About The South Devon Moorland Branch

Our branch was established in 1973 and is part of Area 16. With between 40 and 60 members at any time we offer something for everyone and pride ourselves on being friendly and welcoming. We offer fun activities and events which are enjoyed by all our members, whatever their age, ability or ambition.

As our name suggests we are a Moorland branch and cover the square between Bovey Tracey/Moretonhampstead/Postbridge/Buckfastleigh.

We hold regular rallies at Holwell Lawn during the spring, summer and autumn, taking advantage of our wonderful cross country courses and our field where we hold mounted games training, flatwork and poles, dressage arenas and showjumping.

During the winter we hold rallies at indoor venues like The Brook and Sigford Barn, or at Rora, Courtway, arena eventing training at Bicton and other venues.

We also hold dismounted rallies and badge days, road safety training, shooting and swimming practice for tetrathlons, and social events too.

We hold a mini-camp for our younger members during the summer holidays – normally camping over a weekend with our ponies at Holwell Lawn! We also hold a Summer Camp at Pontispool for our older members aged 10+ over three days which is a lot of fun and for many the highlight of their Pony Club year!

All rallies and events can be seen and booked on our booking system WebCollect – see the button below:

Regular rallies are held at which members do flatwork and poles, show jumping, dressage and cross country schooling on the mini-course or the main course

Our branch holds regular “jump club” evenings during the summer; a great way to have fun after school!

Our branch is fortunate in having two cross-country courses: a mini-course with jumps from 20cm to 50cm high including a train, a house, a snake, banks, ditches and tyres.

The main cross-country course has jumps ranging in height from 50 cm to over one metre for the more experienced members and includes a water jump with a crocodile and a boat, a sunken road, wagons, corners, pheasant feeders, walls – a huge variety of jumps in a spectacular setting with Houndtor and Haytor as a backdrop.
