Titcywee Junior Camp 15th, 16th & 17th July

Hi Everyone,

Iveagh Branch is delighted to be hosting Junior Camp at Moyallon next week and we are very much looking forward to seeing you there.

Ride lists have been sorted by our rally co-ordinator and we have tried to keep friend groups together as best we can. Please check which arena you are starting in on the first morning and be on time. Briefing on day one is at 9.45am at the top grass area at the main arena. All parents must attend this.

Correct dress must be worn each day, show jacket, shirt & tie, beige jodhpurs, gloves, hair net and no bling. Black, brown or white saddle cloth. No bright colours may be worn riding at Moyallon.

It is optional to plait each day but ponies must be clean and tidy. You will be marked on your tack & turn out each day and more marks will be awarded to manes plaited. Tail plaits not expected or marked.

Tee shirts and jumpers may be worn in the afternoon session and xc colours may only be worn going to dukes. A Body protector and a skull hat must be worn on the grass, xc line and at Dukes. If you do not bring these to camp, your child will NOT be allowed to jump. NO EXCEPTIONS. Parents are expected to accompany riders to help manage traffic on the hack to and from Dukes.

Waterproofs can be worn if it is wet and NO equidrys/ dryrobes with hoods are permitted to be worn when mounted.

Hats must be tagged with a pink tag – Shirley McCombe will be at Moyallon on Monday morning at 9.20am if you need your hats tagged.

Please ensure you arrive early on Monday morning, ready for the briefing which is an Area 17 requirement. We have an amazing line up of instructors and busy schedule for riders and of course a visit to Duke’s XC for all children over the three days. Children will remain with the same instructor, but rides will rotate arenas. We have 11 rides so therefore not all groups will get time on the XC line but the younger groups will get time on the steps/ hill on the grass which they get more enjoyment from. I have tried to accommodate everyone so please do not ask to change arenas etc

No trailers or small horse vans are permitted to park up at top stoned area as this must be left free for lorries. Please park on grass starting at bottom and be sensible as we have 68 children and therefore alot of trailers to fit in.

There will be no onsite catering for parents/guardians/siblings etc so packed lunch will be required and you may access the kitchen to make tea & coffee. No other cooking allowed bar preparing instructor lunches.

Skinners ice cream van will be onsite each day during lunch time.

All rides will be focusing on dressage during their badge work over Monday & Wednesday in preparation for Area Dressage at end of July and everyone will cover Working Dogs mini badge on Tuesday.

Monday plan – if children have a hobby horse, please label it with your child’s name and bring it for some hobby horse racing at the end of day one.

Tuesday plan – We have an exciting Working Dog demo planned. They are highly trained dogs so will be happily going round camp to sniff out some surprises.

Wednesday plan – We will all meet for our group prize giving and then let the kids do a quick change ready to do our first colour run on the grass followed by our annual slippy slide. Floats and water guns are welcome. Bring a towel and a change of clothes to travel home in car.

COLOUR RUN INFO – All kids will be presented with a new white tee shirt & fun glasses to wear, you can wear a hat or wig if you want to protect hair.

Does the colour powder stain clothing? Like any other colour powder, it can stain clothing. Please be aware of this when using the colour powder and advise participants to wear clothing they don’t mind having more colours on them after the event than before! We recommend participants wear a plain white t-shirt. (Kids will receive a summer camp tee shirt in white this year to wear)

Can I wash colour powder out of my hair? Yes you can! Rinse your hair with cold water first to remove as much as possible, then wash using a good quality shampoo. You can also use a conditioner/oil before the event – apply liberally to your hair and leave in for the event. This helps create a barrier between the colour powder and your hair. Alternatively, wear a hat or fun wig!

Does the colour powder wash off floors, buildings and plants? More colour powder will be found at the colour stations and finish so perhaps consider putting down plastic sheeting in these areas? However, Mother Nature should rid all areas of the colour powder after it rains and our colour powder does not contain anything harmful to the environment. The colour will disappear over time.

How is the colour powder made? Our colour powder is made the traditional way, just corn starch and natural vegetable or food-grade dyes. We have however gone that extra step to ensure our colour powder is non-flammable and nontoxic. We thought this was essential to make our product perfect for the modern marketplace and use by children.

Is colour powder safe for children to use? Our colour powder is safe for everyone to use. However, we do recommend that younger children are always supervised. It is very important that all participants wear glasses to stop the powder from irritating eyes.

Siblings not booked into camp are welcome to join in but will have to bring their own glasses and white tee shirt. I will also require some parents to help distribute the powder so please don’t wear good clothes.

Please note we are all volunteers, and we are so blessed to have Moyallon as our camp facility. It would be appreciated if everyone could help clear up and take any rubbish you see home. Please read the volunteer job list and make sure you complete your allocated job. If you can’t do your allocated job please swap with another parent and email your confirmed swap to iveagh@pcuk.org.

If anyone can offer a lift to our wonderful Vanne can you make contact with me or Vanne directly to arrange. It would be lovely to have her presence at camp for the kids.

In the event of any issues arising over the course of camp that you wish to escalate, please do so by speaking to me (Lisa Trainor) who will be available throughout. Please be mindful I am also a parent with three small children so bear with me.

Finally, I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable summer camp.

Your camp organiser,

Lisa Trainor
