The North Norfolk Pony Club runs three camps in the summer holidays with the aim of improving the children’s riding and knowledge of pony and stable care. On top of that its all about having a lot of fun! If you are unsure which camp your child would enjoy most please ask Emma Papworth, our District Commissioner who will be happy to help.
INTRODUCTORY CAMP
This camp is for the younger children (aged 2-7) who are on the lead rein or just off the lead rein and still require some assistance. They attend camp for two days. It is non-residential for both ponies and children. The children do lots of riding with instructors and learn all about pony care. It is held at Lodge Farm Felmingham near North Walsham hosted by the Papworth family
Intro Camp 2025 – Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th August
JUNIOR CAMP
For children aged 8-11. They must be off the lead rein and in control in wide open spaces. It is advised that the younger children attending, should have attended an introductory camp prior to coming to Junior camp and that they should know how to muck out and care for their pony themselves. It is important that ponies are fit as they work hard over camp.Junior Camp is run over 3 days. The ponies stay on site in temporary stabling whilst the children go home each night and arrive around 8.30am each morning ready for a fun filled day of riding and activities. Stable Managers ensure your children and ponies are supervised and well cared for.The children ride each morning and each afternoon usually for between 3-4 hours in total, so it is important that both pony and rider arrive at camp fit and healthy and ready to go!It is definitely the highlight of the year for all those budding equestrian enthusiasts –whether it is cross country or dressage, the emphasis is always on fun, whilst learning new skills and adding to their knowledge about caring for their own ponies. On the final day, there is a prize giving to which everyone is warmly invited to attend, with all children returning home exhausted, but with at least one rosette and many happy memories!
Junior Camp is held at Wickmere hosted by Phillida Hurn and Tina Hayward
Junior Camp 2025 – Ponies arrive evening of 22 July and camp runs 23,24,25 July
SENIOR CAMP
For children aged 12+. Senior camp is run over 5 days and nights with both ponies and children staying overnight for the duration. The children bring their own accommodation; a mixture of tents, caravans, horseboxes and trailers. They share with friends and we are able to help find your child someone to share with if they are new to the Pony Club or don’t know many people. Our fantastic catering helpers prepare all meals on site; breakfast, lunch and supper for the children and instructors. There are adults on site 24 hours a day to ensure the safety of your child, with night watchman staying up through the night. In return, as well as having great fun, we do expect children to respect camp rules to ensure everyone’s enjoyment and safety. The children take full responsibility for all pony care and do lots of riding every morning and afternoon – dressage, show jumping, XC. It is a long and exhausting week, evenings are fun filled as well as being educational. Parents are required to come and help during the week, which also gives you a great opportunity to see how your child and pony is getting on. All parents are welcome to come along and watch the children ride on the Friday and then attend prize giving before taking their children home.We do ask parents to help out during the week with numerous tasks, we just couldn’t run a successful camp without the help from LOTS of parents as everyone running senior camp is a volunteer.
Senior Camp is held a Blackwater Farm and the main camp organisers are Helen Mutimer and Sue Crafer
