Welcome to the Portman Pony Club

The Portman is a thriving Pony Club in North Dorset with more than 90 members. We have lots of rallies for all levels of rider – from little ones on the lead rein to those aiming for teams in various disciplines. And a great base of friendly high calibre instructors.  We are lucky to have fantastic local venues and host camps every year which are full to bursting. It’s just a great place for children to learn how to ride and care for their ponies, make like-minded friends and have fun.

Our Pony Club was established in 1931 and is part of Area 14 which consists of 20 other branches and covers Wessex (Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire and Berkshire, Somerset including Bristol and the Channel Islands). We are based around Blandford, stretching from Gillingham and Shaftesbury in the north to Wimborne in the south and from Cranborne in the east to Milton Abbas in the West. Members are always made to feel welcome.

We try to cater for all ages and abilities and provide a full programme of activities throughout the year including mounted and dismounted rallies, specialised training clinics, social events and competitions. Members are instructed in small groups of similar ability.

The highlights of the year are the very popular Summer Camps catering for minis, juniors (6-10 year olds) and seniors (11 years and above). All members are encouraged to aim for various Pony Club tests and badges as well as our very successful Inter-Branch and Area Teams.

Our branch is run by committee of members’ parents and we are entirely dependent on volunteers, so your support is needed for the successful running of the club.
