About Oakley Hunt West Pony Club

The Oakley Hunt Pony Club was originally formed in 1931. In 1981 the Branch split becoming Oakley Hunt (West) Branch of the Pony Club and Kim Valley Pony Club which, after a short period of time, then became Oakley Hunt North Branch of the Pony Club

Oakley Hunt (West) Pony Club welcome new Members of all ages, between    3 yrs. up to 25 yrs of age, and of any experience, who live in the OHW area, have the love of ponies, and who would like to make friends with others with the same interests. Our current Membership is in the mid 70’s.

If you are interested please contact the DC (District Commissioner) Wendy Barnes to have a chat and to arrange for you to come and watch a Mounted Rally, training session or just come on foot to an Achievement Badge training day to meet some of our Members, Coaches and organisers, after which I am sure you will soon become one of the Oakley Family.

We are a very active Branch, with many Mounted Rallies, for all ages and capabilities throughout the year, ranging from Fancy Dress fun rallies, to more serious stuff   – Show Jumping, Dressage, Eventing, Tetrathlon and of course Prince Philip Mounted Games.

We encourage Members to represent the Branch individually and in teams in all disciplines whether it be   X pole jumping, walk/trot dressage to Grassroots Novice, intermediate and Open Championship level and beyond. We also have a very strong Prince Philip Cup Mounted Games squad, who for many years have qualified for the Horse of the Year show winning the coveted trophy 9 times.

The high light of the year is the week long annual residential camp, which for the past 30 years has been held at the DC’s farm. Although in 2020 there was no residential, but we were able to have 3 smaller ‘camps’ (keeping to strict Covid-19 guidelines) for the Juniors, Intermediates and Seniors, which were attended by a total of 49 Members.

We encourage Members to train and take the relevant efficiency Tests for their age group. Also to train and achieve many of the Achievement badges both in equine and non equine subjects.

Once you are a Member don’t forget to join our Facebook Group, it is closed group just for current Members, their parents and Coaches. It is a great place to safely find out what’s happening, post pictures and keep in touch with other Members.

Our Aim

The aim of the Oakley Hunt (West) is to encourage young people to ride and learn to enjoy all kinds of sport connected with horses and ponies. The Club provides instruction in riding and horsemanship while instilling the proper way to care for ponies. Members are encouraged to improve their knowledge by working towards certificates awarded by The Pony Club. As a branch we feel it is important that the ideals of sportmanship, citizenship and loyalty are promoted.
