Puckeridge Hunt Western Branch established in 1946 and is one of 22 Pony Club branches in Area 8, covering Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and East Hertfordshire.
We pride ourselves on being a fun, friendly and inclusive club. Everyone’s pony club journey is different and it is important to our club that we recognise this and support you all, whether you are wanting to be out competing every weekend or prefer to be developing your partnership with your pony without that pressure.
New members are warmly welcomed. We recommend you join us for a free taster rally before completing your membership application. Please contact Sue or Emma to arrange.
We hold most of our regular rallies at Bramfield, Luffenhall, Chesfield, Shuttleworth and Gravenhurst. All these locations are easy to access from the A1M, although Gravenhurst is the most westerly.
Summer rallies are held at Luffenhall or Bramfield. They are typically half a day, or sometimes a full day with a lunch break, but will always include two ridden sessions and, if time allows, a horse and pony care session as well. At rallies, members will be split into groups of 4 to 6, with friends of similar age and ability.
Winter rallies take place at different equestrian venues, mostly indoor and on a surface. Because of arena hire and parking restrictions, we give members a timed, group session, communicated via email about a week in advance.
The highlight for many Pony Club member is camp!
PWPC offers two camps a year: Junior Camp for members 10 years and younger and Main Camp for members 10 years and older and who are capable of looking after their own pony.
Main Camp is a residential camp, with ponies and members staying away from home for four or five days. As well as being an intensive training period in ridden activities and horse and pony care instruction, it is huge fun and members leave exhilarated, exhausted and enthused!
Junior Camp is non-residential but no less intense! With a packed-full programme of riding, learning and games. Typically held in the familiar surroundings of Bramfield, our younger members’ confidence can be nurtured and developed.
When demand requires, we organise 2-day camps for our older members, looking to receive some intensive training.
We are always proud to present teams to Area events and interbranch friendlies, mostly in show jumping, eventing, dressage and tetrathlon and hope that many of our members will have an opportunity to represent the club at some point, if that is something they are keen to do.
PWPC is part of Area 8, covering East Anglia. Each year we send teams and individuals to compete at Regional and Area qualifiers to hopefully secure a place at the Regional or National Champs, taking place in the summer and the Spring Festival, which takes place late February. Zoe Brown is PWPC Team Manager and during the spring, she will invite members to register their interest for being considered for the teams.
We also have lots of fun taking part in interbranch competitions. These include show jumping, Tet and Riding and Pony Care and are a really fun way to spend time with friends.
