We hold full day rallies during the spring and summer at Thoresby and Cross Country rallies at other locations. In the winter we hold mounted one hour tuition rallies at various locations to suit all ages in ‘like’ ability groups, including lead rein.

Our Chief Instructor, Ruth Hall, puts together the programme of Badge and Test training which enables our members to excel at horse and pony care and equitation utilising the Pony Club roadmap: Mini badges (for our youngest members), Achievement Badges (for older members), Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum Badges; all of which are stepping stones to the various formal Pony Club Tests E to A.

Our annual Pony Club camp (week long and mini camp 4 days) is held during the summer holidays.

Today the youngest member is aged 2 years and the oldest is 24 and many of our older members and former members have undertaken coaching courses and now instruct at rallies and camp.

Rufford members compete in Pony Club Show Jumping, Dressage, Eventing, Mounted Games, Tetrathlon and Triathlon competitions and represent our Branch at Area and Championship level in these disciplines.

There are a number of members who compete in British Showjumping competitions; British Eventing (regularly part of the very successful under 18 squad) and British Dressage.  Some of our members are key members of their respective school teams also competing locally and nationally in the NSEA competitions.  Specialist training sessions in all disciplines are held during the year utilising the facilities and services of the best instructors and coaches in the district.

We usually run an annual Picnic Ride or Endurance Ride of varying lengths for our members, occasionally we run a Beach Ride and sometimes we have a Musical Ride Team.

A number of our former and current members are achieving great success in a number of equestrian fields: Eventing, Showjumping, Racing, Horse Dentistry, Master Saddlers, Equine Physiotherapy, Livery yard ownership and management, Breeding, Pony Club Instructors – the list is endless!

We have a strong reputation for running quality events and every year we host an Interbranch/centre Individual and Team Showjumping Competition in addition to our Interbranch/centre Individual and Team Dressage Competition.  In 2021 we ran our first, and very successful, Triathlon and Biathlon Competition which will now become an annual event.

We are blessed with a fantastic committee who all volunteer their valuable non-working time in bringing a full programme to the members of the Rufford.  They are ably supported by a large contingent of parents who also give up their time freely and we actively encourage them to get involved with the activities in the Branch ensuring that their children have great Pony Club memories.
