Riders compete to qualify for one of three finals in England\/Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>All members need to qualify to enter the finals, so all competitors have done extremely well already to get to the Spring Festival.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>The weather was cold, but bright, and it was an impressive sight upon arrival at Addington to see all the hundreds of horseboxes and trailers parked up, and the rows of temporary stabling, all fully booked, for those staying for a night or two.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>The N&amp;T\u2019s two riders, who had qualified as individuals in the Area 8 Arena Eventing Qualifier in November at Radley Green, and now in the <strong>80cm Arena Eventing<\/strong> <strong>Final<\/strong>, were Rosie riding Uncle Monty, and Momoka riding Knockbridge Just Jimmy.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>Both Rosie and Momoka rode beautifully and within the time allowed, so no time penalties to add, which is always a challenge in Arena Eventing.&nbsp; Momoka jumped a double clear and finished impressively in fifth position.&nbsp; Rosie was clear until the very last jump, the \u2018bogey\u2019 fence, which is 10cm higher and placed as a knock-down show jump at the end of the XC section, unfortunately attracting six jumping penalties.&nbsp; The ultimate goal was qualification for the Animal Health Spring Festival finals being held 28-30 March at Addington Equestrian Centre, Buckinghamshire.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>The day started extremely well with a N&amp;T <strong>win<\/strong> in the first class of the day, a 60cm open non-qualifying class, for Reika riding Lettermuckoo Lucy.&nbsp; Very well done Reika!&nbsp; Competing as an individual in the 70cm open non-qualifying class resulted in a podium third position for Phoebe, who was riding her young horse Romeos Prince, who also finished seventh in the 80cm qualifier.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>Two teams were entered in the 80cm qualifying class.&nbsp; In the N&amp;T Red team, Rosie riding Marmalade, Ollie riding Oliver Twist and Nancy riding Ruper The Bear, finished in a very credible sixth position, whilst the N&amp;T Blue team of Momoka riding Knockbridge Just Jimmy, Eiji riding Pebbly Principal Boy and Rosie riding Uncle Monty climbed the podium in <strong>second<\/strong> place.&nbsp; Very well done to both teams.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>Individual qualifications went to Momoka and Rosie O\u2019B, they will now compete in the Arena Eventing Finals at the Spring Festival in March.&nbsp; District PC, Open Hunter Trial<\/strong>, incorporating the Gerry Webster Trophy and the Wilkinson Sword, at Isleham on 12<sup>th<\/sup> October, 2025<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>The Soham &amp; District Pony Club\u2019s Open Hunter Trial has been a long standing favourite event for our Branch.&nbsp; This year we had 11 members competing as individuals, with nine making up the three teams contesting the 70\/80cm Gerry Webster Trophy and the 90\/100cm Wilkinson Sword.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>For the Gerry Webster Trophy we had two teams of three: In the N&amp;T Red Team were Poppy riding Elmaftun, Rosie riding Uncle Monty and Edith riding Rockyview Hanah.&nbsp; With just time penalties to add to her clear cross-country round, Edith was the highest placed in 14<sup>th<\/sup> position individually.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>In the N&amp;T Blue Team were Phoebe riding Romeos Prince, Momoka riding Knockbridge Just Jimmy and Eiji riding Pebbly Principal Boy. Jumping clear with no time penalties, Phoebe\u2019s young horse \u2018Rodney\u2019 impressed by finishing fourth individually in the 70cm. Momoka and Eiji also produced clear XC rounds with just a few time penalties to add, resulting in <strong>second<\/strong> place for Momoka and 15<sup>th<\/sup> for Eiji in the 80cm.&nbsp; Also competing in the 80cm, as an individual, Nancy riding Rupert The Bear jumped clear cross-country with just time penalties to add finishing in a credible 16<sup>th<\/sup> place.&nbsp; All these wonderful clears resulted in a resounding <strong>WIN <\/strong>for the Blue Team and the N&amp;T retained the Gerry Webster Trophy for another year.&nbsp; Very well done to all our riders!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>The Team of three competing in the 90cm and 100cm classes contesting the Wilkinson Sword were Martha riding Nedalga, Katie riding Alamo Foxy and Hannah riding Kilpatrick Cleaboy.&nbsp; Katie was clear with just a few time penalties finishing in tenth place.&nbsp; Our highest placed individual was Hannah, clear with no penalties to add, who finished in <strong>second <\/strong>place, which was particularly impressive as this was Hannah\u2019s first XC event competing at 100cm.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>Very well done to all our Newmarket &amp; Thurlow competitors!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>Full results can be found on <em><a href=\"http:\/\/ponyclubresults.co.uk\">ponyclubresults.co.uk<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>Pauline Stoddart<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>Eventing Secretary<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-purple-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-3548dce409341b5647ba723f64109cb6\"><strong>Blenheim Palace, Pony Club Eventers\u2019 Challenge<\/strong>, Friday 19 September 2025<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>Our six N&amp;T members felt privileged to compete in such spectacular surroundings, with Blenheim Palace as the backdrop and the FEI Eventing European Championships unfolding. This also gave our riders the chance to watch part of the dressage phase, including former N&amp;TPC member Bubby Upton\u2019s test.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p><strong>100cm <\/strong>&#8211; Largely due to members beginning new stages of their education, &nbsp;we were reduced to just two riders, Phoebe on Tourmakeady Jack and Francesca on High Meadows Topgun. Fortunately, with riders from the Puckeridge and Cambridgeshire Hunt branches also eager to compete but lacking full teams, we were able to join forces and form a mixed team, with the addition of Monique riding Hathaway Strider, and Imogen riding Eli.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>As with all Arena Eventing competitions, the real challenge lies not only in jumping clear but also in finishing within the undisclosed optimum time. The 100cm course proved fast and technical, with our riders having the odd \u2018pesky pole\u2019 and a few time penalties, plus a sat-nav error for one \u2013 easily done on such a long track! The time was very tight and, again, it was a long and twisty course which produced only four clear rounds within the optimum time &#8211; one of which was Katie, who finished in fourth position individually \u2013 very well done!&nbsp; otherwise known as a horsebox! From the feedback received, everyone had a fantastic time and are already keen to try for qualification next year for the Regional Championships, or even step up to the National Pony Club Championships!<br>Our competitors were so lucky to have the help and support of both Katie and Fiona for this important competition and their guidance brought the best out of our riders and ponies, resulting in every N&amp;T competitor being in the top ten presentations \u2013 despite having to ride XC in the torrential rain which made the course very tricky. Another to be ninth in their section was Clara riding Clansevin Gimmie, and final member of the team Georgina, riding Knockbridge Just Jimmy, was the highest placed team member, finishing in seventh position within her section. Eventing 14-16 August 2025<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>Four members of the N&amp;T branch qualified for the National Pony Club Eventing Championships, two each in both the PC90 and PC100 classes. Our riders were very grateful to Fiona and Katie, who were with them every step of the way to support and help them prepare and compete to their very best ability, in this the Pony Club\u2019s biggest event of the year.<br><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p><strong>PC 90<\/strong><br>Our two individual qualifiers for the PC90 were Hannah riding Kilpatrick Cleaboy, and Mollie riding My Nelly. Hannah, despite jumping great clears in both the SJ and XC, sadly did not make it into the top ten prize winners, and neither did Mollie with a PB in dressage and clear SJ, such was the strong competition (these are the Championships!) it was extremely difficult to make the top ten positions. Nevertheless, both riders were a credit to your Branch and both ponies and riders came through the XC finish with smiles on their faces!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p><strong>PC100<\/strong><br>Having both already produced good dressage tests and superb clear rounds in the show jumping, both our riders, Ruby on Call Me Kev and Phoebe riding Tourmakeady Jack, faced the XC course, where some of the fences were already being talked about as \u2018rider frighteners!\u2019 However, no one told Kev and Jack who both flew round clear, making the track look effortless! Despite the frosty mornings, which delayed the start of the classes in the outdoor arenas, everything ran smoothly and the Officials and Volunteers could not have been more friendly and helpful to all the competitors.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>Arena Eventing is a challenge whereby riders must expertly judge their pace to be within five seconds of that elusive \u2018optimum time\u2019 to avoid time penalties &#8211; without the help of a stopwatch &#8211; while also delivering a flawless round over a demanding course of show jumps and XC fences, some of which can also be knocked down. To top it off, they must clear the higher \u2018Joker\u2019 fence at the end of the course in order not to incur an additional six jumping penalties.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>Nine N&amp;T members competed in the Arena Eventing Championships, following qualification at the Area Qualifier held on the 4th January at Forest Edge. They competed in four classes over the two days; 70cm, 80cm, 90cm and 100cm.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>70cm &#8211; Henry, riding Captain Nemo, was our only member in this class and turned out to be our highest placed N&amp;T competitor over the week-end in Arena Eventing, jumping a brilliant double clear with no time penalties, being beaten by just .53 of a second from the optimum time. Podium position as Reserve Champion \u2013 very well done Henry and Nemo!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>80cm \u2013 Two N&amp;T members contested this class. Rosie riding Marmalade, and Mollie riding My Nelly. Both jumped superb double clear rounds and Mollie was unlucky in picking up just a couple of time penalties. Rosie, being inside the time, finished in fourth position, just off the podium. Well done Rosie and Mollie, you both rode beautifully.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>90cm \u2013 In the 90cm we had one Individual, Ruby, riding Call Me Kev, who despite incurring no time penalties, rolled pesky poles, as did first to go in the Team, Florrie riding Clonleigh Pride. Frankie riding Mr Shadow and Emily riding Flying Strait were the remaining members of the team. Faults spread throughout the course kept us out of the placings and not all went to plan, but experience gained.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>100cm \u2013 The Team of Victoria riding Attyrory Mo Joe, Ruby riding Call Me Kev and Lily riding Libertie Lad finished in 5th position. Both Ruby and Lily were inside the time, with Lily being our highest placed rider, just out of the rosettes in 9th position. Double clear rounds were hard to achieve and there were only two from amongst the eight teams competing.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>It was a lovely surprise to see Katie, who gave up her week-end to course-walk and warm-up our riders in the collecting ring &#8211; couldn\u2019t do it without you! Thanks also to our DC, Tessa, for all her help and support given on Sunday.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>Well done everyone \u2013 it was great to see how well you all supported each other, whether competing in the Show Jumping, Arena Eventing or Dressage. Her Team mates, Archie riding Oliver Twist, Ruby riding Call Me Kev and Francesca riding Highmeadows Top Gun, were all a little too impressed by the gallop track and picked up time penalties, for going too fast &#8211; commonly called naughty points! Despite this, the Team finished on the podium, in <strong>second<\/strong> place.&nbsp; Very well done.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>100cm \u2013 With Archie riding Oliver Twist and Francesca riding Highmeadows Top Gun, we \u2018borrowed\u2019 Hettie, a member of the Puckeridge Hunt branch riding Dun Paddy, in order to make a team of three. \u00a0All rode beautifully and were a credit to their Branch, well done!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Sadly, trainer Katie could not be there on this occasion and thanks go to our DC Tessa for her support on the day, and endless supply of strawberry laces! The hard work and training which goes into merely gaining qualification to actually get to the Championships cannot be underestimated. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>In the 90cm our team of three, Ruby W riding Call Me Kev, Phoebe H-M &nbsp;riding Tourmakeady Jack and Martha M riding Roscommon Flash, were sadly not in the ribbons on this occasion &#8211; but all had elated smiles on their faces when crossing the finishing line of the testing cross-country course. Each team consists of four riders, with all four scores to count.&nbsp; Ponies must be 15.2hh and under, and riders on the day of the competition aged under 17, although one rider is allowed up to 25 years old.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>The competition has traditionally consisted of five phases, but this year the Turnout phase had been dropped, leaving four phases \u2013 an individual Dressage Test, a Team Ride, Show Jumping and Cross Country, which included the timed opening and closing of a gate.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>Instructor Sarah Burton very kindly took care of the two N&amp;T Gosling Cup Teams entered, together with our DC Tessa, who had the task of getting everyone to their allotted arenas at the correct time.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>Team \u2018A\u2019 was made up of two sets of siblings, Momoka V riding Lettermuckoo Lucy, Eiji V riding Pebbly Principal Boy, together with Zara K riding Hillocks Rising and Georgina K riding Knockbridge Just Jimmy. Despite the frosty morning starts, bobble hats were soon replaced with baseball caps and sunglasses \u2013 it stayed dry and the sun shone on all those competing in the Arena Eventing Championships.<br>The competition took place over two days, with the 70cm &amp; 80cm classes on the Saturday and the 90cm and 100cm, in which the N&amp;T did not have any riders, on the Sunday.<br>Members of the N&amp;T Team competing on Saturday were:<br>Momoka Varian riding Lettermuckroo Lucy and Ollie Tunstill riding Neebro Bridesmaid in the 70cm, and Eiji Varian riding Pebbly Principal Boy and Georgina Knight riding Knockbridge Just Jimmy in the 80cm. Also in the 80cm class, qualifying as an Individual, Phoebe Horwood-Mead riding Glenayre Knight.<br>By the end of the day on Saturday, the N&amp;T Team were in the lead! But, there were still the 90cm and 100cm classes on the Sunday &#8211; we had no Team riders, but other branches did!<br>All our members rode brilliantly \u2013 four of the five jumped double clears, two of which were also within the time (it\u2019s really hard to get \u2018spot on\u2019 that optimum time in Arena Eventing!) Two riders very nearly gained podium positions, Phoebe finishing fourth in the 80cm and Momoka fifth in the 70cm.<br>And the Team finished \u2026.. FOURTH out of 21 Teams!<br>Very well done to you all, you were great ambassadors for your Branch and Team Trainer Katie was extremely proud of you.<br>The Spring Festival is a great event to be part of, there is something for everyone within all the various disciplines and we would encourage all Members to try and qualify for next year and join in the fun!!<br>Special thanks to Katie and Fiona, who spent the whole week-end helping all the N&amp;T riders \u2013 and, of course, our DC Tessa, for her unstinting support and strawberry laces!<br>Full results can be found on the ponyclubresults.co.uk website.<br>Pauline Stoddart<br>Eventing Secretary<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-purple-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-b13081a6c8b5c73ddfe40a77df2445e2\"><em><strong>AREA 8 QUALIFIER &#8211; ARENA EVENTING, Spring Festival Qualifier<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"container\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<p>Saturday 20th January 2024, Easton College<br>Team Trainer, Katie Barrett, was able to select five teams to compete in the four qualifying classes, 70cm, 80cm, 90cm and 100cm, from the 12 N&amp;T riders competing on the day who were trying to secure their place for the opportunity to compete at the Barrier Animal Health Pony Club Spring Festival at Arena UK in February.<br>In addition to the four qualifying classes, there was a non-qualifier 60cm at the start of the day and Ollie Tunstill riding Neebro Bridesmaid jumped a super double clear, within the time, to finish third.<br>70cm In the 70cm class Ollie again jumped a double clear, with just 1.6 time penalties, finishing in sixth position and qualifying for the Spring Festival as an Individual. Emily Davey riding Cymcownwy Princess jumped a double clear with just 1.2 time penalties finishing in fourth position, securing her Team member place for the Spring Festival. Rosie Coleman, riding Marmalade, despite jumping a lovely double clear, just missed out on qualifying picking up two time penalties, finishing in 7th position. Arena Eventing is one of the most challenging disciplines to compete in, judging the pace to hit that \u2018optimum time\u2019 to avoid time penalties, without a stopwatch, is incredibly difficult!<br>80cm With six N&amp;T riders in this class, five jumped double clears within the optimum time! These were Emily Davey riding Cymcownwy Princess, Phoebe Horwood-Mead riding Glenayre Knight, Archie Tunstill riding Oliver Twist, Eiji Varian riding Pebbly Principal Boy, and Georgina Knight riding Knockbridge Just Jimmy. Momoka riding Lettermuckoo Lucy also jumped a lovely double clear, with just 0.8 time penalties. Qualifiers from this class were Georgina, who finished second, and Eiji, both securing their Team places, plus Phoebe who qualified as an Individual.<br>90cm Six N&amp;T riders also in this class, with Phoebe finishing the highest of the N&amp;T competitors in sixth position. Sadly, no qualifiers in the 90cm.<br>100cm Just one N&amp;T rider, Lily Wittich, who rode two horses, Billy and Elmo. Unluckily they each had a pole down, Billy just missing out on qualifying by one place, finishing in fifth and eighth positon respectively.<br>So, to the Team results &#8211; From the 32 Teams competing on the day \u2013 the N&amp;T Terriers Team WON!!! Very well done Emily, Momoka, Eiji and Georgina \u2013 you\u2019re off to the Spring Festival at Arena UK!
