In 2024 the Vaccination rules changed – please read as there are some notable changes for any pony starting the vaccination process from 1/1/24 onwards – The Pony Club Equine Influenza VACCINATION RULE 2024

To ensure the health and biosecurity of all horses and ponies, the following vaccination rules apply to all Pony Club activities:
  1. Passport and Vaccination Records
  • Valid passport and vaccination records must accompany your horse/pony to all events
  • These documents must be available for inspection event officials and produced on request
2.  Equine Influenza Vaccination Schedule
No horse / pony may attend an activity, compete or be present as a companion unless it has a Record of Vaccination against equine influenza completed by the veterinary surgeon who gave the vaccination, signed and stamped line by line.
All horses and ponies receiving a new primary course of vaccinations must be vaccinated according to this schedule:
  • Primary vaccination: 2 vaccinations must be given within 21-60 days of each other. The horse/pony may attend activities 7 days after the 2nd vaccination
  • First booster: must be administered within 120-180 days of the second primary vaccination
  • Subsequent boosters: administered within every 365 days
  • Horses and ponies must not attend events within 7 days of vaccination, including the day of the injection and the following 6 days
For regular competitors and those travelling internationally, it’s recommended to follow the optimal vaccination schedule, with a booster administered 6 months +21 days before an event, in line with FEI protocols.
3.  Restart Vaccinations
  • If vaccinations are not up-to-date (e.g., missed boosters), the horse must restart the vaccination schedule and observe the 7-day post-vaccine stand-down period before entering any Pony Club activity

For ponies who started their vaccination process in prior to 1 January 2024 follow these rules – Passport and Vaccination Rules 2023

It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure that vaccinations are kept up to date.  Members will not be allowed to compete at any Pony Club events or attend rallies without a valid up to date vaccination record and passport.

Committee need to see an update of your pony’s vaccinations – please send Mandy a photo of the relevant passport page.

Please ensure that your horse or pony has up to date Vaccinations and remember your passport should always travel with your pony, especially to PC competitions.

The following rules will apply to all Pony Club Competitions:

Passports

A valid passport and vaccination record:

  • must accompany the horse/pony to all events
  • must be available for inspection by the event officials
  • must be produced on request at any other time during the event

No horse/pony may compete (or be present at the event as a companion) unless it has a Record of Vaccination against equine influenza completed by the veterinary surgeon who gave the vaccination, signed and stamped line by line, which complies with the Minimum Vaccination Requirements.

EVH 1
PC advice is that organizers must prevent horses from being presented for admission to a gathering in the following circumstances:

  • Any horse with recent cough or nasal discharge of unknown cause,  enlarged lymph nodes or fever.
  • Any horse which is known or under investigation for EHV infection (whether associated with respiratory or neurological signs).
  • Any horse which has been in contact with, or lives on the same premises as, a horse known or under investigation for EHV associated with neurological signs.
  • Where a horse has been excluded due to neurological EHV or neurological EHV-contact, future admission should require that:
    • EITHER all horses on the property have close clinical monitoring with twice-daily temperature recording and the excluded status should apply until all horses on the premises have been free of clinical signs for at least 28 days.
    • OR a detailed veterinary report should be presented to the Pony Club Veterinarian Advisor including robust laboratory evidence to show that the horse intended for admission to a gathering has not been infected with neurological EHV
