bring on younger members and those who wish to compete at Regional level.  We will therefore also have a Team Development Squad, for which the minimum requirement is the ability to jump a course at 75cm high.  We suggest a minimum age of 10 for anyone wishing to take part in the dressage but this is only a guide.
We will be picking the squads in April so, if possible, please do come along to some training before then if you are interested in putting yourself forward. Dedicated training will start after this.
The training rallies will mainly be held on Sundays and during the winter months are open to any Grafton member fulfilling the below criteria. Most sessions will start with 9am rides.

Register for Training

If you would like to be included in either the Training Squad or Development Squad this year please can you email Katherine Lewis giving her your contact details, age, pony details and what levels you are CURRENTLY competing at.

Cost of Training

Most training sessions are charged at £18 per horse and we aim for a maximum of 4 in a ride.  Payment must be made in advance of a session preferably by BACS.  If using BACS please email both Clare Smith and Katherine with details of the payment (amount, event & date).

Eligibility for Area Teams

PLEASE NOTE THAT to represent the branch in Area competitions a RIDER must:

  • Renew their PC membership by 31 January 2019.
  • Be an active member of the branch.
  • Have participated at a minimum of three working rallies since July 1st in the previous year. Attendance at camp counts as one working rally.
  • A HORSE/PONY must also have attended three working rallies with a Pony Club member and for eventing this must be the horse/rider combination.
  • Families & connections must have helped at three of the GHPC events.
  • All horses and ponies MUST have their vaccinations up to date.

It is important that anyone wishing to take part in an Area team has been out competing over the year.  Schedules for local events are posted on the branch website and Facebook page.  Please do let Katherine know how you are getting on.
We will be in touch again shortly with the dates of the winter training program but if you have any questions in the meantime please just ask Katherine or myself. We look forward to building on last year’s successes and having a fun and successful 2019 season for the GHPC.
