A Farewell to Sandy as she retires as branch DCAfter 14 glorious (?) years, this years AGM saw the Sandy Reid stepping down from her role as DC for the branch. When Sandy set out in her role, her aim was to have a set of show jumps, working hunter jumps, games equipment and a cross country course for the Branch; all of which she has achieved AND MORE.Sandy will continue to work on the new cross country course, as she would like to see it through to completion and as we value her experience and knowledge so we think we’ll let her.As well as supporting individual riders and teams from local PC event through to the PC Championships, Sandy also organised many a PC camp where as chief cook and bottle washer she ensured everyone was well looked after. From everyone involved with the L&R Branch of the the Pony Club from members to parent and guardians from judges to course builder we would like to wish Sandy well in her retirement.

L&R win and great Area 19 Team result at the National Winter Series Triathlon

The National Winter Triathlon was held on Sunday 16 March at Milton Keynes where the Scottish contingent did very well being placed with at least one competitor in the top three of all six classes and winning three of the classes outright.  In fact it was Area 19 who had 3 winners and another 3 in the top three places of the six classes.

L&R were represented by Olivia Burns who bagged a couple of Personal Bests to record a great win with a score of 3338.  Comprising an impressive shoot of 960, a 1km run time of 3.37 (1,138) and stunning swim of 6 lengths and 5 metres in 2 minutes (1,240).  Huge congratulations to Olivia from all of us at L&R.

This all bodes well for the Minimus regionals Tetrathlon in June at Sedgefield and for the Area and Scottish Tetrathlon in July before the children head south again for the National Tetrathlon in August.

Sophie Canty was also competing in the University Pentathlon Championships coming 19th overall in the Ladies Section well done Sophie.  The ladies winner and third were also Scottish Tetrathletes!

Camp was discussed and this will be run at Tannochside this year.  Once again, Seniors will attend at the start of the week and will be joined by the juniors later in the week.  More details to follow on exact prices as soon as they are available.  Places will be limited.

A  huge THANK YOU to all the to all officials,  volunteers,  parents  and  competitors

who  helped  make the Area Inter-Branch Show Jumping Competition at Ingliston EC

such a SUCCESS yesterday; with a special mention for indefatigable  pole-pickers!

Thank you to everyone who turned out to help mend and paint the XC jump at Lawside where the Southside rallies are held. Good humour and great weather followed by a fab BBQ made the day so much fun for all involved.

6 girls from the Southside attended the Eaglesham Fair and produced an excellent 8 minute drill ride for the assembled crowds.  They had to content with an extremely noise PA system, a main with a chainsaw, children with bangers and runaway balloons.

Why not have a look at the YouTube clip and see for yourself.

The performance was excellent and a super advert for Pony Club .. see for yourself.

The Pony Club and Society of Equestrian Artists (SEA) are looking for the next generation of talented equestrian artists!

In conjunction with the SEA, The Pony Club is encouraging its Members and volunteers to use their artistic skills to depict a favourite memory from their Pony Club experiences, and win the chance to have their artwork displayed as a part of the SEA exhibition in London in September.

Full details of the competition including rules and regulations can be found on The Pony Club website.

At the Southside ridden rallies parents, supporter and visitors have access to a little ‘cafe’ table where they can make tea and coffee or get a soft drink. This is usually complimented with cakes or biscuits brought/baked by the parents (usually Mary Neill). There is no charge but everyone is asked to leave a small donation in the Charity box. Gail Smith, the owner of Lawside where the rallies take place, has today, sent a check for£100 to the Children’s Cancer Trust.

Thank you to everyone who has donated over the months. We’re sure the charity will be able to make good use of the money.

Good Luck to Olivia Burns, one of the two Minimus Girls selected to represent Area 19 at the Pony Club National Triathlon Competition to be held at Milton Keynes this Sunday (17th March 2013).

She, with Eglinton’s Stephanie Craig, join the ten older tetrathletes who make up the Area 19 Team. All will shoot, run and swim for the glory of Area 19. We wish them all the very best of luck.

Go Olivia!!

We are looking for PC parents to undertake a First Aid course so that we can have more people able to offer first aid at rallies and events. The cost of the training will be £30. The training will be held at Ingliston and will be one night only.

If you would be interested, please let your local rally co-ordinator know and they will add your name to the list.

What a great time was had at the Southside Christmas rally.  Red noses, numnahs which lit up, pony party hats, tinsel and uber shiny over reach boots were the outfits of choice.  Thank again to Mary for all her wonderful home baking!

Here to see some of our photos from the night.

We cannot display this gallery

A fun night was had by both the Lanarkshire Hunt at Jackton and the Renfrewshire Hunt at Ingliston.  Most people joined in the fun and came along in their PJs and spots.  We had ponies with spots, kids with spot and PJs and some of the adults joined in too.  The mums at Jackton turned the lessons into something resembling ‘The Great British Bake Off’ with a range of cakes and treat which were enjoyed by everyone.  Rumor has it we even got a mention from Jeremy Vine on Radio 2!

Between both hunts we managed to raise  £148.  Thanks to everyone who donated!

We thought you’d like to see a picture of Lindsey McKinnon and Mr Bean who was sporting a very cool Children in Need Numnah.  We’d love to see more pictures from the night if you have any…..

Senior members Katie Gillespie on Dragonfire, Rachel Mansfield on Simon, Chelsea Ross on Paddy and Ellie O’Donnell on Memphis pooled together and shared the long journey to Kelsall Equestrian Centre in Cheshire for the Novice Challenge Showjumping National Championships.  They had come 2nd in the Area Qualifier, so went down with a few nerves, thinking they might be pushing themselves at such a big occasion – nothing of the sort – the whole team were a huge credit to us all.  They were all clear in the first round, and hopes were high that they would do the same in the second.  The undulating terrain and wet ground was a test to all the teams and L&R’s finishing score of 8 penalties was small in comparison to many cricket scores from other teams.  The girls ended up 17th out of a whopping 42 teams, and for sure they will be aiming to qualify again in 2013.  If they came home having learned anything, it would be that you should all give it a go.

More than 100 members, families and friends had a great night out dancing instead of riding for a change.  Don’t we all scrub up well – especially Mr Craig!!  Kilts, trews and sparkly dresses (for the ladies) were the order of the day, and everyone got on the floor.  What great country dancers our members are and such a fun way to fundraise.  Huge thanks to Susan Bower and her band of helpers for such a wonderful spread of food.  To the bar staff and to all the kind supporters who donated so generously to the raffle.

It is such a great family night, we hope that more of you will be able to join us next year.

Olivia Burns, aged 9,  won the Mini Mini girls section in the Winter Series Triathlon

Olivia won all 4 competitions in her age group in the winter series

Aberdeen  where she scored   2694,  Annan 2656, Grangemouth 2592 and Bo’ness 2712, giving her an Average score of 2687

Well done Olivia!!

We had 3 other triathletes competing in this class from the L & R.   Georgia Laurie was 5th in the Winter Series with a Average Score 2155.   Thandi Smith and Holly Rose McCamley also did very well in the triathlons that they completed in.  Well done to everyone.

Branch member Robyn Smith has reason to be happy this week.  She headed for the Scottish Dressage Championships and came home having scooped the Scottish Open Medium Championship with her pony Cloggs followed by the Scottish Advanced Medium Restricted Championship with her mum Gail’s home bred horse Spencer!  Pretty impressive at the ripe old age of 15 – Robyn is a great ambassador both for our branch and for dressage.  She certainly has made an impression on many of our members, as they discover the rewards of dressage training.  Well done Robyn. *********************************************************************************************************************************** Corseliehill Cross Country Competition

Many, many thanks to all the helpers who made this day such a big success.  Jim Ross, John Beaton and their happy band of course builders produced many challenging new additions to the jumps – including a fantastic water complex.  They are unstoppable with their ideas of improvements to the course.

We could not run the day without the jump judges.  Your help is hugely appreciated.  Many local residents who have had children in the pony club or who have connections to the local hunt, or who no longer ride, gave up their day to watch friends and family continue to improve their riding.  THANK YOU.
Our experienced starters, scorers, parking stewards, score collector, and organisers – THANK YOU!!
Last but not least – to all you brave competitors – thank you.
Please check back on this website for details of how you can obtain photographs from the day.

Maureen Millar

It is with great sadness that I share the news that Maureen Millar, long-time friend and supporter of L&R, died this morning, Saturday, March 19th.
Maureen’s association with the branch goes back many years, her roles diverse, her dedication unquestionable. Maureen willingly tuned her hand to whatever was required, whether it be jump judge, dressage writer or fancy dress judge; she was the ring steward with whom no-one would argue, the handy pony judge who offered smiling encouragement and maybe a wee bit of help to anyone having trouble. For many years she was Catering Stalwart, providing food for competitors and funds for the branch. In recent years Maureen was a much loved and respected swimming instructor to L&R’s tetrathletes; her inimitable enthusiasm and drive inspiring each one, and producing a strong group of skilful swimmers. Maureen will be very sadly missed, but always remembered at L&R PC.

We are hugely proud to announce great news of a young lady who has been an L&R member since she was 4yrs old.  Now, at the ripe old age of 12, Robyn Smith has achieved something that every rider in the country dreams about.  She has earned the right to wear the Union Jack on her lapel.  Robyn and her pony Siepke’s Celtic have been selected to ride for the UK in dressage at the CDI Junior Young Pony International competition.  This will be held at Addington Manor over the Easter Weekend.  We wish Robyn and her pony the best of luck and will be riding with her all the way!!

Rachael-Ann Meets Ellen Whitaker

Rachael-Ann Clark,  an avid fan of Ellen Whitaker, was delighted to hear that she had won a competition which would take her and three others to The World Show Jumping Championships in Birmingham in April.

Catriona was the lucky friend who went along, and the two had a wonderful day. They met Ellen who chatted to them about her horses and her experiences.  They were then taken on a tour of the stables and took advantage of their back-stage passes to watch the professionals warming up and preparing their horses for the competition.

When they made their way to their seats they found that they were in Competitors Section, sitting with the Whittaker Family and many of the other well known Show Jumpers.

As well as Show Jumping, Indoor Cross Country was on the program; this class made fascinating and exciting viewing as well as bringing  top class eventers to the show.

The show was rounded off very nicely when Ellen went on to take top honours in the The British Open Show Jumping Championship Final, riding EQUIMAX OCOLADO, pictured above. Rachael-Ann and Catriona would like to thank Ellen for a wonderful day and an unforgettable experience.
