OBH North Committee Members and their roles:

The branch is run by a group of volunteers, we meet regularly to agree, plan and deliver a programme of rallies, training, competitions, socials and Summer camp.  We are always very grateful for ANY assistance from members and parents.  This includes supporting the running of our competitions, first aiding at rallies, camp set up and clear up.  At busy times we often need help and really appreciates any time you can spare to help the branch be as active as possible.  Please get in touch with us if you have any queries or ideas. If you prefer to send an email use the branch address; and your email will be forwarded onto the relevant person.

Joint District Commissioner, Health & Safety & Chief Instructor – Catherine Cawdron

From the age of 6-21 I was an active member of the OBH North branch competing in Area Teams and gaining my PC A Test. I started teaching for the Branch at Daily camp in my late teens before then going to work for Jeanette Brakewell and grooming at both Sydney and Athens Olympics as well as numerous Badminton’s and British Team Championships. Over  the next few years I trained for my BHS exams and in 2011 became a qualified BHSI-Performance Coach. This has opened many doors for me in coaching and assessing. I sit on the PCUK Training committee and am responsible for the A Test. As Chief Instructor I  encourage our members to take part in all aspects of training within the Branch, I thoroughly enjoy helping the members achieve their goals both in their riding and care of their 4 legged friends. In 2018 I joined Sue Palmer-Shaw in becoming joint DC. I am very passionate about our Branch and am excited to see what the future brings for its members and our club.  I have a little boy, Edward, who one day I’m sure will be a member.

Sue Palmer-Shaw (the one eating pizza) – Joint District Commissioner & Supporting Manager across disciplines

I have loved being involved with the pony club for many years with my 2 children, Jake & Holly who both started as soon as they were old enough to ride.  Holly has pursued her passion for Eventing and she now competes at Novice level on her horse Alfie.  Jake no longer rides but does enjoy being a member so that he can continue with the Triathlon training and competitions. As a family we have all enjoyed many years  of Pony Club life, made some fantastic friendships and have lots of fond memories.  I joined the committee a few years ago organising the test training and as the Show Jumping Manager &  I became the Joint DC with Catherine Cawdron in 2018. We have a wonderful club and are lucky to have such a proactive team supporting us to provide a range of activities for our members.

Sarah Molony Club Secretary, Dressage & Eventing Manager

I have been a member of the OBH North committee since 2014, initially taking on the role of Dressage Manager, which involves organising dressage rallies and training, running the annual dressage show and co-ordinating the dressage teams for both Areas and Regionals. In 2018 I took on the role of club Secretary alongside my dressage responsibilities.  My son Jake is an active member of OBH North and has been a member for about 11 years.

Jill Hickman – Welfare & Safeguarding Officer

I have been linked to OBH North Pony Club for over 18 years, as a parent, discipline manager and committee member. My current role is to support our hard working committee members by volunteering at Club events and  training our members to ride their ponies safely on the road. As an official I work with Catherine Cawdron as your Member Welfare Officer, to ensure that our volunteers and coaches are aware of the duty of care towards members and that we follow and implement the guidance outlined in the Pony Club Safeguarding Policy.

As the point of contact regarding Safeguarding, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Helen Mooney – Rally Manager

My daughter May joined OBH North in 2016 with her first pony and has enjoyed all aspects of Pony Club ever since! My son Will is non horsey, however, he likes to represent the Branch competing in triathlons and has some lovely pony club friends as well! I organise the Pony Club rallies, and put together a varied and exciting programme of events, catering for all ages and abilities.

Helen Parry – Treasurer & Show Jumping Manager

I have been on the committee for the last 6 years and have 3 daughters in the pony club who have been members for the over 10 years. I have been the branch Treasurer for 6 years and am a Chartered Accountant. I have recently taken on the role as Show Jumping Manager.

Christine Hern (left) –  Mounted Games Manager

Although I had been a member of OBH North as a child, I didn’t get involved in games until 1999 when my brother attended his first games rally. Mounted games has taken my family literally all over the world; Sweden, Oslo, Kentucky, Belfast, Canada and to prestigious shows like Olympia and the Windsor horse show. In 2012 I even managed to get an OBH North team to HOYS. My son James 12 and Daughter Becky 8 both love pony club. It’s no surprise that they both compete in games, but they also love tetrathlon, camp and general PC life. I too love all things pony club, and I’m honoured to be part of a such a hardworking, friendly committee. I would dearly love to get another team to HOYS, but in the meantime my main aim is to make games fun and accessible to all, I therefore look forward to seeing you all at training soon.

Holly Arnott – Tetrathlon Manager

I have two children in the club, Grace age 12 and Robert age 9. Grace fell in love with tetrathlon (running, shooting, riding and swimming) soon after joining the club, and as a result of her infectious passion I have found myself team manager! We all really enjoy the training, competitions, but most of all wonderful team spirit of this discipline. Grace and Robert both love every aspect of PC; the friendships, rallies, badges, test training and best of all the fantastic yearly camp. We are so lucky to be part of such a great club, and I was excited to be invited onto the committee at the end of 2020.

Holly Butcher – Eventing Manager with Sarah Molony & Badges

I have 2 daughters in the pony club and enjoy all the activities that pony club brings, particularly tetrathlon. I’m organising badges sessions so will be busy working alongside instructors to ensure our members learn a wide range of pony related knowledge to support their riding.  I will also be managing Eventing and very much look forward to seeing our members out and about Eventing representing our club.
