Ross-shire teams have a great time at National Quiz Finals at Loughborough
Ross-shire mini team and junior team both qualified this year for the quiz finals. This is the 3rd year in a row that Ross-shire have qualified and made the trip south. To say we are proud of them is an understatement, they all studied so hard and worked so well in their teams to achieve the results they achieved.
Our mini team was made up of Isabella Hailes, Eilidh Dalgetty, Ianna Grant & Logan Whitby. Teams have to be made up of 3-4 members under the age of 10 with one member being aged 8 or under. Logan is a non ridden member who has competed now in Quiz for the past couple years as well as the Horse & Pony Care Competitions. Ianna and Eilidh are both 10 years old and Bella is 9.
They had the best fun away for the wknd and have worked really hard in learning the subjects for the quiz. The friendships built through pony club lasts for years and this 4 certainly built strong friendships. Congratulations to our Minis, they came 21st out of 37 teams which is amazing for such a small club like ours. They fought off strong competition to qualify and we were so proud of their achievements.
Our Ross-shire Rockets were in the Junior section. The team was made up of Mckenna Westwood Stewart, Sophie Whitby, Edie Beatty and Jack Whitby. Jack had unfortunately had a fall from his pony before the event and ended up on crutches but that didn’t stop him bobbing around with speed!
The Junior/senior competition is made up of 11-25 yr olds and this team is a young team with Jack & Edie being 11, Sophie 13 and Mckenna 16. Competing against older members who have sat much higher tests than our members. Jack has his E test being relatively new to riding, Edie has her D+ test, Sophie & McKenna both have their C tests. As part of quiz training, they learned the colours of felts worn for different tests so it was good for them to recognise on the day that some of those they were competing against were B+, AH test holders.
Young they might be but they still done themselves proud coming a fabulous 24th out of 36 teams. Getting to the National quiz finals is an amazing achievement in itself and I often admire them for the success of achieving this 3 consecutive years.
To have 8 members representing a club with only 34 members in it is a huge success and testament to the hard work and team spirit that can be seen in our small club. We are very fortunate to have some fantastic coaches who work with the kids all year at rallies and camps but the credit through the winter is down to the members dedication. They log in every week for online training as well as then meeting up in person at wknds to train together. I am immensly proud of their achievements and I had the best weekend away with them all. Congratulations team Ross-shire.
