Coronavirus Update

We are very conscious of the developing situation with Coronavirus and we are working with our medical advisor to offer our members, staff, volunteers and officials the best possible advice for coping with the outbreak.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will let you know if there are any updates, but for the time being we are offering the following advice to help minimise risk when taking part in Pony Club events:

Competitors

  • Minimise the number of people accompanying to help and support – one adult per competitor
  • Avoid gathering in confined spaces – taking measures such as queuing for toilets outside rather than in the building
  • Avoid using catering at events, bring your own food and drink to eat in cars

Event organisers

  • Minimise the amount of time competitors spend at an event, for example:
    • Keep competitions as short as possible, for example a single-phase competition for show jumping
    • Provide scoring/results online after the event – either on a website or via email
    • Send rosettes out by post after the event
  • Move as much of the event admin online as possible, to avoid the need for people to gather in a tent/office. For example:
    • Provide print your own numbers for competitors to print at home or allow use of bridle numbers
    • Allow competitors to declare by text once they have arrived
    • Scan dressage score sheets and email them, rather than handing out sheets on the day

The Pony Club Central Office

The Pony Club Central Office is doing what it can to deter the spread of the Coronavirus and have therefore made the decision to run all committee meetings via the online meeting space Microsoft Teams and the staff have been encouraged to work from home when possible. Please therefore utilise email when contacting the office as staffing of phone calls will be limited.

Stay informed

If there are any updates to this advice we will be sharing them on our website and social media pages, so please keep an eye on these channels.

Qualifier dates confirmed for Mini Major

Eight lucky members of The Pony Club will once again get to take part in the Mini Major Show Jumping class at this year’s Olympia London International Horse Show to be held in December. Each Pony Club member gets paired with one of the senior International riders competing at the show and competes in a pair relay, with the time of the Pony Club member deciding the winner.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for 128cm pony riders to compete at an FEI 5 star International show. Some of the previous winners have gone on to great success in international Show Jumping and Eventing.

The eight Pony Club members will be selected by means of qualifying competitions held throughout the UK at Pony Club events. These events will be:

  • Sunday 5th April – Arena UK, Lincs
  • Monday 20th July – Meadows Equestrian Centre, Northern Ireland
  • Saturday 15th August – Cholmondeley Castle, Cheshire
  • Saturday 29th August – Eland Lodge, Derbys
  • Saturday 29th August – Rectory Farm, Glos

The qualifier(s) of the class will be invited to compete at Olympia subject to eligibility. In the event that the winner has already qualified, qualification will pass down the line.

PELHAM update

Over the last few weeks we have made progress on a number of milestones in the delivery of project PELHAM – the move to get The Pony Club onto a new, unified Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.

We have now successfully migrated all centre membership data to PELHAM and all new memberships / renewing members are now being added to PELHAM by the Central Office.

The training phase for centre coordinators and proprietors is planned to start from 16 March.

Alongside this, we are progressing well with the training of the Pilot branches with regular “drop in” conference calls on Thursday evenings. We are in the final phase of testing the new functionality around automated Gift Aid processing, Direct Debit and of course the Member Portal. We hope to provide more clarity on the planned roll out dates for the pilot branches in the coming weeks.

If you would like further information related to PELHAM, please contact pelham@pcuk.org
