Summer Camp is at Castle Irvine, Necarne from Monday 6<\/span><\/b>th<\/span><\/b> \u2013 Wednesday 8<\/span><\/b>th<\/span><\/b>\u00a0July\u00a02026<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Camp is about having fun, friendship and making memories that will last a lifetime.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dates and Timings<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Camp will run from Monday 6<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0Wednesday\u00a08<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0July.\u00a0\u00a0Members and their ponies arrive\u00a0between\u00a08 and 8.30am on\u00a0the first day.\u00a0\u00a0For the rest of the camp\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Lead Rein\u00a0arrive\u00a0at 8.30am and Juniors arrive\u00a0by 8.15am\u00a0to\u00a0complete their yard duties\u00a0and feed ponies.\u00a0 Seniors staying onsite will feed ponies at night and give hard feed in the mornings.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A full programme of events is planned, incorporating plenty of fun events alongside stable management sessions and riding. \u00a0We also have evening activities. \u00a0Full\u00a0timetable details\u00a0and ride groups\u00a0will be sent out before camp.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Riders\u00a0\u2013\u00a0please\u00a0be punctual for all rides and\u00a0stable management\u00a0\u2013 ponies should be fully\u00a0groomed\u00a0and riders well turned out each day.\u00a0\u00a0On the final day we ask that riders\u00a0wear show gear.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Stabling<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Stables will be pre-allocated.\u00a0\u00a0We will be using the barn stables\u00a0and\u00a0possibly some\u00a0ponies in the courtyard.\u00a0\u00a0Initial bedding will be\u00a0provided,\u00a0you will\u00a0probably need\u00a0to bring more.\u00a0\u00a0For any member who would like to lay a\u00a0complete\u00a0new bed, please let organisers know so we can inform Castle Irvine.\u00a0\u00a0Members need to supply their own hay\/haylage and hard feed.\u00a0\u00a0There will be a\u00a0stable\u00a0allocated\u00a0for this.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of yard management,\u00a0members\u00a0are responsible for\u00a0looking after their pony during\u00a0camp\u00a0–\u00a0mucking\u00a0out, feeding, watering,\u00a0grooming,\u00a0etc.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Instructors will supervise all rides.\u00a0\u00a0For\u00a0lead rein\u00a0group parents can\u00a0assist, all other rides to work\u00a0independently.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Members will feed their ponies before leaving\u00a0camp\u00a0each day\u00a0and leave out hard feed for morning and extra hay\/haylege.\u00a0\u00a0The\u00a0seniors staying onsite will\u00a0check\u00a0ponies\u00a0and \u201cthrow in\u201d extra hay\/haylage about 8pm\u00a0each\u00a0evening.\u00a0\u00a0Ponies will be given hay\/haylage each morning\u00a0and hard food\u00a0(this is to be left ready the night before\u00a0outside your pony\u2019s stable).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

End of camp – i<\/span><\/i>t is the responsibility of each parent to ensure that their\u00a0child\u2019s\u00a0stable is left clean and tidy at the end of camp.\u00a0\u00a0Wet bedding\u00a0must\u00a0be\u00a0removed\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0remainder\u00a0of\u00a0bedding banked up against the walls\u00a0and the floor brushed\u00a0to allow the floor to dry.\u00a0\u00a0The Branch will be fined for any stable left in a dirty condition, and\u00a0the fine will be passed on to the member concerned.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Safety<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

NO DOGS AT CAMP<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Please sign your child\u00a0in and out of\u00a0camp each\u00a0day on\u00a0the register\u00a0on the noticeboard in the barn.\u00a0\u00a0Please\u00a0inform the committee member on duty\u00a0in the yard\u00a0that your child has arrived.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All riding hats must be correctly tagged (with the\u00a0pink\u00a0tag).\u00a0\u00a0Please speak to\u00a0a committee member\u00a0before camp if you need a hat tagged.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When in the stable every member\u00a0<\/span>MUST<\/span><\/b>\u00a0wear their helmet and\u00a0appropriate footwear,\u00a0ie\u00a0jod\/paddock boots – sliders, trainers, soft shoes are not allowed.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Skull\u00a0hats\u00a0and body protectors\u00a0MUST be worn for cross country.\u00a0\u00a0Riding hats with a fixed peak cannot be worn on the\u00a0cross-country\u00a0course.\u00a0\u00a0Body protectors should be Beta Level 3\u00a02018 blue\/black label\u00a0\u2013 details on our website.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Please check your\u00a0tack\u00a0is in good condition, especially\u00a0buckle areas,\u00a0stitching and\u00a0stirrup leathers.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Children should\u00a0wear gloves when\u00a0riding and riders with long hair should have it tied up securely\u00a0in a hairnet.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If your pony is\u00a0shod,\u00a0please\u00a0check the condition and,\u00a0if\u00a0necessary\u00a0have them reshod before camp.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We ask that\u00a0non pony\u00a0club\u00a0siblings\u00a0<\/span>do\u00a0not\u00a0<\/span><\/b>come\u00a0to camp.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The passageway must always be kept brushed and\u00a0clear,\u00a0there should be no\u00a0tack\/feed sitting in the passageway during the day for\u00a0safety\u00a0reasons.\u00a0\u00a0All\u00a0tack\u00a0will be stored in a locked room during camp and overnight.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Behaviour<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Members must follow\u00a0guidance\u00a0given by\u00a0instructors and\u00a0committee members\u00a0on duty\u00a0to ensure camp runs smoothly.\u00a0\u00a0The committee are volunteers who work\u00a0very hard, giving up their own time\u00a0to\u00a0help\u00a0camp to run. Given the age range\u00a0of members at camp,\u00a0please be aware we do not want any foul or abusive language, (from parents or older children) discrimination of any kind, or any violence towards animals or people. Any incidents of bullying, including cyber bullying, or fighting that come to our attention will be investigated by at least 2 committee members,\u00a0including our safeguarding officer. Any member behaving in an unacceptable or discourteous manner may be asked to leave.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Vaccinations<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Please ensure that your pony\u2019s vaccinations are up to date before camp, otherwise they cannot attend\u00a0–\u00a0<\/span>https:\/\/branches.pcuk.org\/seskinore\/passport-and-vaccination-rules-2024-onwards\/<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pocket money\/valuables<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Branch is not liable for any loss or damage incurred\u00a0to personal items.\u00a0\u00a0Mobile phones\u00a0are not\u00a0permitted\u00a0to be carried whilst mounted\u00a0and there is no secure place for storage, we would prefer they ARE NOT brought to camp.\u00a0\u00a0Pony Club are not liable for any theft or damage of mobile phones or communication devices. \u00a0Committee members will be available if children\/parents\u00a0need to\u00a0be\u00a0contacted\u00a0at any time.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Catering<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We ask that parents send a packed lunch for their child\u00a0each day (seniors\u00a0please\u00a0bring a packed lunch on the first day and then lunch will be provided\u00a0for the other days). \u00a0All other senior meals are provided.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tea\/coffee\u00a0will be available during the day in the\u00a0tack\u00a0room\u00a0for parent\u00a0helpers.\u00a0\u00a0We would be delighted if parents would send in\u00a0scones,\u00a0traybakes, cakes, etc\u00a0for snack for adults & children.\u00a0\u00a0We\u2019ll\u00a0arrange a rota for this.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Parents will be on a rota for\u00a0snack & lunch duty (including making\u00a0sandwiches for seniors\u00a0and washing up afterwards).\u00a0\u00a0We try to avoid times when your child is riding,\u00a0but this\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0always possible, so please ensure you are in the kitchen at the relevant times.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Each member to bring their own\u00a0named\u00a0water bottle, which they can refill at any time.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Welfare<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Camp is for your child to have a few\u00a0fun\u00a0days with their pony so they can improve their riding and learn more about stable management.\u00a0\u00a0Please ask your child to tell\u00a0Jenna\/Mandy or one of the instructors if they are unwell or unhappy.\u00a0\u00a0Please complete the attached\u00a0medical form\u00a0and return before camp.\u00a0\u00a0Please\u00a0ensure all\u00a0relevant\u00a0information is\u00a0included \u2013 these will be kept confidential.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Parents and Helpers<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Any parent staying on site during the day or overnight must have completed a Pony Club Access NI check \u2013 this is FOC. \u00a0Parents staying overnight should also complete the Pony Clu Safeguarding training. \u00a0We need 2\u00a0females and 1 male to stay each night please \u2013 if\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0available\u00a0please speak to Mandy or Jenna.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A parent or\u00a0responsible\u00a0adult must stay with members of the\u00a0lead rein\u00a0group\u00a0whilst they are on-site at camp.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

All members\u00a0are encouraged\u00a0to\u00a0become more\u00a0independent while working with their pony\u00a0at camp\u00a0(give parents some time off!!).\u00a0\u00a0Members are expected to tack up, groom, muck out and look after their own pony (although some\u00a0assistance\u00a0will be given where needed). \u00a0Our older members will be\u00a0on hand to help the younger members with tacking up, etc.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Parents\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0have to stay during the day, but if you\u00a0are\u00a0we ask that you help throughout the day\u00a0\u2013 there will be a\u00a0rota\u00a0of\u00a0various\u00a0jobs to keep camp running smoothly.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Please\u00a0<\/span><\/i>do not\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b>interrupt any lessons during camp\u00a0and only enter the arena if an instructor asks.\u00a0\u00a0At all other times parents must stand outside the arena.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Turnout and Inspection<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Inspection will be carried out each morning before the first ride.\u00a0\u00a0The instructor will check the cleanliness of the pony,\u00a0tack\u00a0and rider and award marks\u00a0– this is a traditional part of\u00a0camp.\u00a0\u00a0Members should wear\u00a0white\/beige\u00a0or black\/navy\u00a0jodhpurs,\u00a0long\u00a0boots\/short boots with chaps,\u00a0hat, white shirt and Pony Club tie, Pony Club Sweatshirt and Pony Club badge.\u00a0\u00a0All long hair should be\u00a0securely\u00a0tied back\/plaited to prevent it whipping round the face\u00a0and\u00a0in a\u00a0hairnet.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For inspection (and to get some extra marks<\/span>\ud83d\ude0a<\/span>)\u00a0most members wear a show jacket for inspection and then change into their sweatshirt\u00a0for riding.\u00a0\u00a0Anyone who wants to buy\u00a0a\u00a0Pony Club badge or tie, please let\u00a0Pauline\u00a0know.\u00a0\u00a0If you\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0have a show jacket,\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0worry,\u00a0maybe another\u00a0member has one for sale that is too small for their child\u00a0\u2013 just put a wanted\/for sale post on our\u00a0Whatsapp\u00a0group.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Secondary school age members\u00a0should\u00a0have\u00a0full\u00a0manes\u00a0plaited\u00a0(tails too if possible), as if presenting for\u00a0a\u00a0test.\u00a0Other\u00a0rides\u00a0should\u00a0have 3 plaits in each\u00a0day,\u00a0marks\u00a0are\u00a0awarded for effort\u00a0and\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0lovely to see an\u00a0improvement in plaits each day\u00a0\u2013 parents\u00a0can show how\u00a0to plait and\u00a0assist\u00a0but\u00a0should not be plaiting!!!\u00a0\u00a0Plaits\u00a0MUST\u00a0be removed each night for horse\u00a0welfare.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Stables\u00a0should be skipped out and the pony\u2019s hooves picked out\u00a0before they leave the stable\u00a0to avoid carrying bedding into the\u00a0passageway and\u00a0courtyard area. Instructors will be\u00a0monitoring\u00a0this too\u00a0and points could be taken off!!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Set up and\u00a0Tidy\u00a0up\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We ask parents to\u00a0help\u00a0with\u00a0setting up camp and\u00a0tidying up before everyone goes home.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We have use of the XC fences at\u00a0Castle Irvine, but\u00a0also need to bring some of our own smaller fences.\u00a0\u00a0If you\u00a0can\u00a0help us\u00a0transport the jumps to\u00a0Castle Irvine\u00a0on\u00a0Sunday\u00a05<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0July,\u00a0afternoon\u00a0time\u00a0and\/or collect again\u00a0Wednesday\u00a09<\/span>th<\/span>\u00a0July\u00a0afternoon,\u00a0please let us know.\u00a0 We also need \u201cmuscle\u201d to lift the XC jumps into\u00a0place\u00a0and this is easier with a good team.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Prizegiving<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On the last day of camp parents are invited to our Prizegiving at\u00a0approximately\u00a03.30pm.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After Prizegiving we ask parents\u00a0to please help tidy up when members are tidying\u00a0their\u00a0stables, etc.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Please discuss the relevant parts of this with your child.\u00a0\u00a0A lot of\u00a0hard work\u00a0goes into organising and running camp.\u00a0\u00a0What\u00a0members get out\u00a0of camp is a measure of what they are prepared to put\u00a0in.\u00a0\u00a0I trust that we can all work together to ensure that all campers have an enjoyable and educational time at camp this year.<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
