We offer dressage training for all ages within the branch. Rallies are run on a regular basis and we train for all levels whether you’re a beginner or an experience dressage rider.
Our rallies are grouped by riders’ abilities, allowing our instructors to give the best possible training and advice. We have a number of excellent dressage instructors including Melissa Dawes and Jo Webb, we also invite specialist trainers to help our members develop their skills.
Test riding practice is a very important part of our training. our members are taught how to ride specific movements from the Piny Club tests and are given opportunity to ride a practise test in front of a judge who gives constructive advice on how to improve their marks.
As you and your pony get better and your confidence grows you might want to take part in a competition. The Pony Club has a fabulous selection of competitions including the Spring Festival Dressage series which culminates in a Championships held in April at Arena UK, Lincolnshire. In the Summer there is also the Area 13m Dressage qualifier for the Regional (Preliminary PC70 and Grassroots PC80) and National (Novice, Intermediate and Open) Championships. For our younger members the Area 13 Mini Championships in September are a great chance to compete for the branch as an individual or part of a team.
Most Pony Club Dressage competitions are for teams as well as individuals so they are another opportunity to compete with your friends. Quite often at Pony Club shows there will be a Dressage class run alongside all the other events so you can really make the most of your outing and combine it with some jumping or showing.
Schedules for these and the qualifiers above can be found on the Area 13 Calendar
Pony Club competitions start at a low level with Walk and Trot tests so you certainly don’t have to be an expert to take part, and you don’t even need to worry if you think you might not be able to remember the test as someone can read it out loud to you (apart from at Area Competitions and the Championships).
The qualifiers and Championships mentioned above are subject to strict eligibility criteria so please do make sure that you read these very carefully in the Dressage Rule Book (found on the main Pony Club website) if you are hoping to represent the branch at Regional or Area level. Our teams and individuals will be selected strictly according to our Team Selection Policy.
Overall we hope that you and your pony have fun and learn together. If you are new to dressage or would just like to find out more about what’s involved, please contact our Dressage Discipline Head (see the Contact Us)
