Tests

As you’re aware, due to covid we were restricted in what we could hold over the last couple of years and this included our popular Pony Club tests.

We are looking to start reintroducing them now that we can start bringing UK assessors back to the Island. E, D and D+ tests can be done by our local assessors during the year either at local instructionals or on set exam days, but C and C+ tests need to be assessed by UK assessors to keep up to date with the current standards, which we will need to be fitted in as and when our UK assessors come and teach throughout the year.

Please could I ask members to email your name to jdhpctraining@gmail.com who would be interested in doing their C test and who already hold their Pony Club D+, Riding and Road safety and are over the age of 12. Unfortunately, as we haven’t done a C test in over 2 years due to Covid, we will have a backlog and we will need to allow our older members to take priority at this stage.

2022 Plans

Happy New Year!

I trust you all had a wonderful time over the festive period.

As the Committee all get ready to start plans for 2022, we have been reflecting on what we have achieved over the past 12 months and how 2022 should look like for the branch. Despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, and the uncertainty and challenge it has brought to us all, we have continued to adapt to changing ways of running events, some of which have been positive improvements for the future. We have also considered the Pony Club’s Vision “to provide young people with opportunities for fun, friends and learning through horses and sport” and concluded that we should re-establish the traditional Pony Club offering within our branch to bring this vision to fruition. To this effect, we are planning on making some key changes, which I summarise below:

Social events:
We will be offering regular social events throughout the year for our members, which will aid developing friendships off their ponies, provide a relaxed and fun environment with some events being slightly more structured for fun horsemanship learning (e.g. quiz nights). We are aiming to hold our first social event towards the end of January but currently monitoring the Covid position and regulations – please keep an eye out for further information over the coming week.

Visiting instructors:
We recognise that our 3 day Instructional events are highly valued by our members, with our Pony Club visiting instructors bringing vibrant learning exercises and another level of inspiration to our members. The 2022 Vision is to bring visiting instructors over on a more regular basis (Covid permitting!). In addition to the Easter and October half term 3-day Instructionals, we intend to bring visiting instructors over in March, June and September, with Polly Morgan already confirmed for visiting us on 5/6 March. We will endeavour to keep the cost for a lesson with a visiting instructor to a minimum, but they will need to cover the costs incurred by us (e.g. flights & instructor fees).

Mounted Rallies:
Mounted Rallies are core to the Pony Club, offering our members the chance to take part in group lessons with our local accredited Pony Club instructors. The children love attending these rallies and they are a fabulous way to learn without the pressure of competition. We will be offering free mounted rallies/lessons to all our members in 2022. Some of you will have noticed that this has already been implemented when you entered for the 2022 Jan-March Friday indoor lessons, with only the £1.50 admin fee being applied by MyRidingLife.

There will be a penalty system in place for any ‘no shows’ as their slot could have been taken up by someone else, unless a vets note, doctors note or 48 hours’ notice is received (per current refund policy).

Whether lessons are local/visiting instructor lessons, all instructions do not impact the usual camp qualifying requirements – you will need to attend a minimum of 2 instructions, one of which must be on the pony you intend to bring to camp.

Dismounted Rallies:
The dismounted rallies are really popular, providing our members with horse and care learning, working towards efficiency tests, obtaining achievement badges and, of course, having the fun games at the end.

Within the dismounted rallies, we will place focus on tests in 2022 particularly for our members working towards C & C+’s who have missed out over the past year due to Covid preventions. We aim for our visiting instructors to assist on their training and ensuring we get the correct level of visiting instructors over to assess them.

In addition to dismounted sessions for the children, we’d like to offer more for our parents, whether that’s for you to stay on at some events for a cuppa, cake & chat or even receive some basic parent sessions to aid you helping your children with their ponies (course walking, building jumps, leading & loading etc).

Competitions/events:
We have seen that numbers for some of our events have been low or even so low it has not been viable to run and we have had no option but to cancel events due to the lack of support. We recognise that this is likely to be a mixture of new combinations in 2021 feeling not ready to be out competing, the “Covid effect” of people not wanting to do something every day of the weekend or even every weekend, and there being too much on offer over the weekend to choose from which has naturally diluted the numbers.

In reflection of 2021 and in line with our new Vision, we will continue to offer our four main events over the year: Easter Show, Summer Show, Camp & Xmas show. We will then look to slot in other fun events such as picnic/fun rides, cross country/hunter trials etc as the 2022 Equestrian diary permits.

We will continue to ensure that all our events are offered to all ages, abilities and levels. We also plan to revisit our schedules to provide some fun/different classes – we’d love to receive requests and idea’s from our members on what they would like to see on the schedules.

Non-members:
We will look to open some of our events back up to non-members, but with our Pony Club members receiving full priority over non-members. Camp will continue to remain members only and at the current age requirements.

So in summary, Fun is the key word in all that we offer. I’m forever hopeful that Covid disappears and we can offer more non-restrictive events and establish a new “normal”.

We feel really confident with the revised direction for the branch, and believe this approach will set us on the path to enable our members to hugely benefit from our branch’s offering and develop & reach their goals however big or small they might be. I have every confidence that 2022 onwards will be an exceptional era for us and – underpinned by the Pony Club Vision – the branch and our members will continue to go from strength to strength. I would like to thank each of you for your valued support last year and I look forward to seeing everyone’s achievements in 2022.

Pony Club Christmas Show 2021

We are all very much looking forward to having some festive fun at the Christmas show on 4 & 5 December and, as a wonderful way to end 2021, this year’s Christmas show will be free to enter as our Christmas present to you all!

We have endeavoured to continue to put on events throughout the last few years with Covid, and all of you have been hugely supportive of everything Pony Club has been able to offer – and have helped enormously by sticking within the ongoing COVID rules! As a thank you for your support and a fun way to end the year, we hope everyone will come along and enjoy the show.

We are also opening up the show to non-members (within Pony Club age of 25 and under), who will be charged a flat rate fee for attending. As non-Pony Club competitors are not covered by The Pony Club insurance, they must have their own third-party.

Please enter via My Riding Life on the below link:

https://www.myridinglife.com/eventdetails.aspx?id=363648

There will be the usual Chocolate rewards for participation and we hope to see some fantastic fancy dress too (clearly with some safety caveats!). Please get your entries in early so that we can best manage numbers and entries.

If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me (07797731718).

We look forward to seeing you there for some festive fun!

Camp – Important Announcement

With the UK being red on Jersey’s travel list, the booked UK instructors not having had both vaccines, the continued rise in active COVID cases and having consulted with Jersey Sport & Public Health, we have sadly been forced to reconsider our plans for this summer’s residential camp.

Whilst we are unable to actually camp this year, we are planning to put on a similar ‘COVID camp’ as last year and make the very best of the circumstances we are in.

Our local instructors have very kindly offered again to step in, and we will offer a lesson a day for three days, Monday to Wednesday, then a fun competition day on the Thursday. If restrictions allow at the time, we will offer evening activities where we can. Camp will now take place at the BSJA show ground (and Pony Club field for XC element).

The cost of the 2021 ‘Covid camp’ will be the same as last year at £100. For anyone that has paid in full for camp, the difference will be refunded in the next week.

For anyone that have already purchased Camp BBQ tickets, we continue to hold out hope that Covid restrictions may ease to allow us to hold this event. If they do not ease and we are unable to hold this, we will arrange refunds in due course.

Please email me (jdhpc.dc@gmail.com) as soon as possible, but no later than Friday 9 July, if you no longer wish to participate under the new ‘Covid camp’ format so that we can offer your slot out to other qualified members.

For qualified members that did not apply for camp but would now like to be placed on a waiting list to fill any potential available slots, please let me know ASAP.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email me.

With kind regards
Pippa

Summer Show – Relocation

I’m sure you have all been enjoying this lovely sunny weather that we have been having and lets hope it continues to be a lovely summer!

Summer Show – 26th & 27th June
In consideration to the very hard ground from the lack of rainfall and little rain forecast in the coming weeks, the Summer Show is being relocated to the BSJA Showground where we will be able to utilise the all weather arena and the grass arena which is regularly watered to maintain good going.

This has been an extremely hard decision for the Committee to move the show from the wonderful facilities at Tamarind, but we are conscious of the going and the need to mitigate the risks associated with jumping on hard ground.

Entries for the Summer Show close this Monday 14th June – please get your entries in via My Riding Life before the closing date.
Jersey Drag Hunt Pony Club Summer Show (myridinglife.com)

We are most grateful to the BSJA Committee for allowing us to relocate to their showground on such short notice.

Camp – 19th – 23rd July
Thank you for your attendance at the compulsory meeting on Tuesday evening to hand in your various forms.  Only 5 weeks to go before the fun starts!

We are looking forward to holding camp at Tamarind by the very kind invitation of Mr & Mrs De Putron and, rest assured, plans are in motion to ensure that the ground is adequately watered for the best possible going for the ponies at camp.

Please READ ALL THESE CAREFULLY and return the application form (with payment made online) as soon as possible. We anticipate Camp being busy and we will cap numbers for safety reasons if necessary.

The usual Covid caveat applies – we are planning to hold a ‘normal’ Camp this year, however, we remain subject to Covid regulations permitting us to hold the event and may need to adapt our plans accordingly to comply with any changes in guidelines & regulations.

We are planning to hold a further Mounted Rally on 6 June for members that have not yet qualified or need to be assessed on a different pony – further communication will be released on this over the coming days.

Badges and Efficiency Test Training and Assessments

With us now having some increased flexibility with the COVID rules, we can now confirm that we are able run the pony club badges and efficiency test training on 7 April (dismounted sessions – you don’t need to bring your ponies) and efficiency test assessments on 14 April.

For anyone new to Pony Club, the Pony Club badges start with mini badges, designed for even our youngest members, covering the basics of looking after your pony. Members then move on to achievement badges as they get older to learn about a huge variety of topics in more detail as well as having fun with their friends (and having a badge to sew on to their Pony Club jumper!). The Pony Club badges support learning towards sitting efficiency tests.

The efficiency test structure encourages members to demonstrate what they have learnt about pony care and riding, progressing from the very beginning with E test (for our youngest members), through D, then D+, moving on to C test, and for some of our older teenagers, C+ test. There are still further levels beyond this. Alongside the efficiency tests are two very important road safety badges, mini road rider (for our younger members) and road rider (for our older members) where members learn more about how to be safe out hacking.

If you have any questions or if you would like to take part in badges or efficiency test training on 7 April, please contact Louisa.

Please note the below COVID guidelines which remain in place until further notice.

17/02/2021

Indoor Instructionals and Mounted Outdoor Rally

A slightly delayed start to 2021 but we are delighted to be able to start holding events! The schedules are now available for:
•Friday indoor lessons (first Friday is 26 Feb for Pre-Mini & Lead Rein, closing date this Friday); and
•Mounted Rally on 7 March at the Pony Club field (subject to ground conditions).

Entry numbers are limited due to Covid restrictions and are on a first come first served basis.

Entries online via My Riding Life (links on schedules)– please contact Sophie Oliveira (sophie.unique420@gmail.com) if you require assistance.

Please note that we continue to take a slightly different approach to the Government of Jersey isolation requirements in that:

where any person that is residing in the same household of a Pony Club Member that has travelled off-island or is required to self-isolate for any reason, we require the household traveller(s)/isolating person(s) to have received their final negative Covid-19 test results BEFORE the Pony Club Member from that household attends any Pony Club event.

Covid Risk Assessment Form

To aid us in our Covid-19 risk assessment process, the attached Covid-19 Assessment Form needs to be completed and sent to us and in advance of the Pony Club member attending their next JDH Pony Club event. To limit the handling of paper etc, this form should be completed and emailed to jdhpc.dc@gmail.com. The questions on the form should be considered for each event attended – if you answer “Yes” to any, please call me to discuss before attending the event.

Numbers Restriction

We need to continue to be strict on the requirement of one adult per member attending an event – we can’t breach this as we will be running close to the maximum permitted numbers requirement. Please let me know if this causes you with an issue. If there is more than one adult/helper per child, the extra person(s) will be asked to leave!

Arrive, Ride & Leave

Please do not turn up too early (ideally only 10-15 mins before your start time) and untack/load & leave as soon as possible after you have finished riding. We will need swift departures to free numbers up for people arriving.

Social distancing

Please remember to comply with the 2m social distancing rules whilst at an event and not to stand at the arena entrance ways (the instructor/designated person will open & shut gateways).

Track & Trace

We will continue to maintain a written record of attendees for track & trace purposes (and for oversight of numbers control too).

We are extremely excited about being able to start up holding events and hope that you will assist us in adhering to the extra Covid requirements for us to be able to run these events and keep everyone safe.

Look forward to seeing you all.

15 November Heights Jumping – Times, Helpers and COVID guidelines

The helpers list and class times for Sunday’s heights competition at the indoor school have now been sent out – please contact Hayley should you have any queries.

Entries for this event are extremely high, which is fabulous but this does mean that we need to implement the below measures to manage and comply with Covid guidelines. We should be grateful if you would kindly read and adhere to these to aid us in running the event (if we do not comply with the Covid guidelines, we may be prevented from continuing to holding events for the club, so please do help us by following the below):

Covid assessment form – if not already completed and returned, please complete and return the Covid form in advance of Sunday

Numbers restriction – as per the schedule and previous emails, we need to be strict on the requirement of only one adult per competitor attending the event – we cannot breach this as we are running close to the maximum permitted numbers requirement. Please let us know if this causes you with an issue. If there is more than one adult/helper per child, the extra person(s) will be asked to leave!

Track & Trace – please ensure that, on arrival, you report into Sarah Latham for track & trace purposes (and for her oversight of numbers control too).

Class presentations – There will be no formal presentations in the arena after each class – Sadly we are needing to implement the UK way of no presentations being held to help manage social distancing, class times and people leaving timely to help the numbers. We will however announce class placings in the collecting ring whilst the course is being built for the next class, but please do not wait for the results if it is your last class (see below “Arrive, Compete, Leave” note). Rosettes will be handed out/dropped off at your horse trailer/box or if already left, sent to you by other means. Class results will be published on Facebook at the end of the day.

Arrival time – Please do not turn up more than 30 minutes before the start of your first class. Classes will be held to the start times provided in the attached sheet.

Arrive, Compete, Leave – please untack/load and leave as soon as possible after you have finished your round of your last class. As much as we love to see the children supporting and cheering their friends on in their classes, on this occasion we need to ask that you do not stay or wait for the end of the class, as we need a swift departure to free numbers up for people arriving for their classes.

Social Distancing – Parents and children should not gather and stand at the entrance way of the arena – we need to keep this clear and be conscious of maintaining social distancing. This will enable the parent/helper to safely watch their child’s round at the entrance way whilst complying with the social distancing rules.
•Viewing Gallery – Please respect social distancing requirements if sat in the gallery (you may wish to use a mask in this ‘indoor’ area per Covid guidance) and please use the sanitiser provided on your way in & out.

Class running orders – There will be a set running order for each class, specifically set for Covid numbers control. Please be ready to be called in and do not go out of turn.

Collecting Ring – There will be a collecting ring steward (Hayley) and a collecting ring safety officer. They will be responsible for managing the warm up arena, putting the jumps up, maintaining the running orders, ensuring distancing measures in the area etc. Please be respectful and follow any specific requests given to aid the smooth running and safety at this event.

Course walking – Hayley and Debbie will be available to assist the children with walking their course.

Please contact Jan, Hayley or Pippa if you have any queries or envisage any issues in meeting the above.

We are fortunate to still be running these events, so please lets work together to keep the fun going as well as keeping everyone safe.

We look forward to seeing you all there, happy jumping and Good Luck!

Christmas Show 2020

As we rapidly approach the end of a very strange and challenging 2020, we are all very much looking forward to having some festive fun at the Christmas show on 5 & 6 December.

Debbie has had a fantastic idea which the committee agree is a wonderful way to end 2020 –this year’s Christmas show will be FREE to enter! We have been delighted to be able to put on a number of events since lockdown eased, and all of you have been hugely supportive of everything Pony Club has been able to offer – and have helped enormously by sticking within the ongoing COVID rules! As a thank you for your support and a fun way to end to 2020 enjoying our ponies, we hope everyone will come along and enjoy the show.

There will be the usual Chocolate rewards for participation and we hope to see some fantastic fancy dress too (clearly with some safety caveats!). Please get your entries in early so that we can best manage numbers and entries within the COVID requirements. Please enter a ‘group’ of classes, we will then be able to create gaps in between for people to come and go.

Entries via My Riding Life by 20 November (Booking fees for the site will still apply).

If anyone has any questions, please contact Hayley on 07797 744611, or Jan on 07797 798611.

We look forward to seeing you there!

<strong>Heights Jumping numbers

We are delighted to see that we have loads of entries for the 15/11 heights competition at the indoor. It will be wonderful to see you all there! As we are on the limit for Covid numbers, we will need to be very strict about the one adult per child rule, no siblings etc at this event. Please contact Hayley if you have a challenge on sticking to the one person rule. Times will be issued soon and we should be grateful if you would kindly arrive as near to your start time as practicable and be untacked, loaded and gone promptly after you finish to aid us in managing the numbers. Please also remember to complete and email you Covid assessment forms.

One Day Event CANCELLED – XC clear round to be held in its place

With much debate, we have made the decision today to cancel the ODE due to take place on Sunday 11th. Entries had been low and following several withdrawals this week, the complexity of running a three-phase event over two locations means that is it no longer viable to run. We will look to potentially put this on again later in the year. For the members that entered the ODE, we will be in touch to arrange a refund.

In its place, we will be holding a clear round ‘pick a fence’ over the XC course to allow as many members as possible a chance to practice over the full XC course (hopefully in the forecast sunshine!). We will have plenty of helpers out on the course to encourage and support everyone to get around and have some fun.

The cost will be £5 per round, payable on the day (preferably by bank transfer (not PayPal)). Jumps will be numbered, but you can choose to jump any height at each fence. The course will be available to walk from 3pm on Saturday so you can plan your routes! We will start from 1pm, depending on numbers, we can send out start times in groups to comply with COVID rules.

If you are keen to come along, please contact Pippa. Please also complete the form below and bring this with you on the day.

Cross Country Information

As we move into Cross Country events please could you take a moment to read the following information:

Covid

Whilst in Normal circumstances spectators would be very welcome, it is essential that we comply with government Covid guidelines for sporting activities, therefore only 40 people are permitted to be at the event at any one time so please stick to your allocated times. We anticipate only one adult will accompany each child and for track and trace purposes we are required to log attendees so please let Sarah (lathamjsy@gmail.com) know who will be accompanying your child.

Medical Armbands

It is the competitor’s responsibility to wear a PC/BE medical armband during the cross-country phase, if they have a medical condition such as diabetes, long-term medications or allergies. It is not compulsory for competitors without any medical conditions to wear a medical armband.

Hats
For cross-country riding including Eventing, Tetrathlon, Horse Trials, Pony Racing (whether it be tests, rallies, competition or training) and Mounted Games competitions, a jockey skull cap must be worn with no fixed peak.

Body Protectors/Air Jackets

The Pony Club does not make the use of body protectors compulsory, except for all Cross Country riding and Pony Racing whether it be training or competing. If a Body protector is worn for any Pony Club activity it must meet BETA 2009 Level 3 standard or BETA 2018 Level 3 standard.

If a rider chooses to wear an air jacket in Cross Country or Pony Racing, it must only be used in addition to a normal body protector which meets the BETA 2009 Level 3 standard or BETA 2018 Level 3 standard.

The 2020 Hat Rules and Body Protector Rules can be found on the information page; please contact Sarah Latham if you have any queries.

Jewellery
No jewellery is allowed for safety reasons, other than medical jewellery or wristwatch.
In the event of a person being unable to remove permanent jewellery, it must be adequately protected by being covered by a sticking plaster or other appropriate material prior to presenting at tack check. The wearing of such jewellery while competing is at the risk of the member / parent / guardian.

September Newsletter

The Newsletter for September is now available on the Newsletter page with all the dates for this month and next month. Cubbing starts soon so it would be lovely to see some of you out there enjoying the countryside. Look on the website for the rules of hunting before you come. We have loads of names for the XC instrcution next weekend and so will be being very strict about the one parent per child rule.

Cross Country Instructional 13 September Times

Please find below the times for the lessons on Sunday 13 September. These have been VERY popular and we have had to put extra groups on and get extra instructors. It also means we are close on COVID numbers. We ask at each event that children are escprted only by one parent but this has often been ignored. We must INSIST that only one parent per child attends this event. If there are more you will be asked to sit in the car. I’m sure you understand that these are not our rules but the government and if we are caught breaching them we will be closed down and not allowed to hold anymore events for your children.

Looking forward to starting the XC season

DC retirement and appointment

Please see the blow message from your DC:

Dear Member

I am writing to you all today to let you know that I will be stepping down as DC from 1 October 2020. I feel very lucky to have fulfilled this role for the past 5 years and have had a fantastic time, but feel it is the right time for me to hand the reins over to someone else. You will not however be rid of me completely as I will, once we obtain Head Office approval, be remaining on the committee as treasurer and to continue to support the club and our new DC. I am also hoping I will have more time for instructing, judging and course building!

I am very pleased to announce our new DC, again subject to Head Office approval, will be Pippa Webster. I am sure most of you know Pippa who has a huge wealth of equestrian experience and I am convinced will lead the club forward in an energetic and positive way. I’m sure you will all give Pippa the same support you gave me and I wish her the best of luck.

Lastly I would like to thank you all for the great fun and experiences you have shared with me during my time as DC – it has been a privilege and left me with so many great memories of you and your lovely ponies. Many thanks for your support over the years and here’s to many more years of wonderful Pony Club times.

See you all soon I’m sure
Debbie

July Clear Round

Please find details for our second event back on the schedule and entry forms page! The schedule is long and detailed with lots (and lots) of rules and information. You need to READ IT ALL. There are 2 pages!

If we get full numbers (15) for classes we will extend the times slightly to avoid the risk of too many at the field at once. Entries are first come, first served and we will close classes. Entries must be accompanied by payment.

The June Newsletter is now available on the Newsletter page.

I hope this finds you all well and starting to enjoy a little more freedom again as lockdown is relaxed a little. As you know this has allowed us to sort out some lessons next weekend so I look forward to seeing some of you there. In the meantime stay safe and enjoy the lovely weather.

04/06/2020

We’re back – a little!

Some of you may be aware that next weekend June 13/14 should have been our Summer Show. Unfortunately we are not yet in a position to start competing again yet. However, we do feel we can start some instruction so what better weekend to start it on!

So next weekend we will do instructionals at the Pony Club field. These will be predominantly flat lessons, maybe with a little bit of pole work depending on ability of members and sanity of ponies on their first outings.

We have much to sort in relation to government guidelines for group sizes, distancing, first aid etc. which we are currently working on and will update you in due course.

In the meantime please forward your names to Hayley on hayleywalters136@gmail.com if you are interested just so we can get an idea of numbers. Once we are sorted, payment will need to be made IN ADVANCE and we will send you details on how we would like you to do that.

Looking forward to seeing you all again soon – from a distance!

Hunter Trial update – Coronavirus

With UK equestrian events being cancelled and the situation in respect of Coronavirus rapidly evolving here in Jersey, we feel it is in the best interests of all to cancel the hunter trial competition this weekend to avoid having a large number of people in one place for an extended period of time.

With a huge effort having gone into setting up the course, Hayley has very kindly offered to teach instead and therefore we are able to make good use of the course and put on an instructional in place of the competition. Thank you to Hayley!

Please can you let Louisa know ASAP if you entered and are happy to switch to the instructional (ideally by return) so that Hayley can organise groups. If you did not enter the hunter trial, but would like to attend the instructional, again, please let me know ASAP and we will do our best to accommodate as many of you as possible.

Please either e-mail Louisa at louisabonney@axiocs.com, or message on messenger or mobile at 07797821695

We will aim to send times out on Thursday. Please note, we ask that helpers are restricted to one per rider. Please can the helper be prepared to assist/lead (as necessary) and help their child during the session so that people can maintain a sensible distance from each other.

Thanks to everyone for their understanding as we all find our way through this unprecedented situation. If anyone has any questions, please let me know.

13/03/2020

Easter Egg Jumping

The Easter Egg jumping schedule is now on Horse Events, please follow the link below to enter. We have kept the entry fee at £5 per class (less than the Chistmas Show) as there is the booking fee to pay. Our intention is to do this for shows where there are lots of classes to enter and therefore a higher booking fee, so that there is no real extra cost to you the member.

As far as Covid-19 is concerned we will continue to go ahead with our events but monitor government advice and act in line with any recommendtions.

Hunter Trial – additional information

Here is some additional information about the Hunter Trial. Entries close by 15 March at the normal price of £8, thereafter there is a late entry fee (£12) option on line until 20th. Entries will be taken on the day if time allows at £15.

At our meeting last night we looked at Horse Events again as some people wish to enter the same height twice. We believe this will work fine and you just add in the notes section that your second round will be HC. There will be the option to upgrade on the day as normal or add a class on the day if you only entered one originally but this will be at the late entry fee.

If anyone is struggling with Horse Events for this competition please contact Louisa on 07797 821 695.

https://www.horse-events.co.uk/horse-events/jersey-drag-hunt-branch-of-the-pony-club-fun-hunter-trial-open-to-jersey-drag-hunt-only/

Remember you must have crash hat, body protector and number bib with your number in it. You may wear XC colours if you have them. If you don’t have a PC or BSJA number let me know. If your hats need tagging please take them along to the course walk or bring them to the caravan before you get on.

Please get your entries in ASAP to help with planning.

3 Day instructional

Please find attached the link for the Easter 3 Day Instruction application form on Horse Events.

Please get your names in ASAP as numbers are limited. Please contact Hayley with any offers of coffee/lunch etc.

It really is very straight forward to register. Go to “horse-events.co.uk” , click register, fill in the required info and click register now – it literally takes 2 mins – but don’t panic but if you do have any problems please contact either Sarah Latham on lathamjsy@gmail.com or Sophie Oliveira on sophie.unique420@gmail.com. Once you have registered look under Events, Hunter Trial and scroll down till you get to our event. All the info is then on there! Please find below the rules for the Hunter Trial.

Hunter Trial General Rules & Scoring

All competition entries and instructionals will be using this system from now on!

Good Luck!

Pony Racing

Unfortunately due to the Race Club already having sorted their meets for the season, there will not be an opportunity for pony racing this year, but we will push for doing a race in April 2021 if we can get enough of you, so please keep that in mind. Jockeys must be aged 9-15 years.

However, we have been given the opportunity to have a go on the practice track at Les Landes race course.

Because of the weather we are not sure of date yet but hopefully in the Easter holidays, so a bit more time to make sure your ponies are fit. I know some of you may be away so let Viv know your dates & we’ll try our best to put it on when your back.
Those who have shown interest in racing Viv has your names down already but anybody else who is interested please let Viv know on vivbenest@icloud.com There is still time to put down names if you want to take part.

Dismounted Rally – this Saturday

I am pleased to say that the dismounted rally is going ahead this Saturday.

Please can everyone that is attending come in ‘non-yard’ clothes (I.e. please don’t come straight from your yard, come in clean clothes). And please wear boots that can be walked through a disinfectant foot bath.

We continue to be cautious to minimise any remaining risk following the recent strangles outbreak.

If anyone that has put their name down can no longer attend please let me know (or vice versa!).

If you have been in contact with a horse that may have had contact with a horse affected in the recent strangles outbreak, or are concerned in any way, please give myself or Debbie Cawley a call.

Bowling Saturday Night

It was lovely to see so many of you having fun at the bowling social on Saturday night. I hope you all enjoyed it.

Unfortunately, there were two incidents which I need to bring to your attention

1) There was a mess caused in the toilets by wet paper towels being stuck to the ceiling
2) Slush puppies were taken down to the area by the lanes and spilt.

I am sure you all appreciate that if a venue associates mess or rule breaking with a booking in Pony Club’s name, we will not be welcome back to those places. The bowling was very busy on Saturday and hopefully none of you are responsible for these incidents and we can continue to enjoy socials as a club and have lots of fun together.

Dismounted Rally Postponed

With a confirmed strangles case being reported by New Era yesterday, we have decided to postpone the planned dismounted rally from this Saturday to the 22nd February. We can revisit based on advice nearer that time.

New Era have posted information on their Facebook page and will provide updates.

All about Camp at Parents Meeting

At the parents meeting and bowling on 15 February, we will also be having an “All about Camp” session. During this we will explain to those who haven’t been before, what exactly is involved and how you qualify.

We will explain help duties required from parents and how the rides and teams are drawn up and the sort of timetable you can expect.

We would also like to hear from the children who have been to camp before about any ideas they may have as to things to do in camp week or changes they think would make camp better.

Remember camp is for your children so we would love to hear any input or ideas so please come along and speak to us.

Diary Dates 2020

Diary dates are now updated for 2020 on the Diary Dates page. There are 2 lots of diary dates; one for all equestrian clubs on the Island and the other is just the Pony Club Events. There are some difference between the 2, as is inevitable when trying to sort so many dates. Where there are differences the Pony Club only one is the most accurate.

Anniversary Ball

Please find below an invitation to buy tickets for the Anniversary Ball and Awards Evening on 7 March at the Radisson. We were due to hold this ball in November to tie in with the UK celebrations for Pony Club’s 90th year, but for various reasons, especially a broken Bucking Bronco we decided to postpone.

Two years ago this event was a sell out and the kids had an absolutely fab evening. It is a lovely opportunity for the girls to put on a pretty dress instead of jodhpurs and our boys looked gorgeous in bow ties. This year it will have the added excitement of the Annual Awards and Points trophies.

Lots of people requested we held another ball so please send your names through to Anne so we can gauge numbers. If you have anything you can donate as a raffle prize that would also be grateful received.

Now that the heavy rain has stopped (for now!) and the fields are dryer, we need to clear the remaining jumps and other bits & bobs left at Tamarind.

Anyone who has been at camp, JAS, one day event, 3 day instructional etc at Tamarind and has not yet helped clear, could you please come to Tamarind this Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm to help clear the last few bits. If you have already helped you are welcome to help again!

Christmas Show

Please find below the number of entries per class for this weekend to help you with timings. As you can see Saturday is very busy and there are no late entries. We will accept late entries Sunday (£10) – please let Jan know if you are planning on coming so we can keep an eye on numbers. We will keep Facebook updated on each day.

We are aiming to leave space at the end of the school on Saturday, so the little ones will be able to stand under cover out of the rain, so don’t worry too much about the forecast! We want smiling small people! It will be busy so please park sensibly. Lorries/trailers only in main car park. Christmas outfits encouraged. (With tagged hats and proper boots)

Non-Members you MUST have signed the non-membership form BEFORE you mount. Those of you without numbers please come to the caravan on arrival. The canteen will be there and the final loose change challenge so bring all your silver. We will also do the last two 100 club drawers. Fancy dress winners each day will draw the numbers!

Please contact Hayley (07797 744 611) or Jan (07797 798 611) with any queries.

Many thanks

The results for the heights jumping held on 17th November, are now available on the Results page.

Pony Club Ball and awards evening 2020

Come along to the Pony Club Ball and Awards evening on 7 March 2020.

For various reasons we moved our ball to 7 March 2020 still at the Radisson. Two years ago when we held a ball it was a fantastic evening with calls from the children to have one every year. This year we will also be presenting our annual awards for Overall Points, Most Improved and Member of the Year at this event. It promises to be a fun evening with lots of surprises and things to do!

Please contact Anne on anne@jerseyhost.net to buy your tickets.

Entries to go to Jan Richardson at Bayview!

30/10/19

Cross Country Clear Round

Please find below a course plan with jump descriptions for the XC clear round on Sunday. Please note this will be run as a Pick-a-Fence clear round, which means where there are options of fences you may choose which one you jump. You will see on the plan what we would expect each class to be jumping, so ideally that is what you should aim for.
The course must be walked on Saturday afternoon after 2.30pm or BEFORE 10am Sunday, but once the jumping starts you will not be allowed to walk. There will be copies of the course plan in the caravan.
Dress code is not competition, dark jods are fine, as it is clear round but you MUST have crash hat and body protector. If you do not use a martingale/breastplate you must have a neckstrap.
Please park sensibly and neatly so we can fit everyone in. There has been a lot of rain and we did have a couple of bigger lorries get a bit stuck last w/e. Please park lorries on the track as much as possible. It is also important to keep the rope up across the entrance so if we do have a loose horse it can’t get out.
Please let me know anymore entries to gauge numbers, but entries and payment on the day is allowed.

90th Anniversary Ball

As most of you know The Pony Club is 90 years old this year and there is a big ball going on in London on 1st November. As we can’t all go trotting off to London, we are holding our own Jersey ball at the Radisson on the same night, as has been advertised in the newsletter.
Those of you who came to our ball 2 years ago will remember what a fab night is was. It is designed especially with children in mind, obviously, but we do expect our young members to be supervised. It was a great evening for adults too especially those who braved the Bucking Bronco!!
Please apply for tickets to Anne as soon as possible so we can confirm numbers with the Radisson. Please also direct any queries to Anne as Debbie is away with limited Wi-Fi Access.

Looking forward to seeing you all there in your posh frocks and dancing shoes!

Friday Evening Indoor Instructions

If you want to do more then one lesson, please let Hayley know and we will fit you into a suitable group if it is not filled.
We also notice with those lessons that are early on are better supported and then people forget about the later ones. Please put a note in your diary or put the application form somewhere obvious to remind you. We have changed the application dates to try to help this so you no longer have to apply 2 months in advance.

Remember the clock is already ticking for Camp 2020 instructional qualifications!!!!

Summer Show and 100 Club

Well what a great Summer Show we had this year. Lots of great riding and smiling children. Although the weather was unkind to us on Saturday, Sunday was a fab day and everyone looked to be having a lovely time.
Huge thanks as always to my committee, it takes a lot of work to run a show like that so thanks to them and to all the helpers, judges, builders, sponsors and to Mr & Mrs De Putron for the use of Tamarind, which was a great venue.
Well done to all the class winners and to the points winners, Amber Webster, Claudia Kemp, Beau Richardson and Jayme Latham and Congratulations to Karen Dufty on being awarded her Cubitt award for 20 years service to Pony Club.
I did have a couple of shields not collected. That were either for class 27 or 28 Pony and Hound (Jayme or Claudia) and class 41 or 42 (Nigella or Claudia). Please let me know if these are yours (I’m guessing Claudia?). Also is there anyone who didn’t collect all their prizes?
Well done to everyone and onto Camp next

Combined Training

We have changed the date of our Combined Training Dressage and Show jumping event as it clashed with the La Fontaine Dressage and it seems a bit mad to have two dressage events on the same day. There was also an issue with man power due to so many other events that day. We will therefore hold our event on the 26th May starting at 10am at the Pony Club Field. There are no other junior events that day.
Please find the entry form available on the Schedules and Entry Forms page. Please send your entries in as soon as possible. There are NO LATE ENTRIES for this event as dressage times need to be done in advance.

Hunter Trial Sunday

Having just been up at the field finishing off the course, we have made the decision to postpone to Saturday 23rd. The forecast is very wet over night Saturday and wet and windy Sunday and while we think children should be able to ride in all weathers, we are struggling to keep the jumps up in the wind and we do not want to risk trashing the field so early in the year, with the 3 day and Easter Egg jumping. All entries and help duties will be transferred to Saturday 23rd unless we hear otherwise. Entries will re-open if you haven’t entered. We will start at 9.30 on 23rd. If you entered 2 classes you will have to jump the lower one first. Please mail me on “ponyclubdcjersey@gmail.com” with any queries.

14/03/19

Fundraising

As those of you at the parents meeting heard, we need to do some major fundraising this year after our very expensive year last year with new fencing at the field and huge investment in Cross Country jumps. We have two fundraisers which we hope you can support.

Loose Change Challenge

We will helpfully rid you of all that heavy annoying change in your pockets. Loose Change Challenge Flyer

100 Club

We have set up a 100 club. Tickets will be £25 each, with draws at Easter Egg jumping, Summer Show, Camp, One Day Event, Hunter Trial (Nov) and Christmas Show. Prizes will be £60, £40 and £25. We will need to sell all 100 tickets though to make it work! If every member buys one we will be off to a good start. In order to do the first draw at the Easter Egg jumping (20 April) we need to sell all the tickets before then so please be quick in your reply. Please reply to this address how many tickets you would like and if you have any specific number requests. (Numbers held on a first come first served basis). We will collect the money when we give you your ticket(s)

Please support the club so we can continue to invest for the benefit of the children!

URGENT Sunday’s Mounted Rally – Change to venues

Due to the rain we have had, and the further rain that is forecast, we are moving the lessons away from the Pony Club field as we think while we may get all the trailers/lorries in, we do not think we will get them all out again! We have made the decision to do this now rather than Saturday night so people have time to re-organise.
The new venues are Bayview (Jan Richardson’s yard) and Alyson Malzard’s. Please park sensibly at Jan’s and on the common for Alyson’s. Some of you will have had time changes – apologies for any inconvenience – but it is the only way we can fit everyone in. We have re-organised groups as much as possible to suit box shares etc.

Any queries please email Debbie.

For those of you newer to Pony Club, Mini badges are aimed at our younger members (more suitable for children up to around 11 years old) with achievement badges being aimed at our older members. There is no hard and fast rule on ages, but children will be grouped appropriately at each rally for the areas we are planning to cover.

There are lots and lots of badges! If you would like to see more of what is available, this flyer from the Pony Club shows all of the badges available.

http://www.pcuk.org/uploads/achievement_badges/Achievement_Badge_Leaflet_2017_Web.pdf

On here you will see that members can earn their ‘gold’ mini badge if they complete at least 14 mini badges, or their ‘gold’ achievement badge if they complete at least 21 achievement badges. Some members have completed a number of badges already so are well on their way!

The next dismounted rally will take place on Saturday 10 November we will run a session for both mini badges and achievement badges. Further details to follow shortly.
If anyone has any questions, please contact Louisa Bonney on 07797 821695.

Shooting

We have very kindly been offered the use of Dave and Emma Hefford’s big “shed” for shooting. I just need to get approval from the Firearms officer which is scheduled for Thursday.

We are therefore planning on a taster shooting session on Tuesday 30th October at 6.30pm. Anyone 8 years or over is welcome. To get to the shed drive past the entrance to the BSJA field with that on you left. At the yellow line turn left. About 400m on left is a wide concrete entrance. Drive up there and take the fork on the right. The shed is at the end.

There is space for parking but please park sensibly bearing in mind there is residential houses there.

If you are planning on coming please let Debbie know by email so we can ensure I have enough adult supervisors.

Equestrian Diary 2019

The Equestrian Diary 2019 for all local clubs is now available on the Diary Dates page. (We will send out a pony club only one in due course) We stick to these dates as much as possible through the year to avoid clashing with other clubs and to help you plan your year!

Looks like another busy fun year ahead!

As most of you know, we made the decision to change Saturday’s competition, as we did not know what condition the ground would be in. However, with the recent rain it is fine to run our alternative test and clear round jumping event.
Please find attached a “schedule” with timings and all the information you should need. Please send any queries to ponyclubdcjersey@gmail.com

13/07/18

Further to the e-mail that went out this week, with the entry form for the dressage on 7 August, I made an error and ALL dressage and Prix Caprilli tests MAY BE CALLED.

We are still planning on holding the scheduled mounted games practices on 6pm 17th July (this Tuesday). If you are plannning on coming please let Sophie know on “sophie.unique420@gmail.com” as we need to have sufficient numbers to go ahead.

Camp Team Colours

We have been hearing lots of gossip about people wanting to know their team colour early so they can buy “stuff”. There are two important things here!
1. Teams will not be announced until the briefing meeting
2. The idea of colours is supposed to be a small addition of colour on competition day to maybe gain a bonus point. Over the years this has got rather out of proportion with so much paint and glitter it became a problem. Remember turn out is an important part of Pony Club and while its lovely to work as a team with ribbons and a some stripes on faces or maybe a coloured numnah or brushing boots entirely painted children and ponies is not what its about. It is after all only worth one point – you earn more if you have groomed and remembered to put hoof oil on!! And you loose marks for no hairnet!!!
We are therefore quite confident you will all have time to pick up some odds and ends after the briefing meeting.

Also an addition to the kit list please bring your XC NUMBER BIBS (with your Pony Club number in) for competition day. If you don’t have one they can be bought from Jan (07797 798 611) for £10.

Hope you’re all getting excited!!

09/07/18

Camp BBQ

Anyone still wanting tickets for the Camp BBQ, please could you let Debbie know by close of business this Tuesday 10th. I need to have numbers to order food. Tickets are £15 and £10 for under 16’s (campers are free!).

06/07/18

August Heights Jumping

Please find available on the ‘Schedules & Entry Forms’ page schedules for the heights jumping in August. There are two different dates as per the Equestrian Calendar- the 14th being the lower heights and the 16th the higher heights. I don’t normally send them out this early, but as the BD youth is now on the same day, I know some of you needed to know. As we have the excitement of camp to come please don’t leave this for later and then forget about it! If we still have had no rain we may consider moving venues.

05/07/18

Camp Help Section A

We will be building at camp on the following dates and times:-
Sunday 8th 2-4pm
Monday 9th 6.30 – 8.00pm
Tuesday 10th 6.00-7.30pm
Wednesday 11th 6.00 – 7.30pm
Hopefully that will be enough! But if not extra dates will be added. I need strong men who can hit the spiraflexes in with a sledgehammer but there are plenty of jobs for mum’s too.
Please reply saying which sessions you can come to and I will put teams together. If you are wanting to pay and not do this pre-camp help please reply also as some of the forms are blank so I’m not sure who is paying. If you do not do any pre-camp help your £50 cheque will be cashed after camp.

Arena One Day Event

Please find available on the ‘Schedules & Entry Forms’ page details and an entry form for an arena eventing one day event event on 4 August at Tamarind. This is open to Members and Non-Members. Entries close 27 July and THERE ARE NO LATE ENTRIES.

There is a new advert on the ‘Classified’ page.

04/07/18

Friday Indoor Instructionals

As your aware during the winter months we hold Friday night Instructionals at the indoor school, unfortunately they haven’t been well attended this year as previous years.
We would like your input to why this may be the case, as we would like to continue with these Instructionals but with only two on the ride, hire of the school and the instructors time it is not cost affective.
We’d like to try and find an alternative solution to run these Instructionals as it is a big part of our members learning and social development.
If you could email Hayley or Debbie with your thoughts to whether we continue with these Friday night Instructionals or any alternative solutions. While we realise this seems ages away, if we wish to secure the indoor school we need to act now or we will lose the option to book it.

03/07/18

Camp Information

Camp 2018 Information Letter

Camp 2018 Kit List

Please find above the Camp Information letter and Kit List for Camp 2018. There are a couple of extra’s so if you are a seasoned camper please check the list carefully. The main new thing is to please bring a NAMED sports drinking bottle, which we can refill rather than the piles of disposable plastic bottles we normally go through.
Compulsory camp briefing meeting will be Wednesday 18th July at Tamarind Camp field at 6.30pm. Please approach via La Route Du Francfief. (see the Information Letter for details).
If you are paying by instalments ALL monies should have been paid by Friday 28th June so if you have not yet done so please arrange to pay any remaining amounts by BACS to Barclays sort code 20-45-05, A/c 60526371 including your Surname Camp 2018 as a reference ASAP.

Hopefully any other queries are answered in the attached documents but please contact me with any queries.

BD Youth Camp

BD Youth Camp 15&16 August 2018

Please find above a flyer for a 2 day BD youth camp in August.

As you know, we always encourage you to practice your dressage, hence why we am sending this to our members but THIS IS NOT A PONY CLUB EVENT so please do not direct your queries to Debbie, but to Amanda Heath (as per the flyer) or Linda Powell who is dealing with this locally.
Please also bear in mind that the second day (16th) clashes with our heights jumping, as per the Equestrian Calendar sent out in January. I do not yet know which heights will be on the 16th (we do two dates 14th and 16th one poles to approx. 65cm and one 65cm to approx. 1m) but will send this information as soon as possible, after our meeting on Wednesday so any of you wishing to do BD will know if you have a clash.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Strangles Outbreak

For those of you not on Facebook, please see a copy of the notice released by New Era tonight. It is very unfortunate for this to happen again and we wish the affected yard a speedy recovery. More information and details will be send out as we receive them.
Please assume all events/tests/rallies etc. are cancelled until further notice. Please keep an eye on Facebook/e-mail/website for further details.

Remember bio-security measures and common sense.

Copied from the New Era Facebook page:

EQUINE OWNERS – *CONFIRMED STRANGLES CASE*
Unfortunately I can confirm that we have today diagnosed a case of Strangles on the island. It is important to stress that this most recent case is completely unrelated to the case diagnosed earlier this year.
This is a common contagious bacterial infection of Horses that will generally cause some or all of the following symptoms in clinically affected horses:- High temperature, nasal discharge,
coughing, swellings under the jaw or in the upper throat which can burst releasing pus, difficulty swallowing or difficulty breathing.
At present the disease appears to be limited to one yard. Isolation, movement restrictions and other management protocols have been introduced and further testing is ongoing. The disease is not airborne but can be spread by direct or indirect contact (sharing feed-buckets, tack etc) and occasionally by people moving between yards. Strangles only affects horses
For the present we would suggest you avoid contact with other horses as much as possible and use basic biosecurity such as hand washing with an anti-bacterial soap or gel and disinfecting your boots/changing clothes if you do have contact with other horses.
A vaccine is available but until the risk has been assessed we are not recommending widespread vaccination.
We have contacted all the Equestrian Clubs and they will make their own risk-based decisions about competitions and events Although it is frustrating, the case at the beginning of the year was kept isolated by swift biosecurity measures and the sensible actions of the islands equine community.
Please see the below information and if you have concern that your horse is exhibiting any of the clinical signs listed above, please contact you veterinary surgeon.
For further information go to: https://www.aht.org.uk/strangles.org/pdf/steps.pdf
Or: http://www.equine-strangles.co.uk/

Canteen Volunteer

After running the Canteen fabulously for a couple of years, Sharon is now retiring!
Therefore, I need a volunteer to take this over. You do not have to be in the canteen all day, everyday, at all events, but mainly I need someone to take charge of the ordering and stock for each event. This person could then organise helpers to run on the day or mix and match. If you took on the canteen you would not need to do any other help duties.
We are currently pricing up having the canteen re-furbished with the current plan being to move to a generator and not gas.
If no-one comes forward for this role, we are unlikely to continue to have the canteen at many events, as we do not have the manpower within the committee to do this too.

I look forward to hearing from someone!!

Camp Qualification

2018 CAMP QUALIFICATION as at 30.04.18

Please find above an up to date list of those qualified for camp. Please contact Debbie with any queries.

There is one more rally on June 3th (application to follow in due course) for those of you who have not yet qualified or those of you planning on bringing a different pony to those listed on the qualification list.
Please remember this is merely a list of those who have attended the required number of rallies. It does not mean you can automatically come to camp. You still need to be a minimum of 8 years old (those between 8-10yrs at committee’s discretion) and of an adequate standard, on a suitable pony.

Camp application forms will be out soon

Mounted Games

It is time for our mounted games training to start once again. Please find available on the ‘Schedules & Entry Forms page, an application form which includes all the training dates and proposed competition dates. It is expected that you will attend all these sessions. Please let Sophie know IN ADVANCE if you cannot make a training session. Please also let Sophie know your availability for the competition dates. It is very difficult to sort teams etc. when we don’t know who is going to be there, especially for the August date where lots of people are away.
While mounted games is definitely meant to be fun please remember you must be turned out correctly for training in a crash hat no peak with a DARK cover, hairnet, no jewellery, long sleeved rugby/sweatshirt and proper boots. You may where dark clean jodhpurs for training. Also there has been a bit of an issue with commitment over the last couple of years. Sophie is giving up her time to train you for a competition and as such, you should come each week, arrive and be mounted on time and LISTEN to what Sophie tells you just as you would for any other instruction.

I look forward to seeing you there. Please contact Sophie or Debbie with any queries.

Great Opportunity for Parent Learning

BHS Progressive Rider Tests Flyer

Please find above information about BHS (British Horse Society) courses being run by Cilla Perchard.
These are a fantastic ways to learn and understand some of the basics of horse and pony care, that will help you support you child’s hobby. Having looked at the syllabus they cover some excellent topics. I would encourage anyone who would like to understand more to go along.
It started last night but there are still 5 more dismounted sessions. If there is good support we could look to cover last nights session later on.
Please reply to the details on the flyer.

23/04/18

Combined Training

Please find an entry for the Combined Training Competition on 13 May on the ‘Schedules and Entry Form’ page. Entries close on 6 May. NO LATE ENTRIES as we have to sort dressage times.
For those of you who have not done this before, it consists of two parts. Firstly a dressage test, later followed by a round of Showjumps. The penalties from each section are added together to give an overall set of results. It’s a great way to do dressage, as you get to jump afterwards!!
Please read the entry form and the dressage fact sheet carefully (which can be found on the ‘information’ page) and contact Debbie with any queries. In order to encourage entries dressage tests can be called.

3 Day Instructional

Please find below the rides and times for the 3 Day instructional. Due to the weather we do have on hold the two arenas at the indoor as we feel the Pony Club Field maybe a bit wet!!! We will hopefully manage to move some of the JAS jumps down there though.

Easter 3 Day Antonia Moller

Easter 3 Day Louise Shephard

We will make this decision early next week and let you know. Please direct any queries to Hayley as she has the application forms and I am away from Monday.

Have fun with two excellent instructors.

29/03/18

Upcoming events

While I know your heads are all full of winning Easter Eggs we have two more events coming up very soon after the Easter Egg jumping so you need to be thinking about your entries now. You could print them straight away and bring them up this weekend!

APRIL 15 JAS
Instead of a tetrathlon we will be holding a JAS event at the Pony Club Field. Our plan is to build some of the course before the 3 day lessons so you can have a little practice before you try a competition. Remember JAS is a combination of showjumps and cross country type jumps judged on both style and time. All the details are on the entry form so please read this carefully then come back to me with any queries.

HUNTER TRIAL 22 APRIL (ignore the 2017 date!)
We re-introduced this event over an arena event type course last year and it was VERY popular. Again it is a combination of showjumps and cross country type jumps also with a slip rail to negotiate. It will be based around the course from the JAS so you can have another go at these types of fences. Details are on the entry form but again please call me with any queries.

There isn’t much time before entries close so please bring them up this weekend or get them in the post ASAP

Camp Qualification

Please find below a list of those children that have currently attended enough Instructionals to qualify for camp. Please understand this does not mean they can automatically come to camp, there are other factors to consider such as age and experience. If a child has two ponies listed they have qualified on both. If a child has qualified but now has another pony as long as they attend one rally on the new pony they qualify on that pony as well.

2018 CAMP QUALIFICATION (l.u. 29-3-18)

The Friday Indoor Instructionals from January to March are not on this list as they have only just finished so these have not been finalised yet. However, these do count if you did them and the list will be updated shortly!
There is also another rally scheduled for 3rd June.

Please feel free to email Debbie with any queries, there are still more Instructionals available if you need to qualify so check out the equestrian diary.

Summer Show Sponsorship

Sponsorship form 2018

PONY CLUB SHOW 16th & 17th June 2018
We are in the process of initiating our plans for the Pony Club Summer Show 2018 and we are looking for Sponsors

The Smartie Challenge

smartie challenge poster

As mentioned at the Parents Meeting, we need to do some fundraising this year for lots of things ESPECIALLY new jumps for you to have fun jumping.
Our first fundraiser is the Smartie Challenge- see the above flyer. At the Easter Egg Jumping we will have tubes of Smarties for you to hopefully win. Once you’ve eaten all those lovely treats, fill the tube with £1 or 20p coins for doing extra jobs around the house or yard. If you fill your tube get another one and fill that too.
We will collect all the tubes in at the Summer Show. Whoever has raised the most will win a prize!
Enjoy the Smarties and have fun raising funds!

The John King Young Artist Award

The John Young Artist Award previous winners

The Pony Club is pleased to announce that it is once again teaming up with the Society of Equestrian Artists to run the John King Young Artist Award!

Now in its sixth year, the competition is open to all Pony Club Members in the UK and was relaunched three years ago as The John King Young Artist Award. One of the leading sporting artists of the post-war era, John King had close ties with both The Pony Club and the SEA and it is hoped that this competition will inspire the next generation of equestrian artistic talent.
How Do I Enter?
To enter the competition, you simply need to paint your favourite Pony Club memory based around the competition theme, which this year is ‘Wild and Wonderful’. You might wish to base your artwork around horses and ponies being themselves at home or in the wild. It is an opportunity for you to paint some brilliant backgrounds, as well as wonderful horses!

Once you’ve finished your artwork, simply photograph it and upload it to our competition website at http://memories.pcuk.org. You can also find the full competition rules on this site.

There are three age categories – 11 and Under, 12 to 16, and 17 and Over. The 15 finalists will be invited to display their artwork at The Pony Club Championships at Cholmondeley Castle, and the winner will have the opportunity to have their artwork displayed at an SEA exhibition!

If you have any queries about the competition, please email Marty Bibby, marty@pcuk.org for further information.

The closing date for the competition is midnight on Sunday 1st July 2018, so be sure to upload your artwork before then. Good luck – we look forward to seeing your entries!

Indoor instructional

When we set the dates for the indoor lessons, we had two dates spare at the end of March for over flow rides. The 16th has been filled, but the 23rd has space and will be for Novice Juniors and Seniors. If you wish to be included on this ride please contact Hayley on “hayleywalters136@gmail.com” as soon as possible as the ride will be limited to 6 spaces.

Easter Egg Jumping

LOTS OF CHOCOLATE TO BE WON!!

Please find the schedule for the Easter Egg jumping on March 30th and 31st at the Pony Club field on the Schedules and Entry Forms page. We all had a nice warm up yesterday so get your entries to Michal as soon as possible.
We have a bit of a problem with numbers at the moment so if you are waiting for one, send your form in without and write on that you need one. If you have an old number that you no longer need, please could you return them then I can recycle them as they are expensive and it would be good to stay using 900’s
Any queries on the schedule drop Debbie a email and she will answer them.

Look forward to seeing you there

Please send your application form in as soon as possible as it is so much easier to sort the rides and put you in the group that suits you best if it is not all left to the last minute.

Heights Jumping

As you are all aware, we have not managed to do any shooting training and so the tetrathlon planned for Sunday 11th March cannot go ahead. However, we did not want to do nothing, having missed so much due to rain and strangles, so we will be holding a heights jumping competition Saturday 10th March at the Indoor School from poles up to 1m. The schedule can be found on the Entry Form and Schedules page.

This will be very relaxed, a chance to get going again after the winter, dress code rugby/sweatshirts. Although entries will be on the day PLEASE e-mail Debbie ASAP if you are planning on coming so I can get an idea of numbers. Also please include offers of help duties. Finally, you MUST HAVE RENEWED YOUR MEMBERSHIP to take part.

If you have any queries, please email Debbie. See you there!

Dressage and Instructional

Also available, are schedules for Sir Jasper Dressage and for an Instructional at Pony Club Field.

We have been working with Jersey Riding Club and Dressage Club to include our members in some of their shows to give Pony Club Members more opportunity to do dressage. Your dressage is VERY important- remember 90% of a show jumping round is on the flat! JDC have kindly agreed to give you free membership for the day to encourage you to enter and there will be special Pony Club Rosettes for the highest placed Pony Club Member. I hope you will take advantage of this kind invitation by the two clubs and support this venture. Please make sure you note on your entry form that you are a PC member.
As there has been some date swapping and extra dates due to various reasons here is a summary of the next two weekends

• Friday 9 March – Indoor – Les Marais
• Saturday 10 March – Heights Jumping – Les Marais
• Sunday 11 March – No Pony Club Events
• Friday 16 March – Indoor – Les Marais
• Saturday 17 March – Sir Jasper Dressage – BSJA Field
• Sunday 18 March – Instructional – Pony Club Field

Please get your entries to all events in early and contact Debbie with any queries

Shooting, Triathlons and Tetrathlons

Just a quick update for your DC on Shooting, Triathlons and Tetrathlons:

‘I have been trying hard and contacted and visited several gun clubs, but as yet have been unsuccessful in finding somewhere that will take us.
It appears the main problem seems to be that most clubs now use electronic targets, not pellets as we do, so consequently they do not have the correct backing to absorb a pellet, as Russell found out when he came with me and got “shot” in the leg by a rebounding pellet! Secondly, they do not have pellet catchers meaning we may have to stand and sweep up all our pellets! Thirdly, the clubs are just too busy to accommodate another 30 children.
In addition a lot of the pistol clubs shoot onto an outside range, which of course for us who shoot in the winter is no good.
I have a couple more options to investigate, but these all take time and need to be fitted in around the gun clubs committee’s. I will not give up as I had 26 names down and we have bought the new guns and targets!
Obviously this does mean we will not be holding Triathlon and Tetrathlon competitions at the moment though. I did suggest a triathlon of Running, Swimming and Riding but no-one seemed very keen. We were going to put a competition on the 3rd Feb to replace the Triathlon, but as Triathlon was a non-equine event the weekend was busy with BSJA so we didn’t want to clash.
I will keep you updated but please don’t think nothing is going on behind the scenes.
Please come back to me with any queries or suggestions.’

01/02/18

JAS

We are holding a JAS competition, the same as we did in November at the Indoor, on Friday 16th February at the BSJA field in the All Weather Arena. Please find a schedule and entry form on the Schedules and Entry Forms page. Please get your entries to Michal ASAP, as this is a last minute decision as there’s been so little on in this dreadful wet weather! Please remember in November I had to close the entries, this event was so popular! Please contact me with any queries before you enter and remember to include your BSJA/PC number.

26/01/18

Dismounted Rally

Please find an application to attend a dismounted rally on Sunday 11th February on the ‘Schedules and Entry Forms’ page.

We are aware some members are also doing Mini Road Rider this day but the times for the dismounted are early enough that you can do both if you wish.

Please remember dismounted rallies are just as important as mounted. You need these to learn to look after your pony and so you can sit your pony club exams.

Membership Renewals

Don’t forget these are due by 31 January 2018!

Forms can be found on the Home page.

Shooting

It’s that time of year again where we start shooting practice for Triathlons and Tetrathlons. This is fairly complicated to sort, as we need several helpers, including a licence holder and the shooting hall. Last year we had nearly 30 children on the shooting list and consequently we could not do this is one session.
We currently have the hall on hold Monday 15th and Wednesday 17th January 6-7pm for shooting practice. Remember you need to have attended two sessions before you are allowed to compete. Minimum age 8yrs. Before we start trying to get helpers sorted, please could you let Debbie know ASAP if you will be coming shooting and if you CANNOT do either of those days. You will be allocated one day a week (Those who have already let me know could you just confirm availability)
The only other option we have been offered for the hall is a Sunday morning where we could try to do a 2hr session back to back (say 11-1) but this will end up regularly clashing with other events. If this would be your preference please let Debbie know.

HAPPY 65TH JDH PONY CLUB

This year the Jersey Drag Hunt Pony Club branch is 65! With this in mind we would like to invite all members, supporters, volunteers, instructors past and present to come together at our annual show on the 24th & 25th June at the BSJA Showground to reminisce on their times in Pony Club.

With this, we would also like to display photos from the years that people may have. If anyone has photos they would be willing to share, please could you either send or scan them to me at sophie.unique420@gmail.com or message me on 07797925333 to arrange delivery/collection and I will ensure these are returned to you all after the event (I am happy to scan any old photos).

We have a lot going on at the show including a bar in our show Village.

It would be great to see as many of you up there sharing stories and supporting the current members of the branch!

Please spread the word!

Thank you!

Riding and Road Safety Meeting

Please see below a message from Cilla Perchard with regard to a meeting to try to help improve road safety for equestrian users, particularly important for our children using the roads. Please try to attend if you can.

‘The British Horse Society Channel Islands will be holding a meeting to talk about general road safety on our roads. We will have The Head Safety Officer of BHS giving a talk and we would really like to welcome representatives of all horse related organisations to this event.
We hope to have driving instructors there and I am trying to encourage some of the big farm managers (re farm workers driving big tractors and machinery) and Philip Blake, jersey road safety officer and PC Amanda Ingram will be with us to talk about how to better educate horse riders and all road users in road use and safety issues.
Entry is free.

It would be great to see as many members and interested non members as possible as I feel that it is becoming quite urgent to educate road users about horses before we have a nasty accident.
I think that if we would WITH the driving instructors and local industries we will have better educated road users.

The event will be at RJA&HS Howard Davis Farm on Monday 19 June 19.30.
Please try to come and bring other road users with you.

Hope to see you there
Cilla Perchard
Chairman BHS CI.’

Hunter Trial

Please find available on the Schedules and Entry Form page, an entry form for a Hunter Trial competition to be held at Pony Club Field on Saturday 13 May at 10am. This replaces the Pony Racing/Combined Training on the diary of events for 14 May.
This competition involves a round of jumping, which will include negotiating a Slip Rail dismounted. The jumping will be a combination of showjumps and arena eventing type fences similar to those you did on the 3 day instruction or tetrathlon. Entries close on 7th May.
Tack and turnout are as per hunting (Click here for Hunting Turnout) which also means your pony should be plaited if possible! We haven’t run one of these for many years and are very excited about doing one this year so be brave and give it a go. Please call Debbie with any queries.

Dressage

We have very kindly been invited by Les Chasses Equestrian Dressage to utilise their fantastic facilities to train, so that some of you would be encouraged to enter their June show on 2nd, 3rd, 4th. The arena at Les Chasses in St John has a fantastic surface, with a full wall of mirrors along the short side. They’re also happy for us to use the sound system for anyone thinking of doing freestyle to music.
Unfortunately, we do not have a date where we can offer this through Pony Club as an instruction. I have therefore arranged that Pony Club members can go up with their own trainers to use the school. This opportunity is available on either Saturday April 29th or Sunday May 14th. Both dates are before the entries for their show close.
If you are interested please let Debbie have your names as soon as possible, as the first date is this Saturday and we will let Les Chasses know who is coming when. It would be lovely to see some of you at the Dressage Show.

‘There has been a lot of confusion over numbers at events last year, so hopefully this will clarify the position. Each combination of pony and rider have their own number. So if a pony has two riders they will each have their own number. Numbers are all to do with allocating points correctly for annual awards, not just for the class you may be jumping in that day.

So if Mikey is ridden by Grace Cathcart, Grace Stewart and Phoebe McCready they will all have a different number.

If you are a regular BSJA competitor that will be your number. If you are a second rider on a BSJA pony you will have your own pony club number. If you only do Pony Club you will have a pony club number. But each pony/rider combination only has one number.

Attached is the list of numbers we believe you will be wearing when competing that pony. Please check them and see if you agree. Most of you should have the oval plastic disc with this number on. If not you will be given one at the next competition you attend. YOU MUST THEN ALWAYS WEAR THIS NUMBER. If you lose your number it will cost £5 to replace it. If you forget it and need a new one at a competition, it will still cost £5 as we will still need to make one up on the day.

I promise its not complicated. just look up your number, bring it and wear it!!’

Camp Qualification

Camp Qualification 2017 as at 14.03.17

Please find above a list showing those that have qualified for camp, as at today’s date and those that have not.

If your name does not appear at all it is because you have been to no Instructionals at all since last camp so you still need to attend two.

This is a list of all children so includes lead reins etc. that would not be coming to camp. It merely shows you have attended enough instruction. The following dates are still available for qualification:

• 5/6/7/4/17 Easter 3 Day (counts as one)
• 4/6/17 Rally PC Field

We are not planning on holding extra “qualifying rallies” nearer the time so please make every attempt to attend these.

to race you need to be aged 9-15 years as at 1/1/17 and your pony must be up to date with its vaccinations. We have previously held races for 138cm and under and 148cm and under.

Friday Instructionals

Please see the below message from your DC:
The application forms for this have gone out and however much I fiddle about with the groups, it seems they don’t cover everyone. If you feel there is not a group for you and you wish to come to the instructionals, please send your names to Hayley anyway and we will structure the groups to ensure everyone is included. This may mean you may need to be flexible on dates as we may need to shuffle some of you around a little, but we will do our best and give you notice.

However, in order to be practical please give your names to Hayley by Monday 16th January. Any names received thereafter will have to fit in wherever we can. These lessons are being seriously booked up and we prefer to only do 6 in a group so first come first served. Please call me with any queries.
