Members benefit hugely from XC course

We are so fortunate as a club to have the use of the Scotsburn XC course.  It has taken a lot of hard work and a lot of time and effort from Alan Munro & his dad Leslie Munro in putting new, smaller jumps in place in the “nursery” field as well as various members, parents and grandparents in painting jumps.  We are very grateful to Lifescan Scotland & Tesco for the grants given to get this course back up and running and to Ravenhill Groundcare for the tractor & mower which has transformed the course into fabulous take off and landing areas around the jumps as well as tracks between.

The course is fully inclusive and we see members as young as 5 enjoying splashing about in the water and jumping our 30cm jumps within the nursery field.  They are the future eventers so we think it is important to give them a positive start in their eventing experience and what better way than to go out an play on the course with their pony club friends under the supervision of our great coaches.

Our members have become more confident and enjoy going out onto the course now where last year, some were a bit nervous having never really done much xc training.  The hard work and time and effort spent getting the course ready has been worth it just through seeing their faces and hearing them chat about the fun they have had.

We have monthly hire days where the course is open to everyone.  This has proven to be popular with both adults and children and we have had some members from other Pony Clubs take advantage of the training and come and join us for the day.  The benefit of the training days are that you are in a group of others with similar jumping ability and you go out with a coach that supports you round the course together.  The smiles every time a group come back is brilliant to see.

If you want to book on to our next session, you can find availability here.

Training days are open to everyone, you don’t have to be a member and we look to put you in groups with others of a similar ability.  If you are nervous, maybe not yet jumping too high or if you have a younger horse, the nursery field is brilliant to start you off.  Jumps start at 30cm and go up to 1m and the water jump is great for getting confidence splashing in and out of it.
