In Show Jumping, horse and rider combinations are tested over a course of colourful obstacles which can easily be knocked down if they are hit. Intended to demonstrate the horse and rider’s courage, athletic ability, precision, speed and partnership, it is very popular discipline amongst Pony Club members. It can take place indoors as well as outdoors, making it perfect to enjoy all year round, and courses start at very tiny heights so even our very youngest members can get involved.

Most of our rallies involve some form of show jumping, even if it’s just one fence at a time, so that’s a great place to start. We also run Show Jumping training sessions for our members who are working up through the levels and might be hoping to represent the branch in competition. We use a variety of instructors for our younger members and are lucky to have access to several top level trainers for older members, including our fabulous lead coach Paul Crago, who is brilliant at working with them to help develop their course jumping techniques. Competing

There are a huge number of Pony Club show jumping competitions, starting very small, and many of them have classes for teams as well as individuals so it’s a great opportunity to compete alongside your Pony Club friends. Dates and schedules are available on the Area 13 Calendar and teams are co-ordinated by our Show Jumping Discipline Head (please see our Contact Us page) In July, Pony Club branches in Area 13 select teams and individuals to compete against each other at the Regional (PC70 and PC80) and Area (PC90, PC100 and PC110) Qualifiers. Successful competitors in the Regional class will go on to compete at the Regional Championships (against branches from Areas 9, 10 and 18) while teams and individuals qualifying through the Area level competition will have the opportunity to compete at the National Championships.

The qualifiers and Championships are subject to strict eligibility criteria so please do make sure that you read these very carefully in the Show jumping Rule Book (found on the main Pony Club wesbite) if you are hoping to represent the branch at Regional or Area level. Our teams and individuals will be selected strictly according to our Team Selection Policy.

For our younger members, the Area 13 Mini Championships (PC70) are usually held in September and again are for teams and individuals. You don’t have to qualify to compete so just let our Show Jumping Manager (see the Contact Us page) know if you are interested. They provide a wonderful opportunity for our younger members to represent the branch at an Area competition with their friends.
